SC Hearing On NEET 2024: Snippet

A bench headed by the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Manoj Misra, and Justice JB Pardiwala on Thursday stated that any order directing the re-NEET UG, 2024 has to be issued on a concrete footing indicating the sanctity of the exam in its entirety was largely affected. Together they addressed a batch of petitions pertaining to the all-India Medical Entrance Examination held on May 5 that was taken by 23,33,297 candidates across 4,750 centers in 571 cities.

As a responsible move, CJI Chandrachud decided to adjourn the cases listed ahead of the controversial NEET UG pleas and opened the case today stating that “Lakhs of young students are waiting for this, let us hear and decide.” He assured cancellation of the examination only if proven that the paper leak had led to greater damage.“You have to show us that the leak was so systemic and affected the entire examination to warrant the cancellation of the entire exam” quoted the CJI.

The court ordered NTA, the testing agency for NEET, to declare the city-wise and center-wise results by noon on July 20. Meanwhile, NTA has informed the SC about its decision to begin the NEET Counselling 2024 on July 24. The process will be carried out by the Medical Counselling Committee for MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing courses, while Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee will conduct the counselling for BAMS, BHMS, BSMS, and BUMS courses. MCC has already issued a notice asking medical colleges to provide their seat matrix on its official portal.

What Did The Center-NTA Say In The Affidavit?
