What Students Say
Likes
- Among the few things that i like are the lush green campus and the clubs and societies in the campus.Whatever is happening in BIT in terms of fests, cultural events or competitions are most of the times organised by clubs of BIT.
- I like the central library.Although it is not too big.It has a decent number of books and if you want to spend time reading its a good spot.
- The third thing is the canteen which is the best place in the campus.
Dislikes
- Poor infrastructure of the lecture halls. The lecture halls and auditorium have not been renovated from a long time.
- Lack of sport facilities. BIT has no sports facilities other than a cricket and a volleyball ground.
- not big tech fests or cultural fests. There are fests but on a very small scale.
Course Curriculum Overview
The fact that mechanical engineering is one of the best branches in BIT in terms of placements was my #1 reasn to join BIT Mechanical. The carriculum teaces about all the standard subjects relevant to mechanical engineering but I wont be able to tell how relevnt is that infrormation in real life scenarios.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunies are mostly present in the 3rd year from coompanies like ITC , RELIANCE and TATA INSPIRE.These are the paid and reliable scolarship opportunities as they give you an opportunity to obtain PPOs.They are rare but yo have an opportunity to get PPOs in these compnies in the 3rd year itself.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible to sit for placements from the 7th semester.A variety of companies including TATA Steel, JSL, JPL, Samsung, TCS and ABG visit the campus. The highest package offered is to Mining branch by vedanta which is 16.5 lpa.In core branches like mechanical and electrical the placement percentage reaches to almost 80%.
Fees and Financial Aid
I will be dividing this answerr in 2parts the 1st part shall talk about the fee structure for students the 2nd one shall talk about the scolarships offered. Beginning with the 1st year fees for the following categories are as follows GENERAL/OBC/EWS Annual Fee-7732 Student Fund Fee-7600 University registration fees-500 examination Fees-2000(every semester) Hostel fees-7000(annual) Electricity fees-2500(annual) Mess fees-3900(per month) SC/ST Annual Fee-1957 Student fund fee-7600 University registration fee-500 Examination fee-2000(every semester) Hostel fees-7000(annual) Electricity fee-2500(annual) Mess fees-3900(monthly) For girls as well as TFW(Tution fee wavier) students the annual fee is just 32 rupees annually.Students who have annual household income less tha 8lakhs can apply for TFW. Up onwards from 2nd year the student fund fee reduces to 4525 rupees and the university registration fee reduces to nil. About the scolarship opportunities the mjor scolarship opportunities thatb i am aware of are from Siemens FFE Reliance Yashashvi
Campus Life
The primary technical fests around the campus are organised by technical clubs or societies under the umbrella of Tech Mahotsav. The names are TRIVENI,UDBHAV and SANDHAAN. Talking about the cultural fests the only one is Fresher Of The Year, which is a exiting 3 day event. The library is good and spacious and has a viety of booksa vailiable for course study as well as literature. The classrooms have a projector in the centre and thats about it.Sports facilities by the college are bare minimum but if you are into cricjet and vollyball tournaments for them are organised occasionally.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel faculties are mediocere at best. There are solar plates installled so the electricity is 24/7.The mess food for non-vegetarians is acceptable but if you are vegetarian you will have a hard time managing.
Admission
I could have gotten admitted in NIFFT Ranchi and by the 2k24 cut offs I could have gotten BIT mesra Chemical alonwith a plethora of colleges on AKTU or MPDTE counclling.I also qualifies CUET with a decent rank enough to secure a college in the DU south campus. The primary reason I chose this college was the Return on investment.Even withot any fees waiver the entire fee here is close to 4 lakhs for a span of 4 years which is very low compared to the average package of the college.Als the branch Mechanical has a decent scope in the GATE exams. First of all this college is only for the students of Jharkhand. If you wanna get admitted here and belong to the general category you need a percentile from 87 to 94.5.If you are from other categores the cutoff goes even lower. The admission process is quite simple. You fill a form which will ask you for a security deposit of 5000 on the jcece website. After this you will be eleigibke to do choice filling. You will be alloted a branch based of your rank and choice.Forgetting admission you will have to vsit the college annd submit all your documents. You can upgrade your branch in the later rounds. There are 3 rounds and 2 special rounds.
Faculty
There is one professor per subject in theory classes and one prof with teaching assistants together in the labs.the professors are approachable given you are interested in the subject. Some faculties like Manoj Mishra sir from the chemistry department and Ravi Shankar Sir alongwith Sumanta Sir from Production Department are good faculties. There are 2 midsems and 1 endsem per semester. The midsems are easy and the endsems are slightly in the medium difficulty range.
Night Life
Primary hangout spots are The canteen,Nescafe,BKD and Aunty Maggie. They are all in the campus.Outside the campus primary hangout spotsa are the nearby localities names Kandra and Seherpura. There is no worthwhile gym in BIT campus but the local neighbourhoods Kandra and Seherpura havegyms worth joining. The hostel timimg for girls hostel is 8:00 pm. There is literally no nightlife at BIT.Every hangout spot is closed before 9:00 pm.So the only thing you can do is to roam around the campus.
