Considering the fees and return on investment, Jadavpur University for BE Computer Science and Engineering stands out due to its higher average package of 10-12 lakhs and a maximum package of 1.2 crores, especially since the course costs less than the 2.19 lakhs per year at DTU for B.Tech Civil Engineering. While DTU offers good internships and placements with a decent starting salary in civil engineering, the overall financial benefit seems more favorable at Jadavpur. If you're looking for a better ROI and the potential for high-paying job opportunities, Jadavpur University is the smarter choice, but if you’re passionate about civil engineering and want to work in the construction field, DTU could be the right fit for you.

According to NIRF Rankings, the answer is YES! Additionally, several international rankings show that Jadavpur University (JU) has consistently ranked just below the top 6 IITs and above BITS Pilani.

  • NIRF Engineering 2017:
  • JU - 9th
  • DTU - 39th

MHRD, National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) THE Rankings 2017 World University Rankings

That said, it's important to take all rankings with a grain of salt. However, public perception can often be misleading. DTU, NSIT, and BITS Pilani enjoy better branding and recognition among the general public. JU, despite being equally good, doesn't get as much hype at the national level.

Well, first of all, let me clarify that every comparison is relative, and I won't be biased in this answer.

  • Ranking: According to NIRF rankings, JU is in a much better position than DTU.
  • Economy: In terms of economy, there is no comparison. However, DTU also offers a very good return on investment.
  • Location: Location-wise, DTU has a slight edge over JU, though JU is also situated in the heart of a metropolitan city.
  • Infrastructure: Both colleges have well-maintained infrastructure, but if I had to choose one, I'd go for DTU.
  • Placement: DTU's placements aren't comparable to JU's. To be honest, I'd say JU's placements (in a few departments) are on par with IIT Kgp's placements.
  • Huge lush green pollution-free campus: Yes! This is something you'll love—a huge lush green pollution-free campus.
  • Opportunities: Both colleges will provide multiple opportunities if you are a deserving student. However, the success rate in competitive exams like GATE, CAT, and XAT is a bit higher from Jadavpur University. Even the 2nd ranker in ESE (CE) in 2019 is from Jadavpur University.

Now, it's up to you to decide which college you want to be in. I can assure you one thing: if you choose wisely, you'll have a great experience!

Honestly, I think it really depends on what you want from your college experience. DTU’s B.Tech in Civil Engineering gives you solid opportunities in construction and government exams, plus a lively campus life with fests like Engifest. However, Jadavpur University’s BE in Computer Science offers a cutting-edge curriculum, with impressive internships from companies like Google and top packages reaching 1.2 crore, which is pretty insane. If you’re leaning towards practical fieldwork and government roles, DTU might be your pick, but if you’re excited about tech and high-paying placements, Jadavpur University is the way to go. Personally, I'd go for Jadavpur for the tech buzz and placement potential.
