IIT ISM Dhanbad - A college journey

Course curriculum is revised every year in tune with industrial needs and upgradation in respective domain taken place over the years so it is really helpful and in detail. Teaching methods involve a healthy mix of theory, practical and industrial exchange to get hands on knowledge about each topic and are periodically assessed through various means to understand the level of understanding of the children

Internship opportunities for all departments are plenty. Third year students are applicable for internships which is organised by the training and placement cell of the college. Several companies from all domains come to the college. Core and non core (including companies in finance, consulting, Banking, etc) offer internship opportunities with stipends and offers exciting projects ongoing in the company and also offers PPO to worth students

Placements and internships opportunities are plenty, both in core engineering and in other non engineering (finance, consulting, banking, etc). I choose to go for placement in core engineering and got placed during the placement season. My department saw around 70% placement with several top chemical companies visiting and offering students competitive salaries and benefits. Internship opportunities are open for third year students and job opportunity for final year students

The annual fees (for both semester) including hostel and all charges is Rs. 2,50,000 The reserved category students gets scholarship based on their merit wherein their tuition fees is removed. They have to pay only for hostel which is around Rs. 25000. General category students have no scholarship

Student social life is really enriching and vibrant. There are several clubs and societies for overall enhancement of students personality. Annual technical and cultural fest along with several department fest, symposium and conventions. Sport facilities are amazing and of international standards with an annual sports fest, participation at inter college level and inter IIT level

Hostels are mandatory for students. Hostels have individual mess and are alloted at the time of registration to each students. Rooms are on sharing basis. Food quality is okay but can be improved. Room sizes are a bit small but manageable. Each hostel has gym and some sports facilities

Admission to IIT is through JoSSA portal of NTA after JEE advanced result. I was eligible for Production engineering in IIT Roorkee and Chemical Engineering in IIT Dhanbad. I choose the latter because of the strong curriculum, employability and rich heritage and alumni base of IIT Dhanbad to help in my overall growth and readiness for the industry

Faculties in my department were amazing. They had strong research background, fully versed and thorough with concept and used to teach with great clarity and ease. Each semester has mid term exams and end term exams which along with overall assessment and tutorials make up for the semester wise GPA
