Ques. What is The Eligibility and Selection Criteria for PG Diploma in Counselling & Stress Management at Jadavpur University?

Ans. Applications are invited for admission to the Two-year P.G. Diploma Course on Counselling and Stress Management for only those candidates who have a Completed Bachelor's degree from any recognised University/Institution. The Total Number of seats for this course is 50. The Selection Criteria for the course a written test and an interview. Admission Fees for the course are INR 42,480/- (Forty two thousand four hundred eighty only), one-time consolidated at the time of admission in an Online mode.

Ques. How are the grievances addressed in Jadavpur University?

Ans. There is a cell for redressal of grievances with reference to examinations in the Examination Section headed by the Controller of Examinations, Jadavpur University. All grievances are responded by the Controller of Examinations and by the Assistant Controller of Examinations by meeting personally with students. As mentioned earlier, there is a provision for review of examination scripts for students and also to see their answer scripts under RTI. For grievances regarding other issues, there are other bodies, including the Foreign Students Cell for international students, the Anti-Ragging Committee, and the Committee for Gender Awareness and Action Against Sexual Harassment. The Centre for Counselling Services and Studies in Self-Development is active and is frequently used by students.

Ques. Which Courses are provided to provide equal opportunities to all students of Jadavpur University?

Ans. Student mentoring has been considerably improved, as have facilities for students (e.g. wi-fi connections in hostels; remote access to library facilities; creation of a separate fund by the university to support needy students, over and above scholarships and freeships; the creation of a Talking Book library for visually-challenged students). The tutorial system exists in some departments; there are provisions for remedial coaching and training in soft skills for students. Add-on courses, at the certificate or diploma level, such as foreign languages, or journalism and mass communication, or radio production, are also offered, at a nominal cost, to all interested students of the university. These courses are conducted beyond regular university hours to enable students to attend them after class. The university's School of Counselling Studies & Self-Development offers free counselling to students who need it.

Most of the faculties are good except one or two and the placement officer are really in good shape which is proved by our stats every year despite not receiving funds from the state for the past 5 years.

Placement Experience:

From 6th semester students become eligible for campus placements and there are plenty of companies that come like in my branch there 35-40 companies (core) came and no of offers were 30.Placement percentage was around 95%.Median package was around 7.5lpa and highest was 15lpa.Well my plans are not decided yet, currently in my 2nd year.

All the major companies such as Google, Amazon ,IBM ,Salesforce visit the campus every Year.Amazon gave the highest number of offers 25 last year. For Information Technology 11 got Amazon and 3 got Google. Amazon gives 46.7 LPA and Google gives 57LPA to students of our college.

My friend is a graduate in CSE from Jadavpur University and according to his experience here are the possible reasons you might be looking for:

Reputation:Each and every institution has some flagship departments, which the institution is best known? for. Most of the CSE alumni of Jadavpur University tend to be highly successful. This has given JU prominence in the IT industry in terms of placement. IIEST has that same reputation for mechanical and civil as per his knowledge.

When my friend joined JU, only the ETCE branch was having the best placement. But according to recent placement statistics, IT and CSE also have reached that prominence.

Quality of students: Last year, the closing rank for JU CSE was 134 in the 3rd round which is quite high. This definitely proves the craze for JU CSE. As IIEST takes students only from JEE Main, it fails to get that much attention because of the top 3 NITs. On the other hand, JU is undoubtedly the best college under WBJEE, so it gets that easily.

Extracurricular activities: You can participate in a lot of activities like Coding Club, Science Club, Linux User Group, Hult prize, etc. This will certainly give a great platform to learn and develop new skills.

Helpful seniors: Seniors are very kind and you won’t be disappointed or refused any help. Some seniors also used to teach juniors on weekly basis in the aforementioned clubs.

Active and responsible placement cell: My friend always used to see how the coordinators and OSD Ma'am worked tirelessly just for the sake of the students. Because of them, the CSE’17 batch had an average salary of 14.696LPA. JU IT and ETCE also had a similar kind of placement.

JU has a huge alumni base which helped my friend and his peers more than one can think of. Getting contacts and recommendations made it possible to invite a lot of companies for campus recruitment.

Which is better, IIEST Shibpur or Jadavpur University CSE placements?

Jadavpur University and IIEST Shibpur are both well-known institutes in the country. I have some friends at both institutes. Based on what I heard from them, I will say for CSE, Jadavpur will be a better choice.

Jadavpur is considered as the best institute in all of West Bengal when it comes to engineering especially CSE. Jadavpur is known to be the pioneer of CSE in India along with ISI and therefore had a head start. Jadavpur University has a better record of quality of education and the opportunities it provides to the students.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that IIEST is not a good option. IIEST is also a very reputed institution in our country and a pioneer in some engineering courses and research fields. You can certainly keep IIEST as your second option after JU.
