BITS Pilani tops the list of private engineering colleges in NIRF 2025, followed by SRM Institute of Science and Technology and VIT Vellore.

The NIRF 2025 rankings were released by the Ministry of Education (MoE) on September 4, 2025. This year’s ranking process was stricter than last year’s because the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) added extra parameters and adopted a negative scoring approach to dealing with retracted research papers and removed citations. BITS Pilani was named the best private engineering institution at the 11th rank overall, compared to rank 20 in 2024.

Which Is The Top Private Engineering College In India As Per NIRF 2025?

As per the official list, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, is ranked the highest among private engineering institutions in 2025. Its overall ranking improved to 11th from 20th last year. Following BITS Pilani, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST) ranked 14th, and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) ranked 16th in the engineering category.

How Were Private Engineering Colleges Ranked In 2025?

The NIRF 2025 engineering rankings were prepared using the following five parameters:

Parameter Description
Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR) Focuses on the quality of teaching, learning environment, and resources.
Research and Professional Practice (RP) Evaluates research output, quality, and professional contributions.
Graduation Outcomes (GO) Measures student graduation rates and success in academic programs.
Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) Assesses efforts in diversity, inclusion, and community engagement.
Peer Perception (PP) Reflects reputation and perception among academic and industry peers.

Note: In 2025, stricter evaluation rules were applied. Institutes with retracted research papers or removed citations received negative marks to ensure higher academic integrity in rankings.
