Likes
- The college has an amazing Infrastructure, it is a blend of modern and ancient infrastructure. The institute has all major facilities which includes multiple lecture hall buildings more than 20 well functional hostels and separate departments.
- Amazing alumni support, this institute was earlier known by ISM and is functional since 1926, the alumni support in placements and fests is crazy.
- Sports facility are a wow, you name it and we have it, Squash, cricket, hockey, football, basketball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, athletics, aquatics and much more. Sports enthusiast will love it,
Dislikes
- A stricter administration, they are quite rigid and have non flexible policies,
- Girl to boy ratio isn't that great, their are around 200 girls for 1000 boys
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is very much relevant to modern science and tech. the curriculum will change from department to department but courses such as cryptography, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, image processing, nanoscience and nanoparticles are thought to students.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities to students are available to students on the onset of 3rd years. all major companies like google, Microsoft, amazon, Goldman Sachs , ZS Associates, pwc, DE shaw, TATA, JSW, Accenture, Atlassian, etc come on campus to provide opportunities. most of the interns are provided in tech and software domains. however the opportunites are very limited and only a few students will get it.
Fees and Financial Aid
tuition fees for 1 semester are 130000 so for a year it becomes 1,30,000*2 = 2,60,000 per annum hostel fees are 18,000 per semester, thus for an annum it is 18,000*2 = 36,000. caution fees are 5000. admission fees are also the seat accepting fees one will pay at the JOSSA site i.e. 35,000rs and is balanced in the first semester fees the student will pay. coming to scholarships, there are many from different private entities. the tuition fee is 0 for students from SC and ST backgrounds. additionally, students can get 1/3rd of 2/3rd fee relaxation as per their family income officially by the institute.
Campus Life
Their are tons of clubs at iit ism Dhanbad ranging from music, dance, all sports clubs, dramatics, debating, literature, podcasts, street dancing, robotics, Computer tech clubs and many more. these clubs are official in nature and are supported by college through logistics and funding support. their are 3 whole building dedicated to clubs and student activities.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is ok at IIT Dhanbad. there are 18 hostels and most of them are very old in nature with weak and old buildings, however, all basic facilities are provided which includes a healthy mess, high-speed unlimited wifi, and a student play arena within the hostel. their are some new hostels under construction which will be completed in the next 2 years to enhance student life. comparing the hostel fee of 18000 i can say the hostel facility is very much affordable and a value for money.
Admission
The admission in IITs is through the JOSSA counseling and JEE advanced ranks are used. I preferred IIT Dhanbad over other IITS because of its amazing placement, faculties, facilities, infrastructure, and very strong brand name of ISM and alumni support. At lower ranks i feel IIT Dhanbad is a great choice compared to other generation 2 or generation 3 iits in comparisn to above factors.
Faculty
The faculties at IIT ISM are amazing and wonderful, many are from some of the best institutes from around the world having PhDs and masters from some top global universities. the faculty and student ratio is almost 1:12 which is very good. faculties are active researchers in their domains and have helped many students across their life. they also have industrial connections and organize field/ industrial visits very often.
