I chose this program for the engineering ranking and the fact that Purdue is a well known name. My overall experience has been very good academically. purdue is a bit boring and not a party school since many students here are engineering students. The quality of education is extremely good though.
Course Curriculum
Course syllabus/catalog is updated every school year. Research opportunities or other extra learning opportunities are offered regularly, whether that be seminars or new classes offered. Curriculum is updated to match current technology, such as how my Intro to AI class has been adjusted since ChatGPT has been introduced.
Faculty
I believe faculty to student ratio is quite low, which is good. Professors are mostly very helpful, and most are approachable. Almost all professors are well versed and I can say very qualified for their roles. Some specific professors are Prof. Max Rees and Prof. Michael Melloch.
Campus Life
Lots of clubs to choose from that are often promoting themselves and recruiting new members. Student union often holds lots of fun events for students that are free. Could use more libraries on campus for student study spaces. CoRec (sports facility) is well funded and has lots of equipment and classes offered.
Placement
Many companies visit during career fairs. The biggest career fair, Industrial Roundtable, hosts over 200 companies every year. Large big name companies like Tesla and google come here often to recruit students.
Accommodation
My first year I lived in a dorm with one other roommate. The cost was about $850 per month. I now live off campus, and cost of rent has skyrocketed. The biggest con of purdue, would not recommend if you are trying to save on cost of living. My rent has increased from $710 to $1000 in just one year, landlords are extremely greedy in this area and many students are struggling to find affordable housing.
Exams
My SAT: 1460/1600, taken in 2019 and 2020 same score. GPA 3.9/4.0. PSAT: 1360/1520 in 2018. No other texts or exams were taken besides state standardized tests, not used for applications.
Fees
About $20000 per semester including meals and housing
