Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum varies for different semester. But the one thing that remains constant is that it gives special attengion to critical thinking and creative writing. We have to look at texts and writings from an analytical point of view which in turn increases our thinking skills. It enables us to learn about the writing formats of emails, term papers, abstracts which are very helpful for future academic pursuations. Although the curriculum is an almost perfect one, there is a serious lack of female autors and poets in our syllabus. As a department which actively promotes feminism and equality, more inclusive texts would much more welcomed. The exams conducted are not that frequent and are easy. This is because as a department we believe exams are not a sure way to evaluating our levels. It forces upon us a certain performance and strata of achievement. Many, under that pressure, fails to give their best. This way of thinking is much appreciated amongst us.

Internships Opportunities

4

Jadavpur University is quite known for thwir engineering faculties. Without any doubt it has one of India's best engineering departments. As a result, the internship and job offers are also quite high. In 2024, there was a 97% success rate of campus interview and the highest recieved package was 94 lpa. Many successful and in demand comoanies like Google, Apple, Tata Steel etc provide job and inetrnship offers. Amd most of the internship offers ends up in permamnet jobs in thw resoective company. Thus, Jadavpur lives uo to its prestigious name.

Fees and Financial Aid

The year wise fees was taken during the admission, an amount of Rs 1235/-. There was a number of sub categories, such as, tution fees of R 900/-, admission fees of Rs 100/-, Registration fees Rs 25/-, library deposit Rs 50/-, sports fees of Rs 100/-, session charges Rs 50/-, health card of Rs 10/-. There was no charge taken for lab session and for caution deposit. There were no other hidden charges either. The fees remains the same for other categories. There are some scholarships available like the Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship, it goes upto Rs 60,000/- per year deoending on the financial conditions of the recipient. The scholarships and reduced fees for certain categories help the students a lot in pursuing their studies.

Campus Life

3.5

The campus life is the most interesting one. It provides a heamthy environment where everybody can interact with each other and make friends. As the campus is huge is size, it would have been difficult to make friends, but such is the charm of JU. One will always find peers with same mentality and intersts. There are a variety of clubs amd extracurricular activities offered here. For example, there is literature club, a mountaineering club, a chess club and so on. There are also cultural clubs like the dance forum, painting and photography club, drama club etc. These clubs regularly organize meets and competitions which enrich our minds. People from all departments and all years join here. Thus the campus has great unity and one makes great friends aling the way. It impacts our social life affirmatively. Ankther grear aspect are the libraries and the number of different books it offer. Every department has a library of their own which contain great number of books.

Admission

I was a NEET aspirant first. But as it is a hell lot of tough, I, unfortunately, could not crack it. That is when I thought of changing my stream to Arts. I had three choices, St Xaveir's, Presidency College and Jadavpur University. I couldnt get to the first two as the cut off for Xavier's was quite high and PUBDET, the entrance exam for Presidency was very tough. The third choice was Jadavour University. The entrance exam was also quite high standard but i cracked it with ease and got a rank of 25 in the unreserved category of the confirmed list. It was a really tough time for me, so cracking the JU entrance was heavenly. The marking scheme of JU entrance exam is the same as other colleges and universities. 50% of our acquired board mark along with 50% of our acquired entrance exam marks. I got a total of 86%. Anyone interested to study in Jadavpur has to undergo their entrance examitation for their preferred subjects. For me it was English and Chemistry. I got in English.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty is really imcomparable. They master their field and gracefully try to pass it on to their students. While some are quite average in their respective fields, most of them are fabulous professors. The faculty to student ratio is 1:5, so every student gets separate attention and care and gets a chance to grow to their full potential. My personal favourites are DM and RBC, two of the most progressive and liberal faculty of our department. They taught us to go beyond the limits of books and learn things as one should. It has helped me to grow a lot. My least favourite is KB. He is one of the meanest of our department and tells the truth without sugarcoating. While that is beneficial, the harsh truth still is bitter to the ears. Exams are easy. The end sem consist of 30 marks and there are two internal exams which the students have to give, each of that carry 10 marks, so a total of 50 marks. This exam system is one of the best tthins of this uuniversity.
