We have semester wise fee structure. My parents income is less than 1Lakh so i dont need to pay Tution fees. Apart from that we have one time fees like Institute Admission fee, Security Deposity (refundable), NITK Alma Mater Endowment, Convocation fee. We also give Development fees for 1st and 2nd sem only (1st year only). Some of the fees like Career Development fee, Health Care Facility, Students Activities Fees, Campus Amenties, Group Insurance Coverage of Students are to paid only for odd-sems.And apart from than we have mess fee,hostel fee and library resourse fee to paid for every sem.For scholarships students can actually check int the nitk website. If a students family income is less than 1LPA are eligible to get full remission on tution fees, and if it is between 1LPA-5LPA 60% of fee will be removed(they need to pay only 40% of tution fee).

I paid 125000 for year 1 which does not mess hostel fee. Hostel fee is 12000 and lab fee, caution fee and other compulsory fee cost 6000. For ews category if your income is below 5 lakhs you have to pay only 1/3 of the fee and there will be no fee for ews category with income below 1lakh. For sc st there will be fee consestion

Since it is a government college the tuition fee for the first year is a total of 1.4 lakhs. After this each semester fees is dependent on the course opted. For a mechanical degree every odd sem is nearly 70000 while an even semester fee is 80000.

Some departments are very strict and very ambiguous in their curriculum. Its difficult to score good marks at such situations.

Since it is a government institution. The fees charged is nominal and very affordable with exemptions for reservation students. Its about a lakh a year for others, and even that is less than most colleges in the country

The mechanical department at NIT Surathkal is hands down the best among most of the NITS and some of the new IITs as well. Given below is some of the information regarding the Mechanical department in NIT Surathkal.

Pros:

You also find some of the extremely competitive and hard-working peer groups in the college.
There are also some of the Tech Clubs like NITK Racing Team. The teams are really good for the Mechanical students if they want to develop more skills. This team has also been credited for building one of India’s lightest FS cars. NITK Racing Team has been considered to be the Best Asian team in FS Hungary and it was also the only team that participated in FS China representing India.

Cons:

According to few reviews, the syllabus of Mechanical Engineering is at NIT Surathkal is outdated. However, it is the same with most of the institutes.

You should read more about the college and its curriculum before coming to any conclusion.

If you are inclined towards Mechanical Engineering, you must opt for NITK. If you are more into coding IIEST must be your choice.
Another factor to look for if you are not that specific about the branch to study is the institute's proximity to your home.
