- I liked how the academics were more research-based rather than primarily focusing on theory. The approach towards teaching focuses on enhancing skills which increases job opportunities.
- The library provided a great range of study material, and the borrowing policy was great as you can borrow multiple books at a time.
I primarily chose Queen Mary University due to its research-oriented approach towards academics. I had an eagle eye on the curriculum for my specific course and the teaching methodology they employed. It is also a Russell group university which gives it prestige. I chose the UK as it is the best for my course- English Literature, specifically London, as it is the city for arts and writing. In conclusion, it was a great experience and taught me a plethora of things besides academics.
Course Curriculum
The master's programme is majorly research-based and the curriculum is specific to the area of interest. The final assignment is a thesis or research paper that one has to publish. The course is basically designed to cater to an individual's interest.
Exams
- For my course specifically one needs an IELTS score of 8 bands with 7 or more in all the 4 sections. - ICSE (10TH) - 90%; ISC (12) - 95.25%; Delhi University - BA - 8.25 cgpa - Requirements: Yes, I had to submit a detailed SOP, 2 LORs, and my CV. The SOP should be focussed on a variety of aspects like why the specific country, university, and course. Some universities might take an interview as well. For the LOR, one has to be academic, the other can be from an internship as well.
Placement
For my course, the entry-level salary starts from 22,000 pounds per annum and goes up to 32,000 pounds. Many students go further to do PHDs as well as the university provides opportunities for the same.
Fees
It was 22,250 pounds as of 2023 which is around 24-25 lakhs tuition fees in INR.
Faculty
The faculty in my department is revered all over the UK. The English department has highly qualified professors who not only deliver lectures but also have call-in sessions for solving queries. The universities have a union which has job openings within the campus. Whereas, the careers and enterprise assist in checking the resume and with applying.
Campus Life
For masters, since it is a one year we have a few on-campus programmes ranging from cultural events to career fairs. We have several societies to serve the interests of all students. From literature, dance, and music to sports and cooking, the university has it all.
Hostel
There is the facility of student accommodation, with an en-suite room. It is mostly 5 people sharing a common kitchen. The rent would cost anything around 800-1000 pounds including all the bills.
