30 Oct, 2025 Outlook B-Schools Ranking 2026 has been released. IEM Kolkata secured the following positions:

IEM Kolkata is a private engineering and management institute established in 1989. It is affiliated with the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT). The institute is approved by AICTE and accredited by the NBA and ‘A' grade by the NAAC. IEM Kolkata is ranked in 151-200 band in India and 3rd in Kolkata for B.Tech.

Batch Size: 720 students (B.Tech) and 180 students (MBA).
Fees: The total fees is INR 8.65 lakhs for B.Tech CSE and INR 8 lakhs for MBA. For other UG programs, the total fees ranges from INR 3.7 lakhs - INR 8.65 lakhs (excluding the hostel and mess charges).

IEM is college well knowed for its method of study and placements.Famous companies such as TCS, Capgemini, Accenture, Tech Mahindra, etc hire employees from IEM. The Highest package went upto 1cr on campus placement and over 1.5cr in off campus placements. More 90% of students get placed at the end of 4th yr.

Campus internship opportunities in various organizations

The institute also has a dedicated placement cell that provides assistance to students in finding internships and placements. The placement cell conducts various training programs, workshops, and mock interviews to prepare the students for the placement process. The placement cell also invites top companies to the campus for conducting placement drives. Some of the companies that visit the campus for placements include Google, Adobe, Samsung, Cisco, Infosys, and Accenture, among others. The placement percentage of IEM Kolkata is usually high, with a majority of the students getting placed in top companies every year

Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

From today's scenerio, we can say that most of the available jobs are seen in IT sector. But I chose CSE because from a very young age I was attached to computer very closely and liked using it and knowing minute details about.In Cse, the average faculty : student ratio is 17:70 and all the teachers are quiet intelligent and sincere in their proffesion. Most of them are Phd holders and passouts from IITs or Jadavpur. The exams are taken after a regular interval and are easy if study right from the beggining.

Yearly fees structure of the course

For CSE, the total 4 yrs course costs near about 7.5 lakh, which I think is quiet normal. But I would say that the cost of study is quiet high as there are frequent requirements of study items and project items for college. For the first semester, the fees is 1lakh 10thousand and the remaining amount is divided as 85k per semester.

Various sports, events and infrastructure of the college

In IEM, a number of events take place within a month, so we have a busy schedule over there. We have hackathon, project making, debate, cricket, coding and various other compeitions every semester. We also have a AC library with wide range of books for peaceful self study. Classroms are well equipped with projector and speakers for a quality study. We also have 4 social clubs run by the students ,themselves.

What is the admission process of the campus?

Getting admission in IEM, Kolkata is very tough. You need to be very studious in studies, as the compeition is really high. Getting 98-99 percentile in JEE mains can give you a seat in IEM,While taking admission via WBJEE, you must have a rank less than 1000.Application forms are available both offline(IEM Ashram building) and online(in college website).

PRECIOUS JOURNEY AND EXPERIENCE OF GRADUATION IN IEM.

Dislikes

There is no break between classes that's why its very difficult for students.
Attendance system is very bad and daily 9 to 4.10 class very bad.
Put extra pressure in student is very bad. Extra task are given to student.

This college is westbengal number 1 private engineering college and education facility and placement is far better than other college that's why i choose this college.Through IEMJEE and WBJEE exam you can get admission in this college

My Wonderful yet a bit tiresome Undergrad life at IEM Kolkata

Dislikes

The presence of proper uniform like school students which was actually too much for Undergraduate students and they werent allowed in the campus if they enetered after 9.15am
The immense pressure for attendance (80% compulsory)

Admission:

I did applied for some other colleges but i didnt get CSE or IT there but their environment for students was also bad (like JU) so i always preferred IEM as i got my preferred stream too there. The admission process is very smooth with one day allocated for verification of identity and other documents like 10th and 12 th marksheet.

Admission:

I did go to techno and amity but after seeing how reputed IEM is the chose IEM over any college I didn't get rejected from any college You have to first register your name in the college website and then you have to give an exam which will be held in the college you will get a hall ticket for the exam you can choose the date to the exam available from the options. The exam you have to give is basic such as English maths history geo (but before registration and exam you need to have above or 70% per else they reject you in the start they are very strict about this)

What are some do's and dont's at IEM Kolkata ?

My sister graduated from IEM Kolkata in June 2016 and she is now working as a consultant at KPMG. She shared some of her experiences and the basic do’s and don'ts she followed while studying there.

IEM Kolkata is very strict with its college timings and the students have to be very punctual. She suggested that they must reach college before 9:10 AM as the morning assembly starts at that time. Or else they can enter the college only after lunch time which starts at 12:20 PM.
All the students must maintain attendance of minimum 80%. This is very important as students will be prohibited from giving exams with lower percentages of attendance.
The students should submit all their projects, assignments and reports to their respective professors on time to maintain a good image in the college. This can be very crucial while getting internal marks which increases the overall marks in final exams.
The students must be able to build a good relation with their professors. This can help a lot in the long term to get many information about higher studies and their recommendations helps a lot in deciding the right college or career for our future.

Maintaining good grades is very important because students with lower grades are considered not capable enough for placements in top popular companies. They can sit for placements at non IT companies though. Students with lower grades don't get good opportunities in the college so one must maintain above average grade in his/her subjects, to secure a placement or even opt for higher studies.

The top recruiting companies that participate in their placement program include, Google, Microsoft, Accenture, Capgemini, L&T, Wipro, TCS, Mindtree and many more.

I'm in my last semester of graduation the results come in August, am I eligible for the mba program now? if not, then when should I apply?

Yes, you are eligible to apply for an MBA course. Technically, you need to have completed your graduation, to get admission to an MBA degree. But students in their final year of graduation can appear in MBA entrance examinations. If you are able to score a decent percentile in the entrance, you will get a provisional admission. Your admission will be final, once you complete your graduation with the required aggregate marks. Your provisional admission will be finalized once your graduation results are declared and you submit the relevant proofs. So, if you have a valid MBA entrance score, you can apply for an MBA program.

IEM Kolkata offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Which lead to two primary degrees: B.Tech and M.Tech. IEM Kolkata offers B.Tech program in 11 different specialisations. Candidates seeking admission to the BTech program at IEM Kolkata must have valid score in the WBJEE/ IEMJEE/ JEE Mains and the seat allocation process will be done through the respective counselling.

IEM Kolkata also offers BCA, BBA, and MSc (Computer Science) through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by MAKAUT. Students can also choose to opt for the MBA program offered by this institute for 2 years. To be eligible for this program, candidates have to qualify for the CAT/ JEMAT exams, followed by a PI and GD round.
