The IIT(ISM) Review

Likes

The course is very well structured and faculty are very much helpful as well as knowledgeable
The college fests are simply fantastic and very vibrant.
The campus is very clean, full of greenery, and very active student clubs.

Dislikes

The hostel room for first years is not that great but its good
Mess food is usually great but sometimes in a week it is not vood
The boys to girls ratio of the college is not great but good.

Placement Experience:

From 7th or 8th semester student are eligible for campus placements (not sure but approx). Some of the companies that visit for recruitment are Google, Amazon, Bajaj, ONGC, Accenture Japan, etc. The highest and average oackage offered in my branch (mechanical engineering) are 51 LPA and 12 LPA respectively. Around 75 percent of stydents were placed in my branch (others opted for further higher studies, off campus placements, etc.) I have planned to get a job and continue studies parallely.

My experience at IIT ISM Dhanbad

Likes

Faculties are amazing at teaching as well as helpful.
Placements and Internship record is amazing
Campus Life is very good with different fests and cultural clubs.

Dislikes

Girls to Boys ratio is very low i.e. 1:7
There is a lot of academic pressure with 42 classes per course per semester.
75% attendance is compulsory to sit in endem exam.

Placement Experience:

Many different companies visit IIT ISM Dhanbad for placements like Google, Amazon, etc. Average package for the college is Rs. 1700000 whereas average package for my course (Mathematics and Computing) is 2500000.

I like the Security of the campus. You can freely wherever you go in the campus at any time.
Also, I like the Competitive environment.
The campus is full of greenery. Also the campus isn't so big hence travelling isn't that big issue.

Dislikes

I didn't find anything which i would have disliked.

Placement Experience:

The placement tem is also very good i must say. You'll get ample of opportunities in Software wheareas opportunities is very less in Core. The highestpackage goes above 50lpa. The avg package in core companies is around 14lpa. Google, zepto, Salesforce, Microsoft, Accenture, Golmann Scahs are someof the companies for software and JsW, Bajaj, british Petroleum, JSP, hPCl, HLS asia are some of the companies which visits campus for placement drive.

IIT ISM better than other gen 2 IITs ?

The college has an amazing Infrastructure, it is a blend of modern and ancient infrastructure. The institute has all major facilities which includes multiple lecture hall buildings more than 20 well functional hostels and separate departments.
Amazing alumni support, this institute was earlier known by ISM and is functional since 1926, the alumni support in placements and fests is crazy.
Sports facility are a wow, you name it and we have it, Squash, cricket, hockey, football, basketball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, athletics, aquatics and much more. Sports enthusiast will love it,

Dislikes

A stricter administration, they are quite rigid and have non flexible policies,
Girl to boy ratio isn't that great, their are around 200 girls for 1000 boys

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very much relevant to modern science and tech. the curriculum will change from department to department but courses such as cryptography, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, image processing, nanoscience and nanoparticles are thought to students.

Placement Experience:

The placement of IIT dhanbad is very good and it offers a average package of 24lpa with highest package of 66lpa this year. Also every year more than 70% students get placed in our college. Specially the core companies shows a lot of interest in our college like coal india, sail, gail, petroleum industries companies, mining companies , etc Average package of cse here is 28lpa with 90% placement rate. Average of electrical is 23lpa with placement rate of 80%. Similarly, every branch average package lies between 18lpa to 24lpa.

Campus environment is very good over 400+ accers
Lush green campus with good facilities and good maintainance of campus

Dislikes

Washrooms are not well maintained, sanitation is not that good in hostels
Ragging is still going on, its specifically communal ragging

Course Curriculum Overview:

There is no aspect of the curriculum that influenced, i have choose this course because of my JEE ADV rank. Our course is not that bad, they actually teach for our further academic pursuits. One thing that i wanted to improve that the syllabus that we are being taught is different from the experiments we do in the labs (specifiacally physics) if they are related then we could understand the concepts easily. The frequency and timings are reasonable on their difficulty level.

MBA in IIT Dhanbad

Course affordability is one thing to be appreciated. IIT Dhanbad provides all courses relatively cost effiecnt
Campus is green and clean. Very big campus and lot of fests and ECA during the whole year. There are 2 major fests Srijan and Concetto, while attracting students from other colleges also and one annual sports fest called Prakaram
Curriculum is well strcutured, you will be provided lecture plan in the first class only by faculty. Faculty mostly uses ppt to explain, and the same pdf are then shared with students through MIS

Dislikes

There is not much to do outside campus, you might find yourself lost if you're travelling alone. No quality service centers for laptops or mobiles.
There is restriction regarding hostel entry and even campus entry after 11, warnings are sent to both student and parent. After 3 warning you will be fined. Infact there is fine for everything, even when you miss any deadlines
Faculty are good but sometimes they are teaching subjects they are not good at, seems like they have some rotations policy for subject allocation as well. TA are not helpful, their only purpose seems to take attendance and no knowledge sharing

Placement Experience:

Placemnts for MBA are not good, last year it was better compared to this year, reason being market conditions, aslo there is lack of diversified roles this year,most roles are sales oriented in MBA. Many companies backed out from palcemnts - Morgan Stanley, Barclays, EY, PWC, Fedral Bank.... B.Tech companies are really good and all big brands visit campus, many studens are ppo'ed.

The short review of my dream college

Likes

IIT dhanbad campus is very greenery. Campus is well developed.
Academic are very fabulous. Institute has his own lagecy. Institute is completed its 100 years at 2026
Bonding is well good between professors and students. There are many sports and clubs. Boys and girls ratio(per 100 )- boys: girls 100:15

Dislikes

Campus is good but Dhanbad city is not well developed.
There are no many food options for vegetarian out of the campus.

Placement Experience:

Placement are good of this college.previous many students placed by many companies. Google, Flipkart , TaTa steel and many more companies arrived in this college. Petroleum Engineering is good branch it's placements is good and average package is 25 lakh.

Likes

Academic and research level of the college is high
College promotes entrepreneurship by providing seed funding
Sports and extra curricular facilites are amazing

Dislikes

Hostel rooms and cleanliness can improve overall
Bus shuttle system can be re introduced for convenient movement within college
More autonomy and independence to student Gymkhana

Placement Experience:

Placements and internships opportunities are plenty, both in core engineering and in other non engineering (finance, consulting, banking, etc). I choose to go for placement in core engineering and got placed during the placement season. My department saw around 70% placement with several top chemical companies visiting and offering students competitive salaries and benefits. Internship opportunities are open for third year students and job opportunity for final year students

Senior Junior culture of our college. Here after interaction in first year you always have your seniors for helping you in everything
There are so many societies and Student activity center for Cultural like Dramatics, Dance, Music almost everything.
As I mentioned above you can do whatever you want other than academics. I personally likes Cultural societies more.

Dislikes

You may dislike the location of college i.e. Dhanbad. Like there are almost nothing to visit rather than our college.

Placement Experience:

There are a dedicated placement cell named as SCPT. This placement cell includes some professors and students to approach companies for visiting our campus for hiring. All big companies like google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman etc. visits campus every year for both internship and placements. Also core branches companies like texas , nividia etc visits college.

Which one is better, IIT Dhanbad for ECE or IIT Bhubaneswar for electrical?

IIT Dhanbad ranks 15th among the Engineering category by NIRF 2019. It is a much older establishment than IIT Bhubaneswar. The fee structure for BTech in ECE at IIT Dhanbad is 2,30,120 for one year. It Requires a JEE ranking of 3000-10000 for ECE. The ECE department of IIT Dhanbad has seen 60% placement of students with an average annual salary package of 15 lakhs per annum and highest being 39 lakhs per annum. IIT Dhanbad has a total of 332 faculty members who are highly qualified and experienced members. Out of total, 315 members are Ph.D. holders.

IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 17th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2019. It is one of the newer IITs. The students with JEE ranking between 2000-7000 are eligible for Electrical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Bhubaneswar in 2019 has seen 89% placement in the Civil Engineering Department with an average annual salary package of 11 lakhs per annum, 39 lakhs per annum being the highest. Thus, IIT Dhanbad will be a better option to study ECE than Electrical Engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar because, Being one of the oldest established IITs, IIT Dhanbad is known for its quality of education and their campus life. It also has better and more experienced faculty members.
