The NIT Surathkal Cutoff 2026 for admission to various courses will be based on entrance exams like JEE Main, GATE, CSAB, DASA. After the exams, seats are allocated through counselling processes conducted by authorities like JoSAA and CSAB. In 2025, the most competitive program was B.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering) with a closing rank of 1,528 for the General category, while B.Tech (Mining Engineering) had the lowest cutoff at 25,160. Candidates preparing for the 2026 admission cycle should expect the cutoffs to remain high for top courses like B.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering), B.Tech (Artificial Intelligence), B.Tech (Information Technology).

Looking at the past cutoff trends shows how the competition has changed. For example, the closing rank for B.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering) changed from 1,423 in 2024 to 1,528 in 2025. Students can check the complete category-wise (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS) and round-wise seat allotment data below to find their safe score.

NIT Surathkal Cutoff Overview: Quick Highlights

  • Highest Cutoff: B.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering) was the most demanded branch, closing at 1,528 rank in the General category. Students aiming for this course need a top-tier score.
  • Lowest Cutoff: B.Tech (Mining Engineering) had the lowest entry requirement, closing at 25,160 rank. This indicates the minimum score required to enter the institute through the General category.
  • Admission Process: Seat allocation is managed entirely by JoSAA and CSAB, based strictly on the candidate's entrance exam performance.
  • Target Score for 2026: To secure a seat in the upcoming admission cycle, General category students should target a rank between 1,528 and 25,160.

How many marks are needed for an OBC 3B category to qualify for the NIT Surathkal?

Gopali NarayanB.Tech Chemical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2023)

It is important to note that there is not any category division such as 3A, 3B, etc in the JOSAA counseling procedures. Only the OBC term is considered for all.

One of my friends is studying at NIT Surathkal and he got around 140-150 marks in JEE Main, his rank was around 50k in CRL, and around 13k in the OBC category. He got a seat in NIT Surathkal in Chemical ranch in Special rounds of JOSAA Counselling. He had secured a percentile of around 95.5.

If you want to get into any branch of NIT Surathkal, then you should try to score a minimum of 95% in JEE Mains in being on the safer side. For that, at least 150+ marks should be scored. With this score, one can surely get into NIT Surathkal. If you want a circuit branch then they should try scoring more marks.
