Student discussions across Reddit, Quora, and YouTube describe Cornell as academically demanding and serious about coursework. Students often talk about the natural surroundings and the mix of people on campus, and many say professors are accessible, particularly in graduate programs. At the same time, Ithaca is frequently described as isolated, with long winters and limited transport, and the size of the university can feel difficult to manage without making an effort to stay socially involved.
First-year students often say the initial months are tough due to workload, weather, and adjustment to campus life, while seniors and alumni report a better experience over time. Career outcomes in areas such as engineering, business, architecture, and hospitality are commonly mentioned as a strong point. This overall student perception aligns with Collegedunia reviews, where Cornell has an overall rating of 7.7/10, with 9.1/10 for academics, faculty, and infrastructure, showing high academic satisfaction despite challenges related to location and day-to-day life.

Fees
- The fees charged are semester-wise; hostel is usually about $7000 for a semester, tuition is about $34,000, a dining hall meal plan is about $3000, health insurance is about $2000 and activity fees are about $200. My monthly expenses are around $75-100, which is spent mostly on food at restaurants around campus with friends or online shopping (I only go out 2-3 times in a month roughly). Overview
Program ranked in top 10 in the US. Ivy league school. Shorter duration of masters program. Best Engineering school in the Ivy league.
Campus Life
Campus life is decent, but since I planned to graduate in 1 year I did not explore all the options. There are various activities and events happening on campus regularly and if someone wants to engage in such activities you will find plenty of opportunities.
Overview
More credits/focus assigned to research. At least a third of the total credits for graduation were assigned for research which was my primary area of interest.
Campus Life
Good news for students is that there is Wifi everywhere. Many sports clubs are there with me myself being a part of the badminton team. Research infrastructure is too good particularly the DeFrees hydraulic laboratory where I have conducted experiments.
Overview
1. Small cohort 2. Brand name 3. One of the best program I wanted to pursue.
Campus Life
Cornell is an Ivy league and hence there are no doubts of sports facilities. There are ton of clubs to join. I am part of Cornell Cricket Club and at the same time was part of Cornell Graduate Consulting Club where I served a local client for revenue models and competitor analysis. Ton of extra curricular activities to choose as well.
Overview
Prestige and ranking(overall and department). It is an Ivy school and ranked in the top 10 in the US for my program.
Fees
$60000 is the program fee.
Overview
I ended up choosing Cornell mainly due to two Professors here (Jie Shan and Peter McMahon). Their research interests aligned really well with mine. Another, although minor, factor that affected my decision was the availability of many hiking trails in Ithaca. I really enjoy trekking and hiking, so that was a major plus.
Fees
The Ph.D program in physics costs a total of $75,000 per year (including the stipend, health insurance, etc.). The tuition alone is about $30,000. Although, almost no one ever pays for their doctorate education. You're almost always offered a fellowship, TAship, or RAship.
Overview
A great network to be able to be successful in the future, allows me to extensively train for the career I want. Has a good social climate to be able to enjoy myself when I need a break from the tough work.
Fees
They charge over $30,000 but provide very good financial aid. They help with tuition. Require expenses to be paid for.
Overview
It's the leading program in this field and I couldn't find it anywhere else. Very detailed and good instruction at Cornell's ILR School in Ithaca, NY about 4 hours from New York City. There are plenty of resources.
Fees
They charge a very large amount of money for tuition. The tuition is very expensive and perhaps unaffordable. They charge more money for tuition than most other schools, especially New York State schools.
