there are 2 fests very well known whivh happens each year. the biggest one is called moksha, usually held in march although it got postponed to april this year. there are a variety of books for b.tech students availible in the library as for b.des, lets say its a moderat eamount. the library is especially filled around exam days and there are vey less sockets, sometimes no seat will be available. there are plenty of societies available although a few are said to have tterrible senior interactions. there is a sports ground with running tracks, two throwball and tennis and basketball courts. although majority of th etime u will find the tennis court used as a cricket one and due to the large number of students u would barely find it empty.

Faculty

the faculty was interactive with the students but a few of the guest facult were too focused on their idioligy, did not accept a new form of style. although now as we have been told we will have a permanant faculty next session onwards so nothing can be said now. the marking schemes is totally dependant on the teacher on what they want, a few wanted long paragraphs written out while some wanted some specific keywords to be present. majority students barely passed in the computer class

I am design so in design some faculties are really good and has a good sense of design but some are just artist who are pushed into design yeah we shoukd have fine arts faculty but 1-2 is enough there is more quatity of fine arts faculty than design faculty i hope they overcome this. So in design we don't have mid sem instead we have internal marking which is held with exhibition after every module and end sem juries which is good and this is how exactly its supposed to be.. this is in foundation year later in second/ third year we choose our own speciations in which we are marked on the bases of projects given to us by respective faculties and as per first year 2nd and 3rd year also as end semester juries btw juries are only for one day there is 2 internal juries and 1 external jury. Also juries are brutal as it is nor very heavy marking its just of around 30 - 40 marks its just giving of feedbacks but juries sometimes disagree with each other and give pressure to the student who is presenting and also faculties can sometimes be so much and so much biased which just affects the students marks who he/ she doesn't like and this has taken place with me many times

We have an annual fest planned by college itself called uurja it is very much popular among students it has dance, dj, theme party, fashion shows. In technical events we have hackathon which is held around october. Books availability is very good in upesThe Central Library has a vast collection of books, research papers, and digital journals.they also provide with softwares Design students can find books on UI/UX, branding, fashion, and architecture.Smart classrooms with AV setups, digital boards, and projectors.Design studios with Wacom tablets, 3D printers, laser cutting machines, and high-end PCs which is imac studios which have like 27 i macs available for students. Sports facilities for football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, table tennis, and badminton students have everyday practice and there are sports fest held called spandan every year and also inter college fests.

The college runs 4 years of the B.Des course. It provides 4 different specialization in this course. In the first year every thing will be the basic of all the specializations in the course so that the student will have enough knowledge to choose his course effectively.

Campus Life

The campus life in this college is good enough because there is minimum of 1 or 2 fests or some sort of functions in the college per semester. The studies will go very smoothly if we know what we are doing in the course and interested in it.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total amount of fees for me is around 3,00,000 also it depends on tuition / transportation / hostel as well as reservation certification also varies. Some of my batchmates have the reservation certificates so they have to pay lesser amount and fees also increases on the basis of year.

Campus Life

My overall experience in the campus is very amazing as the social life , club activities, sports activities, etc... are very interesting and engaging for all the students. The classrooms are pretty tidy and well maintained by both workers and students after the classes are done.

The teachers are all nice and caring they Never make you feel bad or taunt you in any manner. The students are having a good relationship with the faculties and they also respect their decisions. There are a total of 3 exams in a semester. My best teacher in the faculty would be Abhinav sir And there are no such bad teachers

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum is well updated with the current situation. Our course is mainly based on exploring the outside world and observing and learning new things. According time there is no such need for any improvement in the course curriculum. The exams are really easy with plenty of time to prepare

But we got the opportunities to meet different people who have some startups there are frequent webinars in our college and soo many workshops and industrial trips as well Our library is big and there are lot of books you want to read according to your taste We have our own design studios where we work and make our assignments and we also have our individual lockers to keep our stuff There are indoor games like table tennis, carrom, chess, etc.

Fees and Financial Aid

For the first year i paid 98800 and now I'm in second year and i paid 93800 and i will be paying 93800 for each remaining years. There is no difference in fees based on their category we all are paying the same amount. Yes you can pay fees in 2 emi if you want to but you have to show your parents income certificate. Yess, there scholarships but they are based on your parents annual income and students from uttarpradesh got the preference

Course Curriculum Overview

Overall its good but there is lack of software on which we work on. Specially blender 3d. There should be more softwares and easy ways to do a thing. I wanted to learn vfx so i pursue this course. In every 2.5 - 3 months we get a notice of examination. Examination happens in 3 Tike slot Morning Day and Afternoon. Overall Examination are Easy but soo much lenghty. Which is so much time consuming. Only ting i don't like of my college is 75% Attendance criteria in every subject.

Campus Life

Typically we have grafest every year and Freshers every year. And small Events like games related ( cricket and etc) Other are online games. Sports clubs are there it contains badminton court, basketball court, 2 Table Tennis, arm wrestling, ludo, Chess and Carrom. Every children get free access to internet but it is not so high speed internet. Overall library is good you can get every possible book from library.

The faculty to student ratio is 50:1. The relationship with the teachers is highly commendable. They are very helpful and provide excellent assistance to students. They have per semester exams of all subjects and they are not so difficult for students. In my knowledge, very few students get back if they have very low marks. My course is good but can be better.

Campus Life

My overall experience with campus life has been very positive. We celebrate every festival collectively and enjoy good infrastructure. They have an extensive library for every field. Additionally, they have an online portal for this, so one can gain access and then borrow some books there.

In design the faculty has always been friendly but a few teachers had a personal grudge with me, I am not sure why. I had an amazing bond with Nilav sir, he always helped around before every jury he would call me up and ask me about my preparation. He is gem of a teacher. In design there are no written exams only Juries.

Campus Life

Uurja held in November where a celebrity would called to perform, spandan a sports festival in September, Dholida a navratri festival in October. The autumn and winter timeline at the college is amazing. As for the student run clubs there is a lot of politics and biasness

Campus Life

Campus area of our college is 149 acres which is a decent area for a college. As our college is old infrastructure is not excellent but yes we have decent infrastructure with a lot of greenery. Faculty

For Design there are mainly 2 Sections with about 60 students each. Classes are just one person day which includes lecture, workshop and studio hours. Select few Faculty are really good and will teach appropriately but majority of them are not that good or supportive in general. If you come to this college, you might Encounter prof. Neeraj Rathee and Partha Pratima Das that you might enjoy studying and working alongside with. You might get along with Prof. Ravindra if you are from Industrial Design And in other scenario, avoid Taruna, Shraddha, and Awani as your Professor as they have a big bias for a select few students all the time. And maybe you will directly be targetted by them for no apparent reason. Exams here are easy, I must say. You do not have to prepare much as they will be practical based and if not, then you will have not so difficult questions. Main weightage is given to your Jury and Final project presentation as those projects will be the one where you'll learn the most from.

Fees and Financial Aid

My annual fees for my 4 years in college range from 214000 to 250000. Each year the fees would increase by about 20 percent. I am writting this as a general category student without any reservations or scholarships, etc. For reserved category, the fees can range from 140000 to 180000 (approx). For scholarships, there are financial aids provided to a select few of around 75000 to students annually. And other merit based scholarships like NTSE clearing student scholarships is also applicable here. Considering the fees in other colleges and schools for Design in India, This college comes under much affordable options.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is 1:17 each class has approximately 50 people (in the first year) with 3 professors and 3 teaching assistants assigned to each class. All the faculty members give personal attention to each and every student. I wouldn't reveal names but i love all the professors all of them are cery approachable and never hesitate to solve any doubts. We dont have exams as such rather submissions of specific assignments on which we are graded and recieve credits there is a jury week in the mid-sem and end-sem where 2 major submissions happen and we recieve grades. The course is extremely detailed with no stone unturned and completely relevant to the degree

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees for all undergraduate courses is 4 lakh per annum which does not include any hostel charges. There is a merit based scholarship which is offered to students who had the best ranks from different competitive examinations. The merit based scholarship ranges from 30%-90%. There is a need based scholarship for students whose family earns less than 15lpa who are offered a 50% scholarship. During the course the lab fees is a minimal 600rs per semester for the lab to buy materials. There is no reservation/ scholarship based on caste as this is a private college

Course Curriculum Overview

The course seemed promising with well-made decisions. Real-world application depends on self-work, nobody will feed you with a silver spoon, so if you don't work hard, it's useless. Improvement can be made based on structure as every year things change making the old structure redundant and useless for the existing students. Exams are twice every year with multiple assignments every few weeks, difficulty is subjective.

Faculty

The ratio of the faculty to students is around 1:30, faculties are very approachable. Best faculties are the ones who you can connect with and show them that you can work. There are 2 exams every year with multiple assignments for every sub course, exams are subjectively graded based on different criteria, not like conventional memory based exams.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total tuition fee for the general category students is 800000 including admission fee of 16150 . But there are fee waivers for different categories. I was from st quota so I I just had to pay the admission fees. The tuition fee was completely free. I had to pay the hostel and mess which was around 43000 for a semester excluding security deposits. Apart from that you also have to pay some fees for extras but that isn't much it's somewhere around 10000. The institution informs you about the scholarship during your studies. Considering a course like design it's cheaper than other institutions and the quality isn't compromised plus you get the benefits of IIT delhi.

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio is very good. And the design faculty is pretty friendly, nice and understanding. The faculty are top class and the more you know about them the more astonishing you feel. They love their work and expect the best from you so they make you work hard too so buckle up. The curriculum is interesting and fun in design. There is hardly any wriiten exams but you have to do a lot of work on projects and assignments.

Urja is the main event of UPES but there are quite alot of small events happening almost every 2 months . the library is one of the best things on campus with a huge collection that you can easily get to read free of cost every faculty has all the equipment required and technology, it is also available for students to use college's equipment. the sports are not quite famous here and there are clubs here but only a few and they have a really big impact on your student life depending on which club you join

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees is a bit on the expensive side looking at other colleges or the colleges nearby while the hikes are almost none their is always some hidden charges in the fees the complete course of education including hostel food and college would come around to be almost 50 lakh INR their are quite a few scholarship that you get but to continue getting the scholarship you need to score more than 8cgpa . The campus placements , responsibilites and stipends are very average

Course Curriculum Overview

In design, there are many competitive colleges, including NID, NIFT, NSUT and IITs. NID AND IITs have no comparison. I personally found DTU better than NIFT and NSUT becuase of 1. infrstructure, 2. electives offered here and 3. Placements. NIFT provides only Fashion Design and Fashion related courses, on the other hand, NSUT gives only Product and Fashion Design courses. I wanted to pursure Interaction Design, which was only provided by DTU. Secondly, DTU's curriculum is in such a way that, apart from your first foundation year, you can opt for electives of any two different feilds in the secon year in order to keep your options bigger, So, for example, I am attracted towards Interaction Design and Product Design, in other colleges i have to have to chose only one feild, but in DTU, in the form of electives, I can opt for both the feilds and further make my decision after experiencing both of them.

Faculty

If I talk specifiaclly about my course, i.e Design, since it is a new feild in DTU, hence there are few faculty memebers. All of the teachers are highly skilled and experienced. But there is no spoonfeeding happening in the college, you have to do the assignments/work on your own. Teachers will help you but you have to gather the opportunities selfishly. In the other departments, the student-teacher ratio may not always be optimal. There are times when, in one class, there are 70-80 students studying under one teacher.

Ques. Is a B.Des. from DTU a good option?

● Top Answer By Sanjana Kapoor on 05 Jul 23

Ans. My friend was in the second batch of this course. She was hesitant initially as the course was relatively new and everyone was against her idea of taking it. She believed that everything is new initially and someone has to take it to make it old.  India has a very limited number of design colleges and it’s quite difficult to make it into one. The limited options and the huge crowd makes the completion tougher.  Faculties : The faculty of Design at DTU comprises highly qualified professors from IITs, NIDs, and highly renowned colleges like the Royal College of Art, UK. They will be your mentors and guide you excellently. Value : DTU enjoys a good brand value that will be reflected in your degree. Its rich legacy will open multiple doors of opportunities for you. Internships : The internship opportunities are great offering tremendous exposure and industrial experience. Placements : Decent companies approach design students and offer good packages after acknowledging your skills. Infrastructure : Many labs are under construction such as CAD Lab, Soft and Hard material lab, and 3D Printing Lab. Other infrastructural facilities include a 159-acre campus and a library well-stocked with design books. Curriculum : The curriculum has been designed at par with foreign as well as IIT IDC Syllabi. The Course has specialization in the fields of Product Design, Visual Communication Design, and Interaction Design. Ultimately, bear in mind the fact that this course is new and it will take years for its credibility to reflect.Read more

Ques. What is the difference between the B-Des programme at IIT-Bombay and the B-Des programme at IIT-Guwahati?

● Top Answer By suhana on 20 Jul 24

Ans. I am a first-year BDes student at IIT Bombay. Design is one of the fastest-growing departments of our institution. My seniors achieved 71% placements in 2023. Top companies like Microsoft, Samsung R&D, Flipkart, Uber etc. offered campus placements to B.Des students in the previous year.  Here is a comparison table for IIT Bombay BDes vs IIT Guwahati BDes: Parameters IIT Bombay B-Des IIT Guwahati B-Des NIRF 2023 Ranking #4 (Overall) #9 (Overall) Tuition Fee INR 1 Lakh per semester  (Nil for SC/ST/PwD students)   For more details- https://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/fee_structure_2024_UG_New_EntrantsAutumn.pdf  INR 1 Lakh per semester (Nil for SC/ST/PwD students)   For more details- https://www.iitg.ac.in/acad/admission/imp_info/fee.php  B.Des Curriculum Applied Science, semiotics, communication theories, visual studies, etc. Form Studies, Representation Techniques, Ergonomics, Typography, etc. Placement Percentage 71% 74% Average Package INR 18 LPA INR 20.59 LPA Top Recruiters Microsoft, Samsung R&D, Flipkart, Uber etc. Sprinklr, Ola, Various UI/UX roles, etc. As evident from the above statistics, the B.Des programs at IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati are equally good. But IIT Bombay is located in one of the major Indian cities. The advantage of opting for B.Des programme at IIT Bombay is that you’ll get much better off campus opportunities. Moreover, Bombay is closer to other important cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, etc. Thus, I would recommend you join the B.Des program at IIT Bombay. Read more

Ques. What is the scope of a bachelor of design from IIT Guwahati?

● Top Answer By Sohini Ghose on 04 May 23

Ans. Bachelor of Design or B.Des is a great program offered by IIT Guwahati. Here are a few pros and cons to give you a better understanding of the course Pros : Excellent placements: The Bachelor of Design at IIT Guwahati has amazing placements. The placement percentage is around 85-90%. The highest CTC in 2021 was recorded at INR 35 LPA and the average is in the range of 12-15 LP.  Easier grading: IIT Guwahati follows a relative grading system which means you will be graded relative to the students of your branch. This system is very easy and I know a student who had a 7.3 CPI of 7.3 in his first year but managed to score 9.2 in his third semester. Many others have an SPI above 9. Matter - The concepts taught are associated with the job roles you will be offered and the learning experience is great with very approachable professors. You will be given many projects to hone your skills.  Cons Owing to the general assumption, people will consider you inferior for joining this branch. However, it’s much more than just art. It comprises web designing, app designing and other designing elements. All in all, to make the most out of the program you will have to explore beyond academics and undertake challenging projects to broaden your knowledge base.Read more

They have years of experience in the design industry domain. The teaching methodology is effective. Students are provided with practical and real-time exposure from their first semester. Which goes a long way to enhance their skills.  Avantika University has a beautiful campus, well-equipped with all necessary facilities. Students are given access to 24*7 wifi or LAN.  Read more

Ques. Is IIT Guwahati safe for South Indians from Hyderabad? How do they treat southern people that are IIT Guwahati BDes students?

● Top Answer By Sohini Ghose on 05 May 23

Ans. IIT Guwahati is safe not only for South Indians but for every student of the college. The campus is very beautiful and the serene ambiance attracts many across the country. There is no reason to feel insecure here. If it’s the Hyderabad people you are worried about, lay your worries to rest because they are the most friendly you will find.  There is no impartial attitude towards students from any state and professors treat every student equally. Despite the language barrier, you can see great harmony between the students as they can often be seen playing together.  You can find diverse peer groups here and the love for Engineering and nature can be seen as the binding factor between them. Parents of certain children often hesitate from sending their children to the Northeast but trust me after a few months you will think of IIT Guwahati as your home, such is its charm.Read more
