- Student friendly - all students interact nicely with each other because of the collaborative activities which college does
Dislikes
- More events should be there
- The only think i would add is that in between of the course there are very few events and if the events they have in start and end are there in btw as well it would be great
Course Curriculum
- It is very easy to study at aston as the faculty are so understanding and they won't let you take a tiny bit of stress. i used to have 2-3 classes 3 times a week so you are mostly free and classes are so chill that you will feel so much better , there will be activities and group discussions and it's all good. In my class there are approximately 30 students and in total 50% of people are indians only.
Admission Experience
- 2 - university of birmingham and Aston , i got into both but my sister has studied at aston and she only recommended me to go there only as it is not very expensive and gives great scholarships to students, plus it has a good value. It's like if you do a 2-year mba in india Aston will cost the same fee, including stay and degree is for 1 year, so i would strongly recommend
- Admission process is quite simple: just apply to their website if you have 80+ in english in class 12 they won't ask you for IELTS and will send you the offer letter if you accept early, you get a 3000 pounds scholarship and if you have merit in class 12 then 3000 pounds more so a total of a 6000 pounds scholarship. Then you would give a cas interview before you go, which is again simple if you know basic english and yes, then you are ready to go.
- 2024 sept intake , i had to upskill myself and take global exposure and i wanted my degree in less time so yeah, it was my go-to option in that price range. admission process is quite smooth it was so quick and i would say if i had sept intake i accepted the offer in march 2024 . so i would say start your application in jan feb if you going for sept intake then lastest by march accept it and apply for visa and everything you will be all set
Faculty
- Not sure about the faculty-to-student ratio but the faculty knows each and every student by name in class. Yes, we have part-time jobs in aston as well and they guide you about places to find a part-time job as well.
- Mr Uche is the best faculty i have ever came across and he is so helpful. Even if you are not in his class, he will teach you so well. I would say all the faculty at aston are such a gem.
Campus Life
- One campus only, Christmas event Astonbury where all the artist come to perform and many more events i cant think off , was full of events; karaoke happened every friday , it was a very nice place to be in.
- A lot of activities like running padel tennis foodball , online games, happened – each and every event possible happened you can play any sport and participate in any sport
Part Time Jobs
-
How easy/hard is it to get these roles
- TA / RA / DA roles tend to be competitive. Demand is often higher than availability, especially in popular departments or high-profile projects.
- Administrative or non-academic on-campus roles tend to have more openings, but hours/pay are lower, sometimes vis-à-vis demand from all students.
- The university’s Career & Placement / JobShop / Student Union services are useful resources for finding available roles; applying early and having a good CV / relevant skills (e.g. subject knowledge, good communication, and sometimes experience) helps.
- Other details & considerations
- Even when roles are available, the number of hours you want vs. can work (given the 20-hour limit during term) may make it hard to find a role that meets your income needs.
- Some roles might be paid less (especially non-academic ones) so you have to balance time, commuting (if off campus), and academic work.
- Departments sometimes have funding or projects that allow RA roles, but these are limited by grants or staff capacity.
Placement
- On-campus: • Library assistant, student ambassador, departmental/teaching assistant, research assistant, or admin/catering roles. • These are popular because they’re flexible, close to classes, and don’t require commuting.
- Off-campus (Birmingham city): • Hospitality & Retail: restaurants, cafés, supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Asda), coffee shops (Costa, Starbucks), fast food (McDonald’s, KFC, Subway), or shopping centres like Bullring & Grand Central.
- Delivery & Customer Service: Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Amazon warehouse, call centres.
- Events & Temp Agencies: football matches (Aston Villa stadium), concerts, exhibitions, seasonal retail. Most Indian students prefer retail, hospitality, and food delivery jobs off-campus because they’re easier to find and don’t require academic links, while those with strong academics/communication skills aim for on-campus assistant roles.
- On-campus roles: £11 – £15/hour (TA/RA/DA or admin/student ambassador roles). Off-campus retail/hospitality: £10.50 – £12.50/hour (the UK minimum wage for 21+ in 2025 is £11.44/hr). Delivery/warehouse jobs: sometimes £12 – £16/hr depending on shifts, peak hours, or bonuses.
Accommodation
- It was 1 min away from campus; it is called william murdoch rent is 650 a month and it's too good , you can find cheap accommodation a little further, but this was the best accommodation and was great. I had 5 flatmates, all from different countries.
- It was a very good experience and a common kitchen so we all had fun every day, it is a good university for bonding.
Exams
- No exam was needed for me, as i had 80+ in my class 12 if not, then a score of 7 in IELTS is needed
- LOR, CV , SOP’s everything is needed you need a good SOP, so write it very well but on your own .there was no interview just for cas there was one where they check if you can speak in english and communicate or not. It's a short 10-15 min interview in which they ask basic questions like what, apart from studies, you want to do; wheres the uni; how far is it from accommodation; and other basic things, so it's all good.
Fees
- So my course has a fee of 23500 pounds, out of which i got 6000 pounds scholarship for early acceptance and merit in class 12th, so 17500 and I took hostel william murdoch which was 8000 pounds for 1 year , i had monthly expenses of 200 pounds only, as I used to go out once a week, but people who don't cook food have 600-700 pounds.
- So you pay 4000 pounds before you go, then 4000 pounds after you reach and 4000 pounds again after 6 months, so basically it's a 3-installment process at aston.
Scholarship
- I got a 3000 pounds scholarship for early acceptance, and then I got 3000 pounds for merit.
- I also applied for a scholarship of 10,000 pounds but I didn’t get it for that you have to make a 2-minute video of yourself telling why they should give you scholarships and only 5 people get that 10,000 pounds scholarship ao its tough but i got 6,000 pounds which is good because the fee gets cheaper and it’s cheaper than what you pay to colleges like nmims for 2 years.
