Purdue University FAQs
Ques. Does Purdue University require GRE for MS Computer Science admission?
Ans. GRE is officially listed as recommended, not required, for most Purdue engineering and CS graduate programs. However, competitive departments like MS Computer Science expect strong GRE scores in practice, with successful applicants often reporting quantitative scores above 165. Indian applicants without a GRE score should offset with strong undergraduate GPA, research experience or publications. Verify current-year requirements on your target department’s admissions page.
Ques. What is the application fee for Purdue University international applicants?
Ans. The Purdue graduate school application fee for international applicants is $75 per program application. Undergraduate applicants pay $60 through the Common Application. Fee waivers are limited and generally awarded through participation in specific outreach programs. Indian students should budget for one paid application per target program and pay via international debit or credit card at the time of submission.
Ques. How can Indian students find on-campus jobs at Purdue University?
Ans. F-1 visa holders at Purdue University may work up to 20 hours per week on campus during regular semesters and full-time during breaks. Common roles include research assistant, teaching assistant, library assistant and dining services. JobX is Purdue’s central campus jobs portal, and international students should activate their profile within the first two weeks of arrival to maximise chances.
Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for Purdue?
Ans. SBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Bank of Baroda all list Purdue on their approved-institutions lists for education loans. Loan amounts up to ₹1.5 crore are commonly sanctioned without collateral for engineering and business master’s programs. Interest rates typically range from 9% to 12%, with moratorium periods extending through the course plus six months.
Ques. Can Indian students transfer credits from an Indian university to Purdue?
Ans. Purdue evaluates undergraduate transfer credits from Indian institutions on a course-by-course basis. Applicants must submit official transcripts and syllabus copies for each course they wish to transfer. The Office of Admissions or the individual college handles the evaluation, and Indian engineering credits typically transfer with reasonable acceptance. B.Tech students moving to a Purdue Bachelor’s should expect at most two years of credit acceptance.
Ques. What is the transcript verification process for Purdue?
Ans. Purdue requires Indian applicants to submit official transcripts directly from their institutions. For graduate applications, the university typically accepts transcripts uploaded to the online portal at the application stage, with certified originals required only after admission is granted. WES course-by-course evaluation is not universally required but is recommended for competitive programs to convert the Indian grading scale accurately.
Ques. What documents does Purdue require for I-20 issuance for Indian students?
Ans. Purdue’s International Students and Scholars office requires several documents for I-20 issuance after admission. Indian applicants must submit a copy of the passport bio page, a financial affidavit showing at least one year of tuition plus living costs, an official bank statement or loan sanction letter, and a completed international student form. Processing typically takes about two to four weeks after all documents are received.
Ques. Is there a Duolingo English Test option for Purdue University applicants?
Ans. Yes. Purdue University accepts the Duolingo English Test with a minimum score of 115 for graduate applicants and typically higher scores for undergraduate applicants. The DET is a cheaper and faster alternative to IELTS or TOEFL, with results available within 48 hours of the test. Indian applicants short on IELTS test dates can use Duolingo as a valid substitute, but confirm departmental preferences before booking.

- Very diverse crowd, but one thing is common, everyone is highly career-focused
- Isolated college town, away from city life, so safe as well.
- State-of-the-art technology to teach students.
Campus Life
- Amazing, very wholesome campus, a lot of clubs and extracurricular activities happening on campus regularly. Around 6 different libraries, the biggest student gym in the country.
Fees
- I think tuition fees are around 16,500 to 19,000 $ per semester, and apart from that, with rent you need 1200-1400 $ per month as living costs.
Likes
- Labs and research focus of academics is at par with world's best. Access to all the software that you would need as a student and future professional.
Dislikes
- Number of companies for international student is very less, there is no dedicated initiative for international student for finding jobs.
Campus Life
- There are more than 100 student clubs at Purdue and 7 student organisations for Indian international students.
Fees
- 15k per semester/1000 per credit, whichever is lower
Likes
- Course Curriculum is designed based on the market which has high demand like cyber security, Software Development, AI and Data Science, Robotics, and Game Programming
- All the courses are affordable, especially Health Insurance comes with Good deal cause medical costs are expensive in USA.
- If we are getting bored we can go around the Down Town where it is located at the bank of the river Chattahoochee, enjoying the nature, and we can explore the beauty of Columbus city in Georgia with free of cost because University provides free shuttle as it has another campus located in down town.
Dislikes
- The thing that I don't like is that the Computer Science building still needs some upgrades especially the Computer Lab and also air-conditioning system.
- I don't like the food in the canteen.
- Recently they have made the account section where we can pay our college bills and all which is not good it nearly takes us hours to pay our fee.
Campus Life
- 2 campuses, one in the down town, which is called the riverside campus and the main campus is in the centre of the city, exit-7. We have a Columbus Indian community recently started a year ago so they usually conduct a few events and celebrate festivals as well.
- Extracurricular activities like our university is one of best in baseball game we have a team named the Cougars; it is the 2007 champions, I am not sure. For every special day, students will conduct events usually it happens every month .
Fees
- It's based on course, mostly like 1450$ per course and also we will have health insurance around 1500$ per semester. The total, I mean the entire master's degree, it costs like 25k USD. So total we have 30 credits if don't get GA and 3 courses per semester we must have to take as a foreign student in the first 3 semesters for maintaining the status. Each semester would cost like 6500$*4 for a total of 26k.
- If we get GA, we need to pay only 1500$ from health insurance, which is only per semester, so for 4 semesters it costs like 6000$ and 33 credits, where we must do a thesis if we get GA in the Computer Science Department for those 3 extra credits we will get.

- All the above mentioned facilities are available in all the campuses libraries are huge and available all the time. Sports plus on campus gym and dedicated medical area for services.
- There are many technical flagship events and all global festivals are celebrated in the university every year.
Fees
- Each course is worth 3 credits and each course is approximately $3000. The minimum credits for international students are 9 credits only student with assistantship can have a minimum of 6 credits each semester.
- The fee charged is semesterly based on the credits you have registered plus exam fees, library fees, and resources.
- Monthly $500 to $600; rent approx. $400 off campus and on campus is $600. Food and grocery $200 per month is enough.

- I appreciate how everyone is part of everything and you rarely see campus empty unless it is during break.
Dislikes
- I dislike how some of the buildings are much older and need repairs.
- I understand that they want to keep some history, but at certain points these damages can hurt students.
Overview
I chose this initially for the nursing program but changed my mind. I knew this college was a great school in general, especially well-known for engineering. I decided to stick to the psychology program since it was most interesting to me. I definitely think that the campus is very diverse and that there are a lot of opportunities for students to really find what they are in college for. There are many avenues that students can connect with other students on and several resources that are typically free of charge.
Campus Life
There are several clubs and facilities available for students. There is a fitness facility that is free for all students and several organizations that cater to different interests.

"Yes, 3 LOR. Academic LORs are fine. If had a work experience you can also submit lor from your manager. SOP - mentioned why I want to do masters and how it will add value to my future, my skills and accomplishments. Resume /CV with all education, work exp, awards" One of the best universities for specialization in operations research It's quite exciting and challenging. Have to balance between academics and non academic stuff. Helps in learning task management and prioritization.
Campus Life
There are lot of events happening every day in and around campus. There are many clubs from academic, anime to sports.
Overview
I chose this program for the engineering ranking and the fact that Purdue is a well known name. My overall experience has been very good academically. purdue is a bit boring and not a party school since many students here are engineering students. The quality of education is extremely good though.
Campus Life
Lots of clubs to choose from that are often promoting themselves and recruiting new members. Student union often holds lots of fun events for students that are free. Could use more libraries on campus for student study spaces. CoRec (sports facility) is well funded and has lots of equipment and classes offered.

- "It is the best among my admits. The Electrical and Computer Engineering department is in Top 10. The fee is considerably lower as it is a public university and cost of living is lower. Excellent coursework and research."
- "Lots of efforts has been made to design the coursework that gives tightly coupled theoretical and practical knowledge and skills. Huge campus with lots of facilities. Very good administration."
Dislikes
- Not much. Its the weather that can get rough. Its mostly cold (less than 10 C) and in Jan/Feb it goes upto -25 C.
Overview
Its very good. Purdue has a strong reputation that helps from Visa interviews to placements.
Campus Life
There are hundreds of clubs covering almost everything. For example, Archipelago Music Club, running club, Wall Climbing Club, Star Wars Club, Indian Association, etc. The infrastructure is excellent. Its huge with big libraries, full wifi connectivity, and a huge Sports center. There is career guidance center, mental health counseling, health center, etc and all of these are free for full time students.
