Aston University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Aston uses standard UK entry thresholds for Indian applicants. Postgraduate offers hinge on Bachelor’s class, English proficiency and a professional or academic reference.

Postgraduate taught (MSc, MBA):

  • Bachelor’s degree at 2:2 honours or higher (Indian equivalent: 55% or higher for a 2:2; 60% or higher for a 2:1 requirement)
  • IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 for most masters; MBA and select programmes may require 7.0 (verify at the official English language requirements page)
  • Consolidated Bachelor’s academic transcripts and a professional or academic reference on letterhead
  • MBA applicants: minimum three years of full-time work experience

Undergraduate:

  • Class 12 CBSE, ISC or state board at 75%-90% depending on programme; Aston recognises the AISSCE as equivalent to A Levels for most subjects
  • IELTS 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 for standard entry; higher for Pharmacy and Optometry
  • Direct entry to Year 1 for well-qualified Indian applicants; Foundation Year available for borderline profiles

Note: Aston may waive the IELTS for Indian applicants who completed Class 12 or a full Bachelor’s degree in English medium at CBSE, ISC or a recognised state board. Confirm eligibility with the Admissions Team before submitting.

Aston University Acceptance Rate 2027

Aston University does not publish an official acceptance rate. Independent trackers place the overall figure at around 50% (estimated figure).

The moderate selectivity reflects Aston’s mid-tier positioning: more demanding than post-92 institutions, more accessible than Russell Group universities. For Indian applicants meeting the 55%-60% Bachelor’s threshold and IELTS 6.5, offer conversion is typically quicker than at higher-ranked peers.

Reality check: Aston Business School programmes tend to fill early in the cycle. Indian applicants for MSc International Business, MBA and Business Analytics should submit at least 8-10 weeks before the target deadline to secure an offer and CAS letter comfortably.

Aston University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Aston reports strong graduate outcomes across business, engineering and computing programmes. More than 80% of graduates secure employment within six months of graduation.

  • Placement year uptake: Over 73% of Aston undergraduates take an integrated paid placement year, the highest share among UK universities per Aston reporting
  • Median salary three years after graduation: £33,600 (₹43.16 lakh) per UK Longitudinal Education Outcomes data 2025
  • Average salary five years after graduation: £35,400 (₹45.47 lakh) as per Aston LEO reporting
  • Careers support: Aston Careers and Placements Team supports students for three years post-graduation; named Best University Placements Service at the 2022 National Undergraduate Employability Awards
  • Recruiter sectors: Financial services, professional services consulting, healthcare, automotive manufacturing and logistics across the West Midlands and London corridor

Insider note: Indian MSc International Business and Business Analytics graduates typically place into consulting, banking operations and analytics roles in the UK. Common landing points include Birmingham, London and Manchester. The Graduate Route visa gives two years for job search after course completion.

Three durable advantages back the choice for Indian applicants. The UK Graduate Route unlocks two years of post-study work rights, valued highly for return-on-investment planning. Aston Business School’s AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA accreditation is recognised for corporate hiring across India, ASEAN and the Gulf. And the Aston alumni network stays active in finance, analytics and supply chain across the West Midlands.

Aston is less suited to applicants seeking a Russell Group brand or deep research focus in humanities. Candidates targeting elite consulting or investment banking direct-hire from campus should also consider University of Birmingham, which places significantly higher in QS. The Guardian University Guide 2026 places Aston 48th in the UK, which frames the trade-off clearly.

Aston University FAQs

Ques. How many hours can Indian students work part-time at Aston University?

Ans. Indian students on a UK Student Route visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term time. Full-time work is permitted during official vacation periods. Aston Careers and Placements Team lists part-time roles inside the university and across Birmingham. Most Indian students combine research or administrative campus jobs with paid retail or hospitality roles in the city centre.

Ques. Can Aston waive the IELTS requirement for Indian applicants?

Ans. Aston can waive the IELTS for Indian applicants who completed Class 12 or a full Bachelor’s degree in English medium at CBSE, ISC or a recognised state board. Applicants must submit a school or university letter confirming the medium of instruction. Confirmation of eligibility rests with the Aston Admissions Team on a per-programme basis. MBA applicants typically still submit IELTS or an approved equivalent.

Ques. Does Aston University conduct interviews for postgraduate international applicants?

Ans. Most taught MSc programmes at Aston use a documents-only assessment without interview. Full-time MBA applicants attend a structured interview with the Admissions or Programme Director, held online for international candidates. The MBA interview also determines eligibility for the Gold and Silver Full-Time MBA Scholarships worth up to £12,500. Physician Associate and select healthcare programmes may also require an interview stage.

Ques. Is there an application fee at Aston University for Indian students?

Ans. Aston University does not charge an application fee for direct postgraduate applications submitted through its own portal. Undergraduate applicants routing through UCAS pay the standard UCAS charge of £28.50 for a single-choice application. Programmes on specialist portals such as pharmacy or medicine follow their respective admissions body fee structure. Verify current UCAS fees at the UCAS website before submission.

Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for Aston?

Ans. Aston University is recognised by all major Indian public and private banks for education loans. SBI, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Avanse Financial Services fund Aston programmes routinely. Loans without collateral typically cover up to Rs 40 lakh, while secured loans extend to full cost of attendance. The Aston CAS letter and offer document form the base of the loan sanction file.

Ques. Can Indian MBA students bring dependents to Aston University?

Ans. Yes. Aston University MBA students on a full-time programme can bring a dependent spouse and children under the UK Student Route dependent visa. Each dependent requires financial proof of GBP 845 per month for up to 9 months in the Birmingham region, held for 28 consecutive days. Dependents on this route can work full-time in the UK. This dependent right no longer applies to taught MSc applicants outside research routes.

Ques. How does Aston verify Indian transcripts for admission?

Ans. Aston accepts consolidated Bachelor’s transcripts issued directly by the Indian university on official letterhead. Transcripts in a regional language require certified English translation. Aston does not mandate WES or ECE evaluation for standard admission decisions. Digital transcripts sent through NAD or the university registrar are accepted. Final enrolment requires the original degree certificate and provisional transcripts on arrival at Birmingham.

Ques. Is a conditional offer possible at Aston University without English scores?

Ans. Yes. Aston University issues conditional offers to Indian applicants pending IELTS, TOEFL or PTE score submission. The condition typically requires meeting the language threshold at least four weeks before the programme start date. Applicants can also complete an Aston Pre-Sessional English course to meet the English condition in place of a fresh IELTS attempt. The Aston Admissions Team confirms the final unconditional CAS letter once the language condition is cleared.

  • One word- you will have the time of your life on campus. It's the best.

Fees

  • The tuition fees for the program were approximately £17050 GBP in 2022 for the full course duration, depending on the intake year and scholarship availability.
  • Students should also account for additional living expenses, including accommodation, transportation, food, and personal expenses, while planning finances.

  • One campus only, Christmas event Astonbury where all the artist come to perform and many more events i cant think off , was full of events; karaoke happened every friday , it was a very nice place to be in.
  • A lot of activities like running padel tennis foodball , online games, happened – each and every event possible happened you can play any sport and participate in any sport

Fees

  • So my course has a fee of 23500 pounds, out of which i got 6000 pounds scholarship for early acceptance and merit in class 12th, so 17500 and I took hostel william murdoch which was 8000 pounds for 1 year , i had monthly expenses of 200 pounds only, as I used to go out once a week, but people who don't cook food have 600-700 pounds.
  • So you pay 4000 pounds before you go, then 4000 pounds after you reach and 4000 pounds again after 6 months, so basically it's a 3-installment process at aston.

  • My university has 2 campuses – 1 in Birmingham and a recently opened 1 in London.
  • We have all the facilities – library, sports centre with a monthly subscription of £20, student union for students to engage in any clubs or societies
  • One of the major festival that took place on campus is Astonbury which is organized in the month of june (every year)
  • We do have lots of extracurricular activities in the sense that there are lots of clubs and societies that keep on doing some or the other things.
  • The best part is you get lots of freebies whenever there is any event like Career fest or clubs and societies week.

The college has one campus which is in Birmingham near the city centre. The campus has a sports facility which is well maintained and available to use for the university students along with a huge library which is available to use for studying, using computers and also for team meetings.

  • Aston University operates a single main campus in Birmingham, equipped with facilities like a library, sports arena, and medical services.
  • Key events include Aston Fest, where I took part in the reformation of the Malayali Cultural Society. We performed a cultural dance at Aston Fest 2023, celebrating diversity.
  • Aston also offers various sports and student clubs, enhancing campus life with diverse extracurricular opportunities.

Fees

  • The tuition fee for my MSc program at Aston University was set at £19,750, with a flexible option to pay in three installments, corresponding to each semester.
  • My estimated monthly expenses, which cover essentials such as hostel accommodation, food, travel, internet, and mobile, amount to approximately £650, although this may vary depending on my spending patterns each month.

Overview

Overall experience was excellent. Had a tonne of stuff to learn. I chose this University coz its Computer Science department was among the highest-ranked in the UK. And the city was amazing.

The library with 3 stories with lots of studying space and provisions to borrow laptops or work on different PCs. Multiple floors had provisions for silent study where you could really concentrate and study for whatever you want and till late hours(6 am to 11 pm). Aston Student Union organised several events for the students and many interactive sessions to make them comfortable around the campus. The city centre was a 10-minute walk from the campus and the student accommodation so everything was made really convenient.

Overview

It was good. I loved the amount of time I spent there and the experience I have got which is helping me now in the current role as well.

Campus Life

The campus has many different buildings with highly maintained equipment. One of the buildings is made so good that it gives the feeling as if you're walking in the lobby of some big company and has a great space for every individual to sit and spend their time while studying or even working.

Overview

I liked the course and the program in Artificial Intelligence as the course modules are better than many top-ranked colleges in the UK, and there are a lot of interactive lectures, and guest lectures from industry professionals on topics that are not covered in our teaching modules. So this covers most of the aspects of AI and also Aston University is in the city center of Birmingham, 2nd largest city in the UK, with lots of new opportunities developing around here, and some Big 4 companies and IT companies shifting to Birmingham.

Fees

GBP 21000 + additional for 10-month placement assistance where the university can provide an extended visa for 10 months.
