Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course Curriculum is well structured and well defined. I was drawn to the business analytics course specifically while joining this course, but there were not enough core subjects and even faculty. Mostly operations and finance subjects were tought as most faculty are from these backgrounds only in Management Deparment. Though there is provision of 6 months internship in 3rd semester but CDC or placement fails to get any internship and students have to try thier luck off campus only. Then for that semester in which we are doing internship outside of college, which we got by ourselves, we have pay full fees to college even hostel accomodation and mess fees. Though you have a very tedious procedure to get mess fees back.

Placement Experience

2

Placemnts for MBA are not good, last year it was better compared to this year, reason being market conditions, aslo there is lack of diversified roles this year, most roles are sales oriented in MBA. Many companies backed out from palcemnts - Morgan Stanley, Barclays, EY, PWC, Fedral Bank.... B.Tech companies are really good and all big brands visit campus, many studens are ppo'ed.

Fees and Financial Aid

1st Semester (Monsoon) Fees : 1,16,470 2nd Semester (Winter) Fees: 1,03,780 3rd Semester (Monsoon) Fess:1,11,450 4th Semester (Winter) Fees: 1,01,400 Additionally, theres is a optioal seperate fees for summer semester which is held inbetween summer vacation in june and july. Fees is 10,000 per course. Tution Fees ; 75,000 Hostel Mess Fee : 18,000 per semester (included in total semester fees) One Time Charges Institute Admission Fees: 500 Hostel Admission Fees : 500 Benevolnet Fund : 200 ID Card : 100 Medical Examination Fee: 100 Alumnus Subscription and IIT(ISM) Alumini Fee: 3,500 Institute Development Fund : 2,000 Convocation Charges : 1,000 Caution Money : 5,000 Migration Fee : 500' For SC/ST Category Student, they have to pay hostel and mess fees and some other fees, they do not have to pay college tution fees amounting to 75000. Also they get refund of their mess and hostel fees also through scholarship spicfically for them every semester.

Campus Life

3

Overall experience is good but placments were really disappointing. Faculty at times will be very egoistic and don't allow to discuss. Our freshers were cancelled because of conflict of seniors . There is not many auditorium for these events. One more audi is in construction phase. There is a lot of politics involved among stuents also, as class gets dived into age groups and very aged people try to dominate. Be careful!!

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Facilites provide : WIFI , Volleyball court, tennis court, lawn, green campus, nice gym, all sports and games, swimming pool and laundry services and barber shop within campus. Mess food menu can be changed by studnts choice. Food quality used is good but taste is not, one might wounder how that happens. No seperate mess for vegeterians. Veg and non veg is cooked in same kitchen and kitched in very diryt. Often you'll find insects and hair in you food served. You'll have to rely on RD Tea shop for samosas and chai, and for nescafe for maggi and coffee. Hostel and mess are affordable but don't expect it be very well furnised, you'll just get basic amenities depending on your hostel. Aquamarin is a new hostel but that is only for B.Tech 2 and 3 year. You will have proper ventilation and that also becomes passage for rats, snakes, flies and lizards.

Admission

I chose this Institute mostly because of its affordibilty and that they were offerring mba in business analytics which is not offered by most insitute. Admission process is very simple, there is a online form opened on IIT Dhanbad's offical website after CAT results declaration. Then there shortlist announced around may - june, student has to pay fees within 3 days, the entire fees is non refundable after 5 days. So better choose wisely considering all the factors. After you have payed fees they will ask you to choose between mba general or business analytics if you've applied for both. Otherwise this step will be omitted. In August you'll be called for document verification in person, there you'll have to bring along medical fitness certficate and go to medical centre for thier prelimnary checkup and thier from there to NLHC for Ducument verification, after that you'll have to go to hostel for registration, that will take longer that the process so far.

Faculty

4

Faculty are pretty informed and comming from very good academic backgrounds. Most of them are either from Bengal or Bihar. Need more diversity there. For many who joined as fresh Professor, their only goal seems to teach for 1-2 year, gain experience and then move to IIT Kharapur and settle there. They should not leave as most of them are great Professors and are really good at what they do. Course structure is well defined and even study material is shared to students just after class or prior in many cases. There are 2 mid sems and 1 end semester held every semester, and mcq quizzes just a week before midsmes. They marks distribution is 20 marks for quiz, ppt, assisnments and mid sems and 30 for endsem. The grading patter is relative hence you have to be better than your peer to pass or top. Normally no one fails. For business analytics courses curriculum can be improved and relevant subjects can added and even faculty.

Interview Experience

4

There was no group discussion, there was only one PI which was vitual. Process is very simple. Prepare you graduation subjects well. As most of the faculty are from opertions specialiation so better prepare some statistics and operations subjects, this is must for mechanical engineers. You should have one maths subjects and 75+ in your graduation for mba business analytics. There is no such criteria for MBA General, you just need to score well in recent CAT exam.

Placement Experience:

After 4th semester students get eligible for placements. I guess around more than 50+ companies visit the campus. The highest package is always around 20+ lakhs and on average you can consider 12 lakhs while the lowest is 8 lakhs. The percentage of students getting placed can be said around 95%. My plan is to get a good corporate job and work there as such no fancy plans.

Placement Experience:

There are many companies that visit IMS and pick students by taking exams and interviews. Some of them include Accenture, Capgemini, tcs, etc. These multinational companies visit and you can take your chance by qualifying exam and interview. In short, there is full placement in IMS and you will surely be settled after your course.
