Remarks

The merit list was announced based on 2 factors: 12th basis and JEE results. For general outside Punjab , the cut off for CS was high around 94% For general inside Punjab, it was less. And similarly for other categories, outside Punjab cut off was Higher than inside Punjab candidates. The application form comes around Feb - March and you have to fill the same. They ask for your preferences about course you want to enroll in and assign you one based on your marks and seats left.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course is designed in such a way that will help you directly or indirectly in future. Practical sessions are compulsory so that you don't become a bookworm. Necessary slides, recorded lectures, and PDFs are provided by each lecturer for self study. The knowledge gained is applied in my current internship also, so it is safe to say that curriculum is good. Sessional quiz, mid semester exam, final semester exam and lab exams are taken continuously for knowledge checking in students. The exams are from pdf and ppts shared by teachers.

Internships Opportunities

4

Many companies like Apple, ION, Accenture, Amadeus , Airtel, JP Morgan, Genpact, etc. visit the campus for internship and placements. Good amount of students are taken and PPO rate is also good. The process includes resume shortlisting, online test, coding test, tech interview, HR interview and then you are selected. You need to make decent cg of 7+ for crossing cut off in some companies but 8+ for good companies. Some companies even have cut off of 8.5 or 9.

Placement Experience

4.5

Companies start visiting in the end of 2nd year for summer internships. Some students get PPO in those internships only while some have to reapply for full-time roles. The 6th and 7th sem is full of internship and placement opportunities where you need to appear for OA, Coding rounds and interview rounds to get into a company. The average package is around 8-9LPA. Almost 90-95% students get placed on campus. More companies should be brought on campus for better opportunities.

Fees and Financial Aid

Good amount of students are provided scholarships in their 1st year itself depending on their 12th results. The students who perform well in their academics are rewarded scholarship accordingly and they are adjusted in their tution fee. College keeps updating students on other scholarship from govt etc. by mails. The tution fee increases every year for each course. The hostel fee remains same for atleast 2 years and then increases around 1-2 k only. As a student from batch of 2024, I completed the 4 years in about 25lakhs including hostel, academic, travel, food, laundry, etc.

Campus Life

4.5

Many clubs and societies are there on campus that work for social cause, technical, sports, and cultural upliftment. Many hackathons and technical sessions are planned by societies for student engagement and knowledge sharing. Many goodies and prizes are distributed to participants and winners. You can also join non profitable societies for helping out social causes, teaching underprivileged kids, etc. You can also be a part of councelling cell at the University. The Library at campus is considered as one of the best libraries in India with around 1lakh books and huge sitting arrangements. The structure is beautiful and furniture is also good.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel facilities are provided with good furniture and beautiful rooms. Around 60K per semester is spent for a good hostel. Mess will take around 22k per semester. Laundry facilities are included in this payment. Mess area is beautifullu designed and food served is okay. Somedays it is not up to the mark so you have to eat outside or order food.

Faculty

4

There are plenty of teachers and staff including the PhD scholars in the campus. The staff is supportive and ready to help you at any point of time. You can easily find their contact details on college website and either mail or call them for any help. They also have respected cabins assigned where you can physically visit them.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
