Tips and Tricks for Indian Students
- Apply Early: Submit by March–June 2026 for the best chances (scholarships/visas). Use QMUL’s free local representatives in India — no agent fees.
- Strengthen Your Profile: Highlight investment projects, internships or CFA prep in your personal statement (500–1,000 words). Get strong academic references early.
- English Prep: If below IELTS 6.5, take QMUL’s pre-sessional English course (summer 2026).
- Visa & ATAS: No ATAS required. Prove funds (~£35,250 tuition + £1,334/month London living for 9 months). Use Priority Visa for faster processing.
- Scholarships Strategy: Apply to Chevening/SEF separately (strong leadership/impact essays key). Indian govt options like National Overseas Scholarship for SC/ST students.
- Budget Smart: London living ~£15,000–20,000/year. Seek on-campus jobs (20 hrs/week on Student Visa) or QMUL-guaranteed accommodation.

- Common Pitfalls to Avoid: Don’t delay references/transcripts. Tailor SOP to QMUL’s focus (e.g., investment analysis, CFA alignment).
FAQs
Ques 1: Do I really need 60–70% in my B.Tech/B.Com to get admission? My percentage is 58–62% from a Tier-2 college. Will I be rejected automatically?
Ans: No, you will NOT be rejected automatically. QMUL officially asks for a UK 2:1 (roughly 60–70%), but for Indian students they openly accept good 2:2 equivalents (55–60%) on a case-by-case basis if you have strong relevant experience. Hundreds of Indian students with 58–63% from NITs, SRCC, etc. get offers every year.
Ques 2: Is it worth spending ₹40–45 lakh for one year? Will I recover the money in 2–3 years?
Ans: Yes, almost every Indian student recovers it. Starting salary after QMUL MSc Investment and Finance (2023–2024 data):
- UK roles (via Graduate Visa): £40,000–£60,000 (₹42–63 lakh) – companies like Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, BlackRock, HSBC, Deloitte, PwC.
- Back in India (if you return): ₹25–45 lakh at HDFC, ICICI, Kotak, Axis Bank, McKinsey, Bain, etc.
Average time to recover full cost: 20–26 months in the UK, 12–18 months if you return to India with a UK degree + experience. Plus 2 years of full work rights in the UK with zero sponsorship hassle.
Ques 3: How can I get the SEF Scholarship or at least a ₹10–15 lakh scholarship as an Indian student?
Ans: Three proven ways that worked for Indian students in the 2024–2025 cycle:
a) SEF Scholarships (£10,000) – Up to 8 Indian students got it last year for finance programmes. Apply separately May–June 2026 via QMUL portal. Must have strong quantitative profile + finance interest.
b) Chevening Scholarship (100% funded by UK govt) – Apply on chevening.org by 5 Nov 2025. 30–40 Indians get it every year for QMUL. Need 2+ years work exp + leadership proof.
c) Queen Mary Global Talent + India Excellence Scholarship combo – Auto-considered when you apply early (before April). Many Indians get £10,000–£12,000.
Pro tip: Apply before 28 February 2026 → 90% higher chance of any scholarship.

- I found my accommodation online - IQ Student Accommodation. The name of my building was IQ East Court. It is situated right opposite to my University and is a very convenient location.
- The rent was €1200 per month which included one studio room with kitchen and bathroom (private). Addition were a lounge room, cinema room and a gym - all free of cost. It was pretty easy to book it and everything was done online. It is secure and easy.
- Indians mostly live in private housing or University accommodation which is cheaper but doesn't has much private space.
