Major updates in NEET UG 2026 Application Process
Aadhaar-Based eKYC Now Mandatory for NEET 2026
Mandatory Aadhaar-based verification (eKYC) for NEET(UG) 2026 registration is the largest change that took place this year.
NTA is going to authenticate the identity of a candidate on the basis of the Aadhaar-related OTP. The reason behind this move is to make sure that only qualified candidates enrol and appear in the exam.
What students must do:
- Make sure that your Aadhaar is connected to a functional mobile number.
- Make sure that your Aadhaar information is similar to the academic documentation.
- Use your phone to receive OTP during registration.
In case Aadhaar information is inconsistent with your certificates, then you are required to update Aadhaar or carry supporting documents.
Live Photograph Capture Replaces Studio Photos
NTA has removed the option of uploading studio photos. Instead, students must capture a live photo during registration.
Live photo rules:
- Face must cover about 80% of the frame
- Remove your cap, goggles, or glasses
- Use good lighting and a plain background
- Webcam or smartphone can be used (via QR code)
The system will compare your live image with the Aadhaar photo. If there is a mismatch, students should submit a certificate signed by a Gazetted Officer or School Principal.
Exam City Allotment Based on Address
Exam city allocation will now be based on the candidate’s:
- Present address
- Permanent address
This step is expected to reduce travel difficulties and improve exam logistics.
