- Hostel: The university provides accommodation facilities for both boys & girls. A total number of 13 hostels are there at the campus premises, 4 for girls & 9 for boys hostels with provision for accommodating over 1600 students. - Guest House: Jadavpur University has a guest house with 90 double bedrooms, 3 deluxe rooms, 2 single rooms, with all the required maintenance.
- Health Center: The University Health Centre is located on the campus. It is attended by a full-time Medical Superintendent and part-time qualified Specialists in General Medicine, Eye, E.N.T., Skin, Dental and Pathology and a part-time Lady Doctor. All the specialists visit the health center for two hours for three days a week and the Lady Doctor attends the center on all working days for three hours a day. The eligibility for this course is Graduation. A student needs to be a graduate student in any stream with Physical Education as a subject or having a Sports Certificate atleast of District level. The Admission Entrance Test is conducted every year for the Selection of 50 students, based on Theory exam and Physical performance. The admission process needs to be more specific and targeted towards Academic performance of the aspirants.

The admission into JU is through an all-India competitive examination WBJEE. the cutoff stays high for entry into JU through this exam. The seats are 90 percent reserved for West Bengal students and the rest 10 per cent are reserved for other state candidates. According to my opinion, I don't see any point of improvement in the admission process and it is absolutely clear and transparent via all india counselling processes.

- The flexibility and teaching style of professors. Whenever I had a doubt be it in course curriculum or related to extracurriculars, I would always find a professor by my side. Even if someone missed labs, he/she could do arrears for the missed lab.
- The strong friendship and bonding that the students shared among themselves.
Dislikes
- The course curriculum is more extensive than other colleges and GATE syllabus.

First eligibility is clear the WBJEE or JEE-MAINS and also be admitted from JELET exam. All the necessaries are given in the form of notice in the Jadavpur website. Exam timing are ok but difficulty level is somehow hard sometimes in case of some subjects. Admission process are ok.

To apply for this course you need minimum 60% with an entrance exam after the application which is held at the uni itself. Various help deals are set up right after the admission notice for guidance and help and even provide the previous year questions. The application form is available in the main university website and notice of the application dates are given out in the website too along with a notice in a local newspaper too. Reservation are given to ST,SC, OBC A and B, Sports quota, PWD etc from the state. Other states minorities and ST or OBCs or SC can't avail the reservation benefits. The website needs improvement as it crashes very often leading to problems during application.

I have got admission through counselling of WB JELET (West Bengal Joint Entrance For Lateral Entry into B.E/BTech). You can find the application in WBJEEB website. It's registration usually starts in December/January and exam dates usually in June. To get into JU through lateral entry you have to secure a rank under 150-200. To get in branches like CSE, IT, ETCE, IEE, EE you have to get a rank (gmr) under 50.

We had to give an entrance exam, and the final rank was based on our 12th percentage and the marks obtained in the entrance. My experience with admissions was very smooth the seniors and volunteers were very helpful. The application forms are released online and the entrance is held in the university. You do get reservations for ST, SC, OBC-A, OBC-B

- Seminars and International Exposure : It's common to have international seminars with professors coming from all over the world every month.
- Professors : Our professors are extremely knowledgeable and all of them come from very elite and diverse academic backgrounds. We have profs from Oxford and Cambridge University.

- Infrastructure is inadequate due to the lack of funding, not all classrooms are air conditioned so sometimes it is hard to attend classes in the summer.
- Due to the sheer size of the university communication is sometimes an issue. Oke needs to coordinate with the HoD, Dean and VC for all concerns which can get tiresome sometimes.
Admission:
Eligibility for the course is passing +2 exams with over 75% marks from any of the authorised boards in India. Application process is quite simple, one just needs to fill the application from online which is available on the JU official website. The admission test fees in Rs 100. The exam is quite competitive as over 4000 students compete for 75 seats. The exam mostly seeks to understand your overall grasp of the language and your ability to think out of the box. The application process is easy not very complex. One needs to rank within 2500 in the WBJEE to get chance in the department of food technology and biochemical engineering. There is no other way to get admission in engineering without giving WBJEE

Is Jadavpur University better than NIT Durgapur? If yes, which stream would be preferred?
Both the colleges have their pros and cons. Your choice of college should be based on branch. I did my Mechanical from NIT Durgapur and my friend did his Mechanical from Jadavpur University. I am eligible to answer this question.
First of all, JU is much higher in ranking than NIT Durgapur. Also, the fees at JU are way more affordable. As JU is located in Kolkata, IT companies visit the campus more often. As far as core courses are concerned, the faculty for ME especially, is good at both the colleges. But core placements are much better at NIT Durgapur because PSUs visit the campus. On the other hand, JU students have to sit for GATE.
If you wish to study CS, IT or ECE, choose Jadavpur University without second thought. As far as core jobs are concerned, choose NIT Durgapur.
Is Jadavpur University good?
One of my friends studied at Jadavpur University. According to him, it is a really good institution and is considered among the tier-1 universities in India.
From Academics to extracurricular activities, JU is outstanding. The reason was that here you are studying engineering in the real sense .

- There are a complete range of laboratories dedicated to each course.
- Many students of NITs have also said that the teaching method in JU is really good.
- Apart from studies, various clubs and sports facilities enhance your personality as well. They are known to provide quality education at a very reasonable amount.
- Fee structure is really low and affordable for almost every student.
- They have a strong alumni network.
It is suggested that you do not get disheartened, if you do not get into the top IITs or NITs. Because JU guarantees providing the best education and opportunities both for jobs and higher studies.
Which is better between IIT Patna and Jadavpur University for an equivalent branch?
I have seen many students prefer JU to new IITs because of the experience and legacy it holds in contrast to recently established IITs. None of these students regret their decision of choosing JU over IIT.
JU has the upper hand in terms of both placements and the quality of research work here. In fact, top NITs, BITS, JU, DTU, NSIT, IIITs, and such institutes are all better options than most of the newer IITs. These institutes have good credibility owing to their strong alumni network thus providing better opportunities. Those who prefer to stay on the safe side give more preference to these institutes than newer IITs.
The new IITs are expected to reach heights in the future and only then will you be able to benefit from their IIT tag. As of now, they lack credibility and opportunities.
Ultimately, it’s your call to make because you can even avail the best opportunities through minimal resources.

No, IIT Bhubaneswar ECE is not better than JU CSE. According to NIRF India Engineering ranking for 2019 JU ranked 13, whereas IIT Bhubaneswar was at 17.
JU may have its own problems but it still remains a university with a great reputation especially for CSE. Almost all big known companies visit the campus for placement for CSE. According to 2019 placement records, the CSE department of JU has some unbeatable records with 90% of the students getting placed. The average salary package offered was INR 12 LPA and may go as high as INR 40 LPA. Major recruiters of CSE department of JU(2019)- Amazon, Microsoft, Paypermint D.E.Shaw, Wipro Turbo, Samsung (Bangalore, Noida, Delhi), Goldman Sachs, Adobe, Synopsys, Work Applications (Singapore), SAP Labs, C-DOT, Siemens, Oracle, Reliance, PriceWaterhouse Cooper, G.E.Digital, Reve System, Dynamic Digital Technology, MU Sigma and many more.
Since IIT Bhubaneswar ECE started in 2016 and the students will graduate in 2020. Although the placement record for other branches is good, around 10 LPA for Electrical Engineering.
IIT Bhubaneswar may provide more exposure and a shiny IIT tag but between IIT Bhubaneswar ECE and JU CSE, JU CSE will be the better choice.
