UPES B.Tech CSE FAQs
Q1. Is UPESEAT mandatory for B.Tech CSE admission at UPES, or can I get admission through JEE Main?
Ans. UPESEAT is not mandatory. UPES accepts JEE Main scores (minimum 50th percentile), CUET-UG scores, SAT scores (minimum 1040), and Board Merit (minimum 80% in Class X, XII, and PCM) as alternative pathways. Students who do not have any of these scores need to appear for UPESEAT. The exam is conducted online and is 2 hours long.
Q2. What is the difference between B.Tech CSE (Core) and B.Tech CSE with a specialization at UPES? Do they have the same fees?
Ans. UPES offers B.Tech CSE with 10+ specializations such as AI and ML, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, DevOps, Full Stack Development, Data Science, Big Data, IoT, Graphics and Gaming, and Core Computer Science. The fees are the same across all CSE specializations. The specialization is chosen at the time of admission and determines the elective courses and industry focus of the program.
Q3. How are placements for B.Tech CSE at UPES? Is the median package really Rs. 6.5 LPA?
Ans. The median package for B.Tech CSE at UPES has been around Rs. 6.5 LPA in recent years, with the top 10% of students earning an average CTC of Rs. 17.4 LPA. The highest package secured by a UPES School of Computer Science alumnus is Rs. 1.3 Crore. Top recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, Accenture, Deloitte, Capgemini, and many others. However, students should note that placement statistics refer only to students who opted for and are eligible for placements.
Q4. Can I switch my specialization after joining B.Tech CSE at UPES?
Ans. Specialization changes are generally not permitted after admission, as the curriculum is designed around the chosen specialization from Semester 1 itself. Students are advised to carefully choose their specialization at the time of application. However, the university does offer minor programs that allow students to gain knowledge in areas outside their primary specialization.
Q5. What is the Global Pathway Program (GPP) at UPES, and is it worth it?
Ans. The Global Pathway Program allows B.Tech CSE students to complete part of their degree at the University of Queensland, Australia. Students pay UPES fees for the Indian portion and the University of Queensland fees for the Australian portion (approximately INR 4,80,000 per year to UPES for the B.Tech CSE GPP). It is a good option for students seeking international exposure and a dual-degree advantage, but involves significantly higher overall costs. Note that GPP students are not eligible for most UPES scholarships.
Q6. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed at UPES for B.Tech CSE students?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at UPES is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is not guaranteed. Students are advised to apply for hostel accommodation early after receiving their admission offer. The hostel fee ranges from Rs. 1,83,000 to Rs. 2,32,000 per year depending on the room type and campus (Bidholi or Kandoli). An additional refundable hostel security deposit of Rs. 10,000 is required at the time of registration.
