NIMCET 2026 (NIT MCA Common Entrance Test) was held on June 6, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in computer-based test (CBT) mode at designated exam centres across India. NIT Tiruchirappalli is coordinating the exam this year on behalf of 11 participating NITs and 2 IIITs offering the two-year MCA programme.

NIT Trichy has released the NIMCET 2026 provisional answer key on 10 June 2026 at 10:00 AM on its official website – nimcet.admissions.nic.in/. Candidates can download their answer keys by using their User ID and Password.

• The NIMCET 2026 result is expected by June 29, followed by counselling registration from June 30 to July 3.
• Round 1 seat allotment is likely in the first week of July, with around 1,300 MCA seats across 13 institutes available through the counselling process.

With around 1,300 MCA seats at stake, NIMCET is one of the most sought-after postgraduate entrance exams for computer applications in India.

What is NIMCET 2026?

NIMCET stands for NIT MCA Common Entrance Test. It is a national-level entrance exam for admission to the two-year Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme at the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). The exam is conducted once a year, and the coordinating institute rotates among the participating NITs. For 2026, NIT Tiruchirappalli (NIT Trichy) is the coordinating body.

NIMCET tests candidates on Mathematics, Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, and General English. The exam is computer-based and conducted in a single shift. Around 1,300 MCA seats are available across 11 NITs and 2 IIITs, making it one of the most competitive postgraduate computer science entrance exams in India.

NIMCET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the NIMCET 2026 eligibility criteria to appear in the exam and later secure admission. The criteria cover your educational background, minimum marks, and nationality. Candidates in their final year of the qualifying degree in 2026 were also allowed to apply provisionally.

Educational Qualification

You must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in one of the following disciplines:

• B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) with Mathematics or Statistics as a subject at the graduate level
• BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) with Mathematics or Statistics at the 10+2 level or at the graduate level
• BIT or equivalent degree with Mathematics or Statistics
• B.E. / B.Tech from a recognised university or institution

Students appearing in their final year degree examinations in 2026 were eligible to apply. Their admission remains provisional until they submit their qualifying mark sheets and prove they meet the criteria.

Minimum Marks Required

The percentage is calculated across all years of the bachelor’s degree, including language papers, optional papers, and electives. No conversion between CGPA and percentage is allowed for this calculation.

Age Limit and Nationality

There is no upper or lower age limit for NIMCET 2026. Only Indian nationals can apply. There is no provision for foreign nationals or NRI candidates.

If you applied provisionally as a final year student, your admission will be cancelled if your final results show you do not meet the eligibility criteria. Submit your mark sheets on time when reporting to the allotted institute.

Step-by-Step Registration Process

• Step 1: New Registration — Visit the official website and click "New Registration." Enter your name, email ID, and mobile number to get a system-generated User ID and Password.
• Step 2: Fill the Application Form — Log in and fill in your personal details, academic qualifications, and exam city preferences carefully.
• Step 3: Upload Documents — Upload your passport-size photograph, signature, and required academic documents in the specified format and size.
• Step 4: Pay Application Fee — Pay the non-refundable application fee online using debit card, credit card, UPI, or net banking.
• Step 5: Submit and Save — Preview the complete application form, submit it, and save the confirmation page and application number for future use.

NIMCET 2026 Syllabus

The NIMCET 2026 syllabus covers four subjects. Mathematics has the highest weightage and is the most challenging. You should know the detailed syllabus for each section to plan your preparation effectively and avoid spending time on out-of-scope topics.

Mathematics (50 Questions — 200 Marks)

Mathematics is the most important section. It covers topics from Class 11 and 12 NCERT level plus undergraduate topics. Key areas include:

• Set Theory and Logic: Sets, subsets, union, intersection, difference, Venn diagrams, relations, functions, truth tables, tautology, contradiction
• Algebra: Quadratic equations with real coefficients, roots and coefficients, matrices, determinants, simultaneous linear equations, permutations, combinations, binomial theorem, indices, logarithms, progressions (AP, GP, HP)
• Coordinate Geometry: Cartesian coordinates, straight lines, intersection of lines, circles, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, section formula, tangents and normals

This section tests your speed and reasoning ability under time pressure. Common topics include:

NIMCET 2026 Admit Card

The NIMCET 2026 admit card was released on May 27, 2026, on the official portal. Candidates needed to carry a printed admit card to today’s exam centre. No candidate was allowed to enter the exam hall without a valid admit card and a photo ID proof.

NIMCET 2026 Answer Key

The NIMCET 2026 answer key has not been released yet. Since the exam is happening today (June 6, 2026), the provisional answer key is expected in the 2nd week of June 2026. In 2025, NIT Trichy released the provisional answer key within 7–10 days of the exam. Once released, you can use it to calculate your estimated score before the official result comes out.

How to Calculate Your Estimated Score Using the Answer Key

Once the answer key is out, use this formula: Estimated Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 4) − (Number of Wrong Answers × 1). Questions not attempted carry no marks and no penalty.

How to Challenge the NIMCET 2026 Answer Key

If you find an incorrect answer in the provisional key, you can raise a challenge online through the portal within the specified window. To challenge:

• Pay any applicable challenge fee per question, as announced by NIT Trichy

NIT Trichy will review all valid objections. If an objection is accepted, the final answer key and result will be updated accordingly. In 2025, the challenge window was open for about 3–4 days after the provisional key release.

The biggest challenge in NIMCET is balancing Mathematics depth with Analytical Ability speed, while keeping Computer Awareness and English accurate.

Mathematics — Most Important Section (200 Marks, 70 Minutes)

Mathematics carries 42% of the total marks and demands the most preparation time. Spend about 50–60% of your total study hours on this section. Focus on:

• Build your base with NCERT Class 11 and 12 Mathematics textbooks before moving to advanced material
• Practice calculus daily — limits, integration, and maxima-minima are the most frequently tested topics
• Coordinate geometry and probability are high-yield — practice at least 20 problems per topic
• Solve past NIMCET Mathematics papers under timed conditions to build speed
• In 2025, the calculus and probability sections were particularly lengthy — build both accuracy and pace

Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning — Speed Matters (160 Marks, 30 Minutes)

You get just 30 minutes for 40 questions — that is 45 seconds per question. Speed and pattern recognition are key. Build these skills by:

With just 10 questions, this is the easiest section to master. Target full marks consistently:

• Build vocabulary with 10 new synonyms and antonyms daily from a word list
• Practice reading comprehension passages of 150–200 words for speed and accuracy

Overall Preparation Strategy
