Scope after Masters in Clinical Psychology in UK

One of the most important things to note is that mere completion of a masters in clinical psychology does not qualify you for clinical practice in the UK. For a career as an independent practicing clinical psychologist, you will need to have a minimum of three years of a doctorate in clinical psychology which is HCPC (Health Care Professionals Council) approved.

However, this does not mean that you cannot work at all. With a master's degree, you can apply for assisting roles like assistant psychologists or work under a practicing clinical psychologist. You can choose to study further and pursue a doctorate degree in clinical psychology in UK. It is suggested to choose courses approved/accredited by BPS.

  • You are required to have a first-class honors master's degree in clinical psychology.

  • Trainee clinical psychologist- 30,400 GBP a year
  • With experience, one can earn around 40,000 GBP to 50,000 GBP a year.
  • Consultant psychologist- 67,000 to 80,000 GBP.

Note: NHS pays a 20% salary supplement to clinical psychologists in London, 15% for outer London, and 5% for fringe areas.
