The curriculum is one of a kind. It is very rare to find a syllabus so unique as well as relevant to the topics that need the most attention. The frequency and the timing of the exams are well spaced.

It follows through the history of English literature but doesn't stop there- it extends beyond the modern, feminism, queer movement, delves even into physics and metaphysics, history, philosophy. It is truly interdisciplinary, and not at all about how well one can speak English . However the syllabus sometimes seems packed with material, we have to prioritise which one to study for exam and which to skip. But each class is worth attending. The exams are not difficult if one is well versed with the material and regularly attends classes. In exams, there is no way to cheat even if there isnt any invigilator because the questions are completely based off of our understanding and knowledge gathered from the recommended material and background resources. Reading out of the curriculum is the way to survive in this department enrichingly.

The course curriculum varies for different semester. But the one thing that remains constant is that it gives special attengion to critical thinking and creative writing. We have to look at texts and writings from an analytical point of view which in turn increases our thinking skills. It enables us to learn about the writing formats of emails, term papers, abstracts which are very helpful for future academic pursuations. Although the curriculum is an almost perfect one, there is a serious lack of female autors and poets in our syllabus. As a department which actively promotes feminism and equality, more inclusive texts would much more welcomed. The exams conducted are not that frequent and are easy. This is because as a department we believe exams are not a sure way to evaluating our levels. It forces upon us a certain performance and strata of achievement. Many, under that pressure, fails to give their best. This way of thinking is much appreciated amongst us.

The subject i opted for is english literature. As someone from. Science background in my higher secondary i naturally found it difficult, as i wasn't aware of most of the history but the teaches and my fellow students were more than happy to help me.

Mich better compared to contemporary colleges. This course actually imparts relevant skills such as creative writing, quick comprehension which I believe is lacking in a lot of colleges. Exams are moderate to hard and focuses on the creative side. Memorization based questions are not to be expected and one has to think out side the box in order to score good marks.

Pursuing English honours here has been a dream come true. The professors are really well learned and it is a privilege to be taught by them. The level gets harder but with the right professors teaching the course seems to be fun.

English department of Jadavpur university is top class department in whole India and also in th world. girls: boys are about 1:3 Semester exams happen after 5 months of teaching. Professors of the department is awesome

The factors which made me to use this college is that the highwomen reputed teachers professor who guide the students in a very well manner so that they don't face any type of problem. Secondly because of the good transport system from that place towards my house.

The students are employable after they complete their masters. The placements likely take place in sociology department. As I am an English student I don't know about the package but I heard it is handsome. The average students getting placement is high. I want to go to research after getting the degree.

It's the best place to study English. The faculty is great. The library is fully equipped to help you in every way. There are no rules as such, you can let your creativity fly. The hours of college are v good and you can attend many seminars and conferences even after attending classes. The college itself organises many such seminars. These will help you to dwell more into the subject. If you love english, this place is for you.
