Course Curriculum Overview

5

It follows through the history of English literature but doesn't stop there- it extends beyond the modern, feminism, queer movement, delves even into physics and metaphysics, history, philosophy. It is truly interdisciplinary, and not at all about how well one can speak English . However the syllabus sometimes seems packed with material, we have to prioritise which one to study for exam and which to skip. But each class is worth attending. The exams are not difficult if one is well versed with the material and regularly attends classes. In exams, there is no way to cheat even if there isnt any invigilator because the questions are completely based off of our understanding and knowledge gathered from the recommended material and background resources. Reading out of the curriculum is the way to survive in this department enrichingly.

Fees and Financial Aid

Last year I had paid 950/- which includes all kinds of fees. I do not know that of reservations'. Scholarship opportunities are rare, only the ones offered by the state govt and some other foreign universities like Rhodes scholarship (which is the only one I've heard so far) are announced for application

Campus Life

4

There are annual festivals happening year long, the major ones being Sanskriti. There are three sanskritis hosted by the three faculty student unions of arts, science and Engg/tech. Other than that we have National literary fests like Sanglap, and other big freshers events like srijan and u-turn for engg faculties. Some clubs are more active than others like drama, mountaineering and dance. We keep getting calls from other institutions to perform. As for the mountaineering club, its like no other, one of the best ones in India, and dare I say, in Asia. The students are equally keen to participate. There are a range of sports practiced on campus and people go represent our university in sports for various events like Khelo India. As for academic accessibility, we have departmental libraries and one central library, along with two other common libraries, which amounts to almost 40 libraries. In classrooms we have projectors and AC, just enoughspace to accommodate ppl.

Admission

I had given CUET and applied to many colleges except DU and JNU, because it's in Delhi. I had gotten into BHU, VBU, TISS, and 18 other universities. Jadavpur University being in NIRF 4th, i chose that for which I had to give the admission test. The eligibility criteria depends on the number of students giving the exam, and in my time it was 5000+ for 65-70 seats. The exam is easy in my opinion, but one has to contact the help desk people to get more help in the prep.

Faculty

4.5

There are 16 faculty members and several research scholars who are part of the faculty. All professors are extremely qualified and passionate. Same goes for the entirety of Arts Faculty, from English to Film Studies, Comparative Literature to Economics, staffed with experienced professor and packed departmental libraries.
