Cambridge offers a range of popular courses, including Economics, Management, Computer Science, Engineering, and Law. One of its most sought-after programs is the Judge Business School MBA, offered full-time, part-time, and as an executive MBA. The MBA is highly ranked, placed #7 in QS Global MBA 2026 and #35 in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2025. Applicants need a bachelor’s degree with 3–6 years of work experience, along with GMAT 625–700 or GRE scores, and English proficiency (IELTS 7.5 overall or TOEFL 110).

Academic standards at Cambridge are high. Undergraduates need top school grades, like CBSE 5+ A1s, ISC 90%+, or State Board ~95%, along with course-specific tests such as IIT-JEE, STEP, or AP exams. Master’s programs require a strong Indian degree equivalent to UK 2:1 or higher, while PhD applicants must hold a master’s-level equivalent. Cambridge also considers personal challenges or learning difficulties and provides support for disabled students during assessments and interviews.

University of Cambridge Graduate Admission Requirements

Qualifying Indian Degrees

  • 3-year degrees: BBA, BBM, BBS, BCA, Statistics, Fine Arts, Law (if 3-year postgraduate)

Minimum Academic Scores (Master’s)

UK Honours Level General Indian Requirement Ashoka (4-point CGPA) NLSIU (7-point CGPA) O.P. Jindal (8-point CGPA)

University of Cambridge Admission Decision

Cambridge sends admission decisions directly through UCAS (undergraduate) or the Applicant Portal (postgraduate). Timelines vary: UG decisions usually come in January after interviews, while PG decisions are mostly Feb–March depending on the course and deadlines.

Offer Types:

  • Conditional: You must meet grades, test scores, or other course requirements.
  • Unconditional: Rare, given if all requirements are already met.
  • Pooling (UG only): Your application may be passed to another College if your first choice is full.

Tip: Always check UCAS or the portal for updates. Meet conditions, accept offers, and apply for funding or visa if needed. For exact dates and details, visit:

  • UG: undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk
  • PG: postgraduate.study.cam.ac.uk

Additionally, students should know that Cambridge takes personal challenges or learning difficulties into account. If something has affected your education, you can tell them, and the university will consider it when looking at your application. Extra support is also available for disabled students during tests and interviews.

FAQs

Ques. Is University of Cambridge hard to get into?

Ans. Yes, admission to the University of Cambridge is highly competitive, with an acceptance rate of 21%. In the latest admission cycle, 21,445 undergraduate applicants competed for only 4,550 seats. Applicants must have exceptional academic performance, additional qualifications (such as AP tests or IIT-JEE Advanced rank), and meet course-specific requirements, including admissions tests and interviews.

Ques: What is the Winter Pool at Cambridge and how does it work?

Ans: The Winter Pool is a system where strong applicants who can’t get a place at their first-choice college are considered by other colleges with available spots. After interviews, colleges either make a direct offer, reject, or pool promising candidates. In January, colleges with open places review pooled applications, may conduct a second interview if needed, and select students until all spots are filled. Being pooled is not a rejection — it means the college thinks you’re capable, and about 20–25% of Cambridge offers each year come through this process. Applicants don’t need to take any action; final decisions are usually released by late January via UCAS.

Ques: How does the college system affect my admission chances?

Ans: Each of Cambridge's 31 colleges handles admissions on its own, so entry rules and competition can vary. If your first choice doesn’t accept you, your application may be considered by other colleges through the “winter pool,” giving you a second chance.

Ques: What are super-curricular activities and why are they important for Cambridge?

Ans: Super-curricular activities are things you do to explore your subject beyond school lessons, like reading advanced books, doing mini-research, or listening to academic podcasts. They show curiosity, passion, and independent learning, helping you stand out among other high-achieving applicants.

Ques: What’s special about Cambridge interviews?

Ans: Interviews are like academic conversations with experts, testing your thinking and creativity rather than memorized answers. They look for curiosity, problem-solving, and resilience, not polished coaching.

Ques: Can picking a less popular college help?

Ans: Choosing a smaller or newer college doesn’t guarantee admission, but researching college strengths and showing genuine interest can make a positive impression.

  • I was ineligible for scholarships due to a late application. However, if applied between November and December, you can get a partial scholarship for up to £10,000. This depends on your college preference and allocated college too. The most competitive ones can get a Gates Cambridge Scholarship or even a Commonwealth Scholarship for up to £60,000. Usually scholarships are reserved for PhDs, as more than 80% of students pay for their MPhil.

Overview

It's prestigious and this means that graduates often enjoy excellent job opportunities. It's hard to get into (interview process, high grades, etc.) so the need to work hard to get in was a source of motivation when I was studying for my A level exams.

Scholarship

Yes - Student Finance. Most UK students receive this funding. It's means-tested: the amount you receive depends on the income of your parents. You receive payments for your college funds and a maintenance loan (to cover living costs). Students whose families earn less than $45,000 a year also get an annual bursary from the university of up to $3,500.
