Course Curriculum Overview

3

COE is the oldest and most renowned course of thapar. they equally emphasise on personality development subjects. the curriculum is hectic, but not impossible to crack. frequency of exams is same as any other institution, ie , MST after 2 months of commencement of semester, and EST after another 1.5 - 2 months

Internships Opportunities

4

i am not quite sure of that as i am just a UG 1 student but i believe that this is more a personal deed than institutional, be it a TIER 1 or a TIER 3 college. only your skills will help you crack a good internship.

Placement Experience

4

i dont have much idea about this as of now, but have seen many seniors booking a GD room for themselves in the library where the appeared for online interviews and company tests. also, have heard many seniors being placed in amazon,JSW, accenture, google, like companies with an average package of 12 - 15 LPA.

Fees and Financial Aid

in first sem you pay tuition fee and admission fee according to your course category(A or B). second sem onwards you pay only tuition fee admission fee is around 30000 sem fee is 297500 as of 2025 number of scholarships are provided, including merit based, family income based, organisations and alumni collaborative.

Campus Life

5

campus life, for people looking for love, and for people in love is really beautiful. the only con for singles is that they get reminded of their singlehood at every corner of thapar as they can sight lovebirds everywhere. other than that, there are many tech and non tech societies. there is always some or the other event going on on society as well as institute level. so good campus life is a big big pro of thapar

Hostel Facilities

5

hostels are fab you ll feel like you are living in hotels great hostels great housekeeping services, every service is top notch. the only issue is wifi or connection issues. but caretakers , though strict to rules, but really supportive and friendly.

Admission

i got selected to VIT vellore , but as i belong to punjab, and the level of VIT and TIET is the same, i preffered TIET i could even get a lower branch at NITJ (95%ile), but i did not want to compromise on my branch. admission process - you fill up an online form where you fill hostel preferances (like branch and college preferances in JoSAA) from thr options of hostels available for you (J, H, FRF and FRG for boys, I G E and PG for girls). you come here acc to time slot given to you acc to your percentile or boards percentage you are called into the main audi you get alloted a hostel there you fill up some forms, pay the mess fee, hostel fee and course fee in there go to hostel get your room keys and mess card issued then setup your room

Faculty

3

faculty members are really skilled and educated. but, not everyone is collaborative. some are short tempered, some are cool, some are easily available, some are not. so, its a luck who mentors you. exams are unpredictable. sometimes they are really easy, at other times they are difficult. but the advantage is that the marking scheme is not absolute. so a difficult paper will have an A cut at very low marks, and vice versa.

Night Life

4

nightlife is strict. no entry through main gate after 8 and hostel curfew at 8 30 for both boys and girls before curfew, the color of night life is almost RED at the central park. despite that, the campus looks beautiful and fun with friends in the night as much as it does in the day.

The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
