Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is a public research university located in Mile End, East London, England. Established in 1785. It is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of UK universities. QMUL offers more than 300 undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and short courses in popular fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Law, Business, and Medicine. The university has around 32,000 students, with nearly 46% international students representing over 170 countries.

QMUL does not officially declare its acceptance rate, but reliable estimates suggest it ranges between 40% and 43%, making it moderately selective. The annual tuition fees for international postgraduate students generally range from £33,000 to £53,950 (₹40-65 lakhs), while undergraduate fees range from £29,450 to £32,950 (₹35-40 lakhs), depending on the course. As the university is located in London, the average monthly cost of living is relatively high and can range from £1,300 to £2,000 (₹1.6-2.4 lakhs), depending on accommodation and lifestyle.

To support international students financially, QMUL offers Global Talent Scholarships, President’s Global Scholarships (INR 6.64-14.45 lakhs), which can significantly reduce tuition costs. However, student reviews indicate that fully funded scholarships are highly competitive, and most students rely on partial funding and personal savings. Ranked #110 in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and has 7.2 out of 10 ratings on Collegedunia. QMUL is widely regarded as a strong academic choice, though the students should be prepared for high living costs, self-driven job searches, and cultural adjustment when studying in London.

Jobs Tips for Indian Students in London:

  • On-campus jobs (£11.28 per hour), such as library assistants, student ambassadors, and cafe workers (£10–£14), are popular because they offer flexible hours and are student visa-friendly.
  • Job search platforms commonly used by students include Indeed, StudentJob UK, Prospects, LinkedIn, university job boards, and local Facebook groups
  • Reddit threads from students in the UK suggest applying for hospitality, retail, warehouse, and customer service roles.
  • Most student jobs in London pay around £10–£13 per hour (with higher rates for those aged 21+). As competition is high, applying early and networking can improve your chances.
  • Tutoring and academic support roles (£15-£25), including online tutoring, coding help, maths support, or teaching Indian curriculum subjects, are popular among Indian students.
  • Freelance and gig work (£12-£25 or more), such as content writing, social media management, graphic design, video editing, and basic web work, is increasingly common, especially for students with digital skills.

Students’ reviews: QMUL is a good university, but you should be prepared for culture adjustment and London costs. Students must network and find jobs themselves rather than expecting on-campus placements.

  • Queen Mary has one of the biggest campuses in london. The campus was very beautiful and each university building has different sections. Our campus included 3-4 cafeterias. The library also had different sections and the staff was very smooth with all the functionality.
  • Campus also included a club-type area where all the fresher parties used to be conducted. Extracurricular activities like games, seminars, sports, etc., were conducted in a timely manner

  • When I was new in London, events and fests organized by the university were the icebreakers for me. I have met so many people through these events, made unforgettable memories, and made friends for life. There was a Diwali party and Holi organized by the university and the Indian club. DJ nights at Drapers. Drapers is our very own club.
  • We have an e-library; we can browse it from anywhere and anytime we want, and I think that is one of the best things. We have group study rooms and private study rooms. My campus is located in Mile End, London.

  • Only 2 campuses as of my knowledge and both are in London itself.
  • All of those facilities are available on the campus including student accommodation and a grocery store.
  • I don't have the detailed information for all the extracurricular. but i used to participate in football related activities and there were many of those in a month and were amazing as well.

Fees

  • My Course Fees was pounds 27,250. and had given 2000 pounds as deposit, the rest had 12,000 or something had to pay at the start of the college and the remaining amount was paid after 6 months of enrollment.
  • My rent was 1,250 pounds per month, on an average monthly expense was rent- 1250 pounds, transport was- 100 pounds a month, and grocery was 60 pounds a month.

  • My university had two campuses one in Whitechapel and one in Mile End with both the campuses situated right next to each other, there was a canal flowing near the library and made a beautiful scenery.
  • There were a lots of clubs and activities but not much promotion on it and was mainly catered to the undergraduates.
  • I was part of the Queen Mary Machine Learning Club.

Fees

  • The total fees of my course was 27,950 pounds and was charged yearly.
  • I didn't avail hostel in case of university accommodation the monthly charges including all the bills would have been 650 Pounds per month.
  • The monthly expenses for me was around 1250. With 750 pounds going for flat rent and 500 pounds for food and groceries and another 100 to 150 pounds going for travelling and entertainment.

  • We had classes in 4 different buildings, and it's a pretty big campus as it covers all different courses you almost have two tube stations from one end to the other.
  • The cafeteria is a big plus here and you'll find half of the people there always, you can completely depend on it for lunch or breakfast.
  • The library is pretty good with all books available for assignments or otherwise.
  • We had 4 big events I think during our time there and also 2 outside the campus events and there were elections, dance, cultural competitions and also we had trips to nearby London where we could go with the University.

  • My college has two campuses. My campus was Mile End Campus and it is the main campus of the University. The other campus is in the city centre and is mainly for Law students.
  • My campus had a huge library which was accessible 24x7 and had a good collection. Everything was done online - issuing books and giving it back. There are many clubs including Hindu society, Cricket club, Running club - to name a few.
  • As I was pursuing a Masters course, we weren't very interested in participating much in activities and those things are mostly for Bachelor's students.

Fees

  • My total expenses for 1 year was - Rs. 55L
  • Scholarship received from State Govt - 38.5L
  • Tuition - 28.5L
  • Accommodation Rent - 14,50,000
  • Food (Tiffin Service) - 2,50,000 (5 times a week)
  • Other expenses include - Eating out, Travelling and Liesure activities.
  • My rent is a bit higher cause I chose the accommodation right opposite to my campus and lived alone in a studio. Students can choose private housing or even University housing and share their rooms with other folks which can decrease the rent significantly.

Overview

I primarily chose Queen Mary University due to its research-oriented approach towards academics. I had an eagle eye on the curriculum for my specific course and the teaching methodology they employed. It is also a Russell group university which gives it prestige. I chose the UK as it is the best for my course- English Literature, specifically London, as it is the city for arts and writing. In conclusion, it was a great experience and taught me a plethora of things besides academics.

For masters, since it is a one year we have a few on-campus programmes ranging from cultural events to career fairs. We have several societies to serve the interests of all students. From literature, dance, and music to sports and cooking, the university has it all.

Overview

I chose this university because the fees were not that high, and it ranked in the top 50 in the world, hence I went for this university. I also reached out to past graduates, they described it as a good university of finance as well and hence I went for it.

Overall, it was a good experience but since there was less awareness from the university I struggled to know services that could have made my experience more worthwhile.

Overview

I chose Queen Mary University of London because it provides one of the best course structures for Intellectual Property Rights and all the renowned professors taught in this university. I overall really liked my experience at this university, which was really great in terms of academics as LLM is more inclined towards academia and it fulfilled all the criteria of developing a deeper understanding of the subject and developing my own dissertation and also because all my professors were very helpful. I chose this particular program ( Intellectual Property Rights) because most of my interests have been carved around IPR through my internships and publications and I further want to pursue PhD in this subject thus I was inclined to choose this subject.

There were clubs like qLegal which specialised in law and equipped us with pro bono legal advice experience for start-ups. The university has in total 3 libraries sprawled across 3 locations, the whole campus is equipped with free WiFi and cafeterias with student discounts going now and then.
