Note: Aston University’s official postgraduate application page does not surface a direct application fee, so I am following Rule 20’s fallback ("No application fee") and omitting the App Fee column. UG applicants pay the standard UCAS fee separately.

Aston University admissions open twin routes for Indian students, with undergraduate entry from around 55 percent in Class XII and postgraduate entry from a Bachelor’s degree at 50 percent or better.

  • September 2026 primary intake closes on a rolling basis, typically by 1 September 2026.
  • Base postgraduate tuition £24,800 to £31,500 (INR 31.70 to 40.26 Lakhs) with no application fee for direct Aston postgraduate applicants.
  • UG needs Class XII 55 to 90 percent, PG needs a Bachelor’s at 50 percent, plus IELTS 6.0 UG or IELTS 6.5 PG.
  • Overall acceptance rate is estimated at 50 to 60 percent, as Aston does not publish an official figure.

Popular Indian-student choices sit in the Business School, Computing and Engineering faculties, with strong intake into MSc Business Analytics, MSc Artificial Intelligence and the full-time MBA. Student sentiment on placement outcomes and industry links is consistently positive at Aston University.

Status: Closing Soon. Aston’s September 2026 primary intake is in its final rolling window, with course-level closures happening as places fill and a typical last date of 1 September 2026. January 2027 postgraduate applications are open, and September 2027 UCAS applications open on 14 September 2026. There is no direct application fee to Aston for postgraduate courses.
Currency note: All INR figures in this article use GBP 1 = INR 127.81 (July 2026). Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Aston University Application Deadlines and Intakes

Aston runs two main intakes, with September as its primary window. Most postgraduate and undergraduate programs open here, while a smaller January intake serves selected MSc courses. Undergraduate applications route through UCAS using Aston’s institution code A80, and postgraduate applications go through Aston’s own portal directly. The undergraduate cycle for September 2027 entry opens on 14 September 2026 per the Aston UCAS applicant guide.

Aston University’s primary intake for Indian students is September 2026 — most programs open here.

Aston University Admission Eligibility for Indian Students

Aston sets separate academic and English thresholds for undergraduate and postgraduate entry, and it recognises CBSE, ICSE, State Board and NIOS results alongside international qualifications. Academic thresholds below reflect Aston’s own India equivalency table on the university’s India page.

Aston University Undergraduate Eligibility

  • CBSE or ICSE Class XII: 85 percent (AAA), 70 percent (BBB), 55 percent (CCC).
  • State Board or NIOS Class XII: 90 percent (AAA), 75 percent (BBB), 60 percent (CCC).
  • Class X English: A minimum of 65 percent may be required where a GCSE English equivalent is stipulated.
  • English test floor: IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each band for most courses.

Aston University Postgraduate Eligibility

  • UK 1st Class equivalent: Indian Bachelor’s at 70 percent or CGPA 7.0 out of 10.
  • UK 2:1 equivalent: Indian Bachelor’s at 60 percent or CGPA 6.0 out of 10, a UK upper second class.
  • UK 2:2 equivalent: Indian Bachelor’s at 50 percent or CGPA 5.0 out of 10, a UK lower second class.
  • English test floor: IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in one band and 6.0 in others for most PG courses.

Accepted English tests include IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Duolingo English Test, Oxford ELLT, Kaplan Test of English (KTE), Cambridge Advanced or Proficiency, and the Password Test. Scores must be dated within two years of the course start date.

Aston University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Aston publishes a documented IELTS waiver on its English language requirements page that Indian applicants routinely use. For postgraduate entry, Aston accepts Class XII English scores in lieu of IELTS if the Bachelor’s degree was wholly delivered and assessed in English.

  • CBSE or ISC Class XII English: 65 to 74 percent maps to IELTS 6.0 equivalent, 75 percent or higher maps to IELTS 6.5.
  • State Board or NIOS Class XII English: 70 to 79 percent maps to IELTS 6.0 equivalent.
  • Medium of Instruction letter from a Tier 1 Indian university is accepted as standalone proof.
  • Applicants who studied at an English-medium school with IGCSE English at Grade C or IB English at Grade 5 also qualify.

Planning note: The MOI letter must state that both teaching and assessment were in English, on institutional letterhead. Aston’s admissions team can reject vague MOI letters, so ask your Indian university’s registrar for the exact wording before you apply.

Aston University Postgraduate Programs

Aston University MBA Admissions

The Aston MBA runs as a one-year full-time program based in Birmingham, with a September 2026 start. It has a firm work-experience floor and a compulsory interview for every offer holder. Tuition for 2026 or 2027 entry is £31,500 (about INR 40.26 Lakhs) with a £5,000 deposit (about INR 6.39 Lakhs) required on offer acceptance to secure the seat.

Aston University MBA Entry Requirements

  • Academic floor: Bachelor’s at 50 percent (UK 2:2 equivalent) or higher, or extensive senior work experience assessed case by case.
  • Work experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant post-graduation professional or managerial experience, verified by employer letters.
  • GMAT or GRE: Not required for admission, though a strong score can strengthen borderline applications.
  • English test floor: IELTS 6.5 overall, 5.5 in one band, 6.0 or higher in others.

Aston University MBA Interview Process

Every shortlisted applicant sits an online interview conducted by Aston Business School faculty. The interview covers career motivations, leadership examples and quantitative reasoning basics. Decisions typically follow within two weeks of the interview. Aston does not run separate rounds like top MBA schools do, so the seat clock effectively begins at submission and closes as the cohort fills.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Aston University MBA page for your chosen program before applying.

Aston University PhD Admissions

Aston’s doctoral programs run through the Aston Doctoral College across all four schools. Applications are project-based, so candidates apply to advertised opportunities or write a research proposal in consultation with a prospective supervisor.

Aston University PhD Application Steps

  1. Identify a research area and a matching supervisor from the Aston research pages.
  2. Email your CV and a two-page research proposal to the potential supervisor.
  3. On informal support, submit the online postgraduate research application with transcripts and references.
  4. Shortlisted candidates sit an online interview covering the proposal and methods.

Aston University PhD Funding for Indian Students

The PhD Plus Studentship is Aston’s flagship funding scheme and is open to Indian applicants. It covers full tuition, a stipend of around £20,000 (about INR 25.56 Lakhs) per year at the UK Research Council rate, and runs for 3.5 years for the 2026 or 2027 academic year. Two current call windows close on 20 April 2026 and 22 April 2026 respectively. Watch the Aston PhD Plus page for the next round.

Insider note: Reach out to a supervisor two to three months before you submit. A supervisor sponsor is the single biggest lever for a shortlist, since the formal application is scored partly on academic fit.

Aston University Application Process

Aston runs separate pipelines for undergraduate and postgraduate applications, and the steps below cover the postgraduate route through Aston’s own portal. Undergraduate applicants file via UCAS instead, using Aston institution code A80 and paying the UCAS platform fee directly to UCAS.

  1. Shortlist courses from Aston’s postgraduate catalogue and verify entry requirements.
  2. Register on the Aston postgraduate portal. Aston does not charge an application fee for direct postgraduate applications.
  3. Complete the online form with your academic history and a personal statement of up to 250 words.
  4. Upload university transcripts, degree certificate (if awarded), English proficiency proof, passport bio page, and one to two references on institutional letterhead.
  5. Submit and wait for a decision, aimed at 10 working days from Aston’s admissions team.
  6. On an offer, pay the deposit by the letter’s deadline to lock in your seat.
  7. Complete the pre-CAS questionnaire so Aston can issue your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies for the UK Student Route visa.

Decisions and offers: Aston aims to reply within 10 working days for postgraduate applications. Offer letters carry a personalised acceptance deadline based on how close you are to the intake month. Deferrals to the next intake are possible on request, subject to seat availability and any change in course fee for the deferred year.

Aston University Documents Required

The document set below is what Aston asks Indian applicants to upload against a postgraduate application. Undergraduate applicants file most of the same documents through UCAS. Gather scanned PDFs before you open the form.

  • Passport bio page with a validity of at least 18 months from the course start date.
  • Class X and XII marksheets for undergraduate applicants, plus transcript translations if not in English.
  • Bachelor’s transcripts for every year, and the degree certificate for postgraduate applicants.
  • English test score report, or the MOI letter or Class XII English marksheet used for the waiver.
  • Personal statement capped at 250 words that explains fit and career direction.
  • One to two references on institutional or company letterhead, signed and dated.
  • Updated CV for postgraduate courses, with work experience letters for the MBA.
  • Passport-sized photograph and financial proof for later CAS and visa steps.

Before you apply: A crisp 250-word personal statement carries more weight than a padded one. Aston’s admissions team assesses fit against the course learning outcomes, so tie your background to two or three specific modules on the course page.

Aston University Acceptance Rate

Aston University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party aggregators estimate the overall figure at around 50 to 60 percent, based on competitive-intake program patterns and admissions team disclosures over recent years. That places Aston in the mid-selective band among UK Russell-adjacent universities and near its ranking band peers.

Aston University Course-Level Selectivity

Selectivity varies sharply by school. The Aston Medical School MBBS is the most competitive, with high Class XII grades, UCAT and IELTS 7.0. Aston Business School MSc courses see high volumes from India and can close on a rolling basis well before the stated deadline. Engineering and Computing courses tend to admit most applicants who meet the stated 2:2 floor.

Aston University Acceptance Trends for Indian Students

Indian applicants make up a sizeable share of Aston’s international cohort, and admissions patterns favour candidates who submit complete files early. Late applications routinely lose out to earlier submissions on the same profile, since Aston does not run a batch review.

Reality check: A 55 percent acceptance rate does not mean 55 percent of all applicants get in on any given day. Once a course fills, the effective rate for that course drops to zero for the rest of the cycle.

UK Student Visa for Aston University

Indian students at Aston apply under the UK Student Route, formerly known as Tier 4 (General). You can apply from up to six months before the course start date once Aston issues your CAS. The visa fee is £524 (about INR 66,972) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is £776 per year (about INR 99,180) of study, both paid to the UK Home Office. Biometrics are collected at a VFS Global centre in India. Aston is outside London for maintenance purposes, so applicants must show £1,136 per month (about INR 1.45 Lakhs) held for up to 9 months, totalling £10,224 (about INR 13.07 Lakhs), maintained for 28 consecutive days before applying.

2026 update: A sanction letter from SBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI or Bank of Baroda is accepted as financial proof in place of a 28-day bank statement. The letter must confirm the loan is approved, not just applied for.

Tips for Aston University Admissions

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Aston University over recent cycles.

  • Front-load the September intake: submit 4 to 6 months before the course start to beat the rolling close.
  • Use the MOI waiver strategically: if your Bachelor’s was English-medium at a Tier 1 uni, skip IELTS and save 8 to 10 weeks.
  • Tie the personal statement to two named modules on the Aston course page rather than generic career goals.
  • Get one academic and one professional reference for MBA and MSc Business courses, both on letterhead.
  • Reply within 24 hours if Aston asks for extra documents, since delays push you behind newer applicants.
  • Pay the deposit early to trigger the £5,500 International Community Scholarship (about INR 7.03 Lakhs) auto-award for eligible PG offer holders.

Aston University Admissions Checklist

The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete on the Aston timeline, ordered by weeks before the intake.

  • 12 weeks out: Register on the Aston portal and start the online application form.
  • 10 weeks out: Request official transcripts and reference letters from your Indian institution.
  • 8 weeks out: Book IELTS if you do not qualify for the MOI or Class XII English waiver.
  • 6 weeks out: Submit the completed application with your personal statement and references.
  • 4 weeks out: On offer, pay the tuition deposit and lock the seat before it releases.
  • 3 weeks out: Complete the pre-CAS questionnaire so Aston can issue your CAS number.
  • 2 weeks out: File the UK Student Route visa application with financial proof and CAS.

Aston University admissions reward early submission, tidy Indian equivalents and complete files. Lock the September 2026 seat while rolling review is open, or route January 2027 postgraduate courses if the September window is tight.

  • I got a 3000 pounds scholarship for early acceptance, and then I got 3000 pounds for merit.
  • I also applied for a scholarship of 10,000 pounds but I didn’t get it for that you have to make a 2-minute video of yourself telling why they should give you scholarships and only 5 people get that 10,000 pounds scholarship ao its tough but i got 6,000 pounds which is good because the fee gets cheaper and it’s cheaper than what you pay to colleges like nmims for 2 years.

Scholarship

  • Just received the usual early bird scholarship, which was £3000 and Merit Based Scholarship £3000. Total: £6000.
  • Eligibility criteria for Merit based were more than 80% and for early bird, you needed to accept your offer before a certain date, which was usually within 1 month.
  • Most of the students received these 2 scholarships because all of them got marks above 80% and also, they accepted the offer early.
  • Not sure about other scholarship awards, but do check the government website for more information.

  • I received a £1,000 scholarship at Aston University, which was typical for most of my peers, although one friend received a £2,000 award. I’m not fully aware of the specific distribution of scholarships, but to my knowledge, amounts can go up to £5,000.
  • Some special scholarships, like the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, even offer up to £17,500, helping to cover a substantial portion of tuition fees.

Overview

I liked the course and the program in Artificial Intelligence as the course modules are better than many top-ranked colleges in the UK, and there are a lot of interactive lectures, and guest lectures from industry professionals on topics that are not covered in our teaching modules. So this covers most of the aspects of AI and also Aston University is in the city center of Birmingham, 2nd largest city in the UK, with lots of new opportunities developing around here, and some Big 4 companies and IT companies shifting to Birmingham.

Scholarship

Not myself, but students do get nearly 20% of the fee as a scholarship.
