  • The courses are what they are; if you are thorough with your concepts, the courses are a piece pf cake but you will struggle if you are not ready to do the work and adapt. It is theoretical and practical both, but more on the practical side.
  • The positive aspect of the courses is that the courses are recorded and even if you miss a few classes, you can catch up with your peers easily. Typically you may have two to three classes, depending upon your registration for these courses classes are mostly in the mornings and in the afternoons. There are a lot of Indian students enrolled in the courses, depending upon the course.

Fees

  • My fees are as follows:
  • Tuition: $58870
  • Living expenses: $23310
  • Book and insurance: $3777
  • Total: $85957
  • This is an average for 1 year (Likely goes up). This was obviously for the 2023-24 year but the credit-wise fees change every year. And also the fee structure depends upon your degree and the school or college within the university. Your best bet is getting Graduate Student Instructor or Research Assistant Roles.

  • The curriculum was a lot driven with assignments that put you to work and engaged your brain quite a lot
  • Industry-focused curriculum but sometimes because the professors are directly someone who has worked in the industry and are extremely knowledgeable but not inherently teachers, could be a struggle to bridge that gap
  • It is unlikely you would get such personal support but for positions like research assistants, the professors could get involved
  • My system engineering professor is Art Hyde. Great personality, had been the chief engineer for the Ford Mustang, a poster car for all the automotive engineers

Fees

  • Sem1 was 27000 USD
  • Sem 2 was 29000 USD (The tuition went up by around 10%)
  • Sem 3 was 10000 USD
  • A total of 30 credits
  • Sem 1 and 2 I had taken 12 credits each ( 4 subjects and 3 per subject) Sem 3 was just 1 subject, I.e 3 credits and the last 3 credits were fulfilled by internship
  • The fee is charged per semester; above 9 credits per semester are charged the same, so 9, 12, 15, etc. credits will be the same full semester fees of ~30000 USD. Anything less than 9 credits will be charged per credit, 3300 per credit at the time of my graduation
  • Total monthly expenses could round up to 1000 USD easily, depending on if you choose to eat out a lot; that could be a lot higher

  • The courses are pretty intensive, mine being a research track focussed masters , so I had my classes along with PhD students . And grading is based on the class curve , which means based on class average you will be graded A, A-,B, which I personally don't like , like recently I scored 92/100 , but as the class average went to 94 , I will be graded B for that particular course exam .
  • The classes have a mixture of PPT presentations and chalk talk , which I personally like it and the exams are 24 hours take home exams , where code of conduct taken very very seriously. So this is kind of the positive aspect of the course , everyone's mark is original to themselves, no cheating at all.

Fees

  • $27,360/semester, the payment needs to be done through FLYWIRE, as UM prefers only Flywire way of Payment for Education Loans especially, it is charged in 2 installments per semester , but students also have the option of paying in 5 EMI installments of tuition fees per semester as well.
  • Additionally my monthly expenses comes upto $1000 , as my accommodation rent is around $600, UM health insurance charges monthly $250, and an extra $100 for grocery and other miscellaneous expenses.

  • It was a mix of theory and practical work.
  • We were paired up with a lot of organizations to solve their UX based problems.
  • There weren't a lot of Indian students in the course

Fees

  • It was 26,000 USD per semester (also paid semester-wise), based on the number of credits you take. So in the last semester, if you don't take a full-credit course load, then you have to pay less fess. Minimum of 9 credits and a maximum of 18 were required in one semester.
  • Total required credits for the whole course were 48 to graduate. So you can take extra credits and have lesser credits in the last semester and pay less tuition, or else graduate in 3 semesters (advised if you have a job offer).

  • I'd rate the course difficulty level as 8/10. The assignments are time consuming and huge. But they are both a mix of theoretical and practical learning which makes it interesting.
  • I feel most things about the curriculum is positive. We mostly have 2 classes in a day and it's upto 3-4hrs max. The timings differ from morning 9 to evening 8. The average number of students in my school is around 250 spanning across 4 departments.

Fees

  • My semester fee is around thirty thousand dollars. My monthly expenditures are not a lot since everything is mostly provided by the university. I only have to pay rent and utilities and personal expenses such as clothing, groceries sometimes, and restaurants.
  • The university is really good at hosting events, which gives us enough opportunities to get free food and other things. The transportation is also free for campus students.

The course curriculum is designed to help students learn basic concepts they can use in their professional lives. Both practical as well as academic insights are given for students so that a student is well prepared to go into academia as well as industry. In my course there's no industry experience but I did opt for research experience and continued a PhD in the same topic. Most of the Professors have had industry experience so they gave us valuable insights of the current practice in the field.

Fees

I completed my master's program in 1 year (i.e. 2 semesters). The tuition per semester was 28k USD so total tuition I paid was 56k USD. Generally, it takes 3 semesters to get a master's.
