Eligibility Criteria

A candidate to be eligible for the MTech program:

Must have a valid GATE score for that respective year.
In qualifying degree, the candidates should have passed and secured at least a 6.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 60% for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC, whereas 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 55% in the case of SC/ST/PwD candidates. The above-mentioned CGPA/Percentage should be awarded by a recognized University/Institute.
Only the primary mode of evaluation (CGPA or percentage) as mentioned in the qualifying degree certificate/mark sheet shall be considered while verifying eligibility. In case both CGPA and percentage are mentioned, then only CGPA would be considered.
Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice versa given by an individual Institute/university will not be allowed.
If CGPA is on a different scale than the 10-point scale, then it would be linearly mapped to a 10-point scale.

External candidates and full time sponsored candidates need to produce a Sponsorship Certificate from his employer and submit it along with the application.
Such candidates are not entitled for Institute’s Scholarship.
Selection for M.Tech (Research) in some of the specializations is done on the basis of at least 70% weightage to GATE score and remaining 30% weightage to academic performance in qualifying exam or/ and written aptitude test or/ and Interview.
M.Tech (Sponsored) are selected based on the academic performance in qualifying exam or/ and written aptitude test or/ and Interview. Also, candidates must have minimum 2 years of work experience in the Sponsoring organization.

Honest NITK MTech life.

Course curriculum is not that much updated only 2 3 subjects are relevant others simply waste of time

Fees and Financial Aid:

Actually fees is too high. In first semester I paid around 1,10,000 for college and hostel and this is too much. Around 3.6lac fees I have to pay in 2yr course. I am getting scholarship from gate 12400 per month. To get scholarship everyday we have to give biometric and maximum 30 leave we can take in a year. In my campus 2 banks are there and we can get easily loan

Which is better Mtech biotechnology at VIT or Mtech industrial biotechnology at NIT Surathkal?

First, you should decide which course you want to pursue Mtech in biotechnology or Mtech in industrial biotechnology as that would help in comparing institutes and choose the one with the better program.

VIT is considered to be the best colleges to pursue Mtech biotechnology due to the excellent consistency it has obtained with the placement rate and the strong conceptual foundation offered to the students along with hands-on experience.

On the other hand, NIT Surathkal is one of the leading NITs in India and offers quality education in Industrial Biotechnology.

NIRF has ranked VIT and NIT Surathkal at 15 and 13 respectively for BTech.

Admission:

VIT takes admission for MTech Biotechnology based on VITMEE or GATE score. The required eligibility is BE/BTech or MSc in related discipline with 60% aggregate marks. The total fee for the MTech Biotechnology program at VIT is 2.99 lakh.
On the other hand, NIT Surathkal takes admission for MTech through GATE. The prerequisite for admission is BTech in a related field with a minimum of 55% marks. The total fee for MTech Industrial Biotechnology in NIT Surathkal is 2.48 lakhs.
