At Cambridge, Trinity College is often the first choice students hear about. It is the largest college, has over £2 billion in funds, and its former students include 34 Nobel Prize winners. While Trinity stands out, other colleges like King’s, St John’s, and Christ’s share the same city campus and offer strong study life in their own way.

Cambridge is often called the UK’s cycling city, and it shows in daily life. A large share of residents use bikes every week, helped by the city’s flat roads, short distances, and student-friendly layout. Air quality is usually clean and healthy, staying in the “good” range most of the year, thanks to green spaces and very little heavy industry. Getting around is easy and calm in Cambridge. The city is small, safe, and has low crime, so moving around is much less stressful than in big cities.

The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209. It is the second-oldest university in any English-speaking country, after Oxford. With 100+ libraries in its colleges and departments, learning is part of life all over the city. The city is just under an hour from London by the train, making it well-connected. Sundays in Cambridge feel quiet and traditional, with many small shops closed and big stores open for only a few hours. Students wear gowns for formal dinners, Gothic buildings line the streets, and punting on the River Cam is popular. Cosy pubs, a safe city, and lively bars make it easy to mix study, social life, and culture.

  • The University of Cambridge comprises 31 colleges, some as old as 700 years and as new as 50 years. Each college has its student body, bar, gym, library, and associated culture. Colleges are like mini socialites within Cambridge, catering to different aspects of student life, like Newnham, which is an all-female college, while Wolfson is a mature college allowing only 21-year-old students. Some colleges are heavy in certain subjects due to their student representation. Churchill is more Computer Science heavy due to proximity with the department, while Trinity college is Math heavy due to the influence of Sir Isaac Newton.
  • There are several clubs for extracurricular activities at Cambridge. you have college-wide clubs and university-wide clubs, ranging from wine tasting to motor sports.
  • Socialising with other colleges is a major part of university life. You can attend college events through your friends belonging to certain colleges, for example, King's and St John's. Or it could be open, like in Wolfson or St Edmund's. You can also attend formal dinner swaps, where two colleges exchange their students during a formal dinner. At the end of the academic year, each college hosts their annual grand party, called May Balls, which used to be held in May but now is hosted in the last week of June.

    • Gym: free
    • Laundry: depends on college; used to pay £5 per wash + drying

  • There are no "Campus" of sorts, Cambridge is a university town, the departments and college accommodations spread through the main Cambridge city.
  • Cambridge University has all the facilities for each and every sport, several libraries and nurses in each college. University students have access to all these facilities free of cost and major sports could have free trials.
  • There are various career fares, tech festivals running throughout the year from different departments. There are more than 100 clubs and student led organizations to take part in.

Fees

  • The MBA fee is given in two terms, first when you have to confirm your acceptance. You need to pay around 10 lakhs, and the rest you need to pay anytime before the course starts.
  • Monthly expenses in the UK are around 1 lakh rupees per month including rent, food and utilities. Food is provided in colleges but every meal is to be paid separately and is quite expensive but cheaper then other alternatives.

Many events are organised by the different departments of the university and these include concerts, speeches, etc. These are simply awesome and provide a new experience every time. We also get opportunities to meet people having remarkable contributions to the field of literature and language and it's always a pleasure meeting them.

One of the best undergraduate law programs in the world. I appreciated the world-class teaching and the professors who were at the leading edge of their subjects.

Overview

It's prestigious and this means that graduates often enjoy excellent job opportunities. It's hard to get into (interview process, high grades, etc.) so the need to work hard to get in was a source of motivation when I was studying for my A level exams.

Fees

?9250 a year for UK students, though most people are eligible for a student loan to help them fund the costs. Most people live in college residence and the cost of accommodation varies according to where you stay - usually less than $2000 a term. Events like formal dinners do cost money, though not a lot, usually about $15 for a 3-course meal, which I find very reasonable. May Ball tickets almost always cost over $100 which I think to be extortionate.
