The college has opportunities of scholarships for students have family income less than 10 lakhs and the college is great helper in these cases
Computer engineering students enjoy excellent placement opportunities, whereas for other branch students, there are fewer companies specifically in the core biotechnology sector.
The campus infrastructure is one of the best thing, it's pretty, filled with beautiful buildings, comfortable classes fully air conditioned, greenery all around sports complex running lanes, during winters and autumn the weather is so pleasant here.

Dislikes

I understand that there is a placement cell available here, but recently, the placements have not been very good.
Some teachers are not good at teaching and problem here to to find a rrsouce to study the topic
Fees is very high here which is the worst part here .

Thapar University Review by a CS student from batch 2024

Placement Experience:

Companies start visiting in the end of 2nd year for summer internships. Some students get PPO in those internships only while some have to reapply for full-time roles. The 6th and 7th sem is full of internship and placement opportunities where you need to appear for OA, Coding rounds and interview rounds to get into a company. The average package is around 8-9LPA. Almost 90-95% students get placed on campus. More companies should be brought on campus for better opportunities.

placement is good plus we have a placement cell which takes care of all the internships and job opportunities coming for us and they will keep a check whther you are good in your resume and will focus on overall profile building.

An experience with mix feelings

Likes

Hostel Life was superb, average campus size, Sports grounds, CS labs
Library is a good place to hangout with friends
Sports facilities are decent with enough sports equipments

Dislikes

There is no transparency in placements and one needs to mail for results.
No practical resources provided to students
Professors are teaching outdated courses

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is the worst part of my college Computer Engineering students need to learn chapters like Manufacturing Processes, Engineering Design i.e Mangonel and I don't know how will it help in industries. In my entire 4 years, there was no subject for javascript, instead they provide the options between ML/AI, AWS and full stack. But Javascript should be introduced as a general elective. Exams are conducted intensively MId sems, end sems, 2 sessionals, 2 lab evaluations and 2 vivas, making the life of the student harder.

The campus provide good infrastructure and environment for study. The college has full Wi-Fi campus and beautiful garden area.
Hostels are well furnished and have gym facility. The mess food quality is very good and also have night canteens facility.
Faculty is experienced and well qualified.

Placement Experience:

In PhD, there are not many company placement opportunities. The placement cell of the university is very hard-working and active and provides every opportunity to the students. Majorly after PhD degree, most of the students go for teaching jobs.

Honest REVIEW of Thapar University

Likes

Thapar university has a strong reputation for its academic programs, esp engineering and technology
Numerous number of clubs,societies and events that create a lively campus atmosphere.
Campus is well-equipped with advanced facilities.

Dislikes

Tuition fees and other costs are quite high.
Heavy workload and constant push to excel in exams.
Room for improvement in terms of industry exposure.

Placement Experience:

Placements at Thapar University are good. almost 80% of students are placed easily. Companies like Samsung, Apple, Crompton Greaves etc visit the campus. My plan is to write the GATE exam and further go for government jobs.

College Theory

Likes

The college is good. First I would start by the hostels they are really good. AC hostels are there.
Secondly I would say the campus is great.
Classes are fully AC which makes it easy to study and lab facilities are also great.

Dislikes

Fees is too much for per semester and that's too much.
They don't consider about the people who live outside punjab.
It's more of wrote learning rather than practical.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would say course is good. It covers all tge aspects from basic to advance level. Though I feel sometimes that the course structure from the start should be more placement oriented rather than school oriented. Exams happen regularly.

A bit Expensive but worth it in the long run

Likes

The coding culture is quite active. Everyone is building things.
Vibrant Events and The Campus is very beautiful.
The faculty is very experienced and highly qualified.

Dislikes

High pressure during exam time and fierce competition.

Placement Experience:

Placements are pretty good. Companies start arriving from 4th Semester onwards. Big MNCs like JP Morgan, American Express, BNY Mellon, Apple come for On Campus Recruitment. Highest Package is 1.2Cr from Rubrik.

College campus is really beautiful and lively
Society and clubs are very active and helpful for grooming your personality
Professors are highly qualified as most of them have done their PhDs from IIT

Dislikes

Batch size is increasing year by year and only COE has 800 students
Fees of thapar is very high and increasing year by year
Introduction of new branches for more student intake like RAI , AIML, etc

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for placements in third and fourth year. And big companies like google, Microsoft, Sap, amazon etc visits the campus. And the average package that get offered here is around 12 Lpa for computer related branches and overall it is 9-10 LPA. Thapar is also good for mechanical engineering as it has good labs and big companies like Hero, LnT etc visits here for the placements.

Thapar University has a brand name, however, the ground reality for this university is not very pleasant and it is swiftly losing the qualities that defined it in its glorious past. The rankings of students enrolled in the university are going down each year. The administration is taking serious measures against the same, however, because of these measures the other students are suffering. One example is the strict entry and exit timings.

Academically, your experience in this institution will differ according to your branch. The CSE branch has a cooperative faculty and lenient attendance criteria. This is not the case for other branches. In other branches, some faculty members may hold personal grudges against you while some may fail you for missing the required attendance mark (75%) by as small as 0.1%. The mess is below average and the classrooms are not very impressive. The administration is very slow.

However, there are positive points about Thapar University as well. The alumni from Thapar are placed in some of the best companies in India and abroad. It has some of the best synthetic courts in any engineering college in India. There are many teachers at Thapar University who serve as a source of inspiration to their students. Sports facilities for all the major sports are great. Placements at Thapar University are great and the labs are well updated. Even though Thapar is facing a drug problem, its teachers and administration are very active in trying to solve this issue.

Thus, even though Thapar University has outlived its glorious days, it has some positive points too. It is completely your choice whether or not you wish to take admission into it.

Thapar University has better placements than most private colleges and NITs. But the problem is, placements here directly depend on the grades of the students, and only the serious ones who work hard to build their profile bag the best packages.

Now the reviews of students are mixed because not everyone invests the same efforts and bags high packages. The people giving bad reviews are the ones who did not build their resumes well.

The best thing about Thapar University is the level of freedom you get to experience here. However, the increasing intake is slowly deteriorating the student quality so you might want to consider this before joining.
