University of Sheffield Application Deadlines for Indian Students
Sheffield runs a September primary intake for both UG and PG, plus a smaller February intake that covers selected Management School master’s and a handful of other PG courses. The Access to Medicine and Dentistry programmes close earlier (mid-October) because of the shared UCAS medical-schools deadline. All dates below are drawn from the official Sheffield postgraduate deadlines page and the UCAS undergraduate application page.
Sheffield’s primary intake for Indian students is September 2027. Most programmes open here, so treat the January UCAS date and the rolling PG window as your working targets. The February 2027 window is a smaller PG-only route with a fixed 15 January 2027 cut-off.

University of Sheffield Eligibility for Indian Students
Sheffield publishes an India-specific entry-requirements table that maps Class XII marks and Bachelor’s percentages to the UK grading scale. Indian applicants meet UG entry with a strong Class XII aggregate; PG entry needs a 3-year Bachelor’s at the equivalent of a UK 2:2 or 2:1. English proficiency is required at IELTS 6.5 overall, or the equivalent on other accepted tests.
- UG general entry: Class XII (CBSE, ISC, or State Board) at 75% aggregate, with 75 to 80% in the four key subjects relevant to the course.
- UG high-tariff programs: engineering, computer science, and dentistry typically expect 80 to 90% in Maths, Physics, or the subject-specific set.
- PG Taught entry: 3-year Bachelor’s at 55% (UK 2:2), 60% (UK 2:1), or 65% (UK First), depending on the course.
- MBA: Bachelor’s at 55%+ plus at least 3 years of postgraduate work experience in a relevant role.
- PhD entry: upper-second Bachelor’s (60%+) plus a Master’s; STEM PhDs sometimes accept a strong Bachelor’s alone.
Accepted English tests and their institution-wide minimums are set out below. Some departments and Management School programmes require higher scores, so the course page is the final word.
| Test | UG minimum | PG Taught minimum |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 overall, 6.0 in each component | 6.5 overall, 6.0 in each component |
| TOEFL iBT | 88 overall, 20 in each section | 88 overall, 20 in each section |
| PTE Academic | 61 overall, 56 in each section | 61 overall, 56 in each section |
| Duolingo English Test | Not accepted for most programmes | Not accepted for most programmes |
University of Sheffield IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Sheffield accepts two Indian-specific English waivers. Applicants with Class XII English at 75% or above (from a recognised Indian board, taught in English) generally do not need to submit IELTS. Applicants who completed a first degree taught in English at a recognised institution also meet the requirement through medium of instruction (MOI), which Sheffield treats as equivalent evidence.
Insider note: Some Management School programmes still ask for IELTS even if Class XII English is 75%+. Check the course page before deciding to skip the test.
University of Sheffield PG Programs and English Scores
Sheffield’s postgraduate taught portfolio covers computer science, engineering, business, and health sciences, with most master’s running for one academic year full-time. Base tuition for 2026-27 sits in the GBP 30,625 to 35,840 range (INR 39.62 to 46.36 Lakhs) for standard PG taught programmes; the course-wise fees breakdown lists exact figures per programme.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |

Sheffield operates a fixed fee guarantee: the tuition rate at entry stays fixed for the full length of the programme, so 2026-27 entrants pay the entry-year rate throughout. See the funding options for Indian students for the automatic PG scholarship of GBP 3,000 (INR 3.88 Lakhs), the GREAT Scholarship of GBP 12,500 (INR 16.17 Lakhs), and alumni tuition rewards.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Sheffield postgraduate page for your chosen program before applying.
University of Sheffield UG Programs and Entry Requirements
Undergraduate degrees at Sheffield route through UCAS and accept A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate Diploma, and recognised Indian Class XII qualifications. Indian applicants who miss the direct-entry Class XII threshold can enter through the University of Sheffield International College foundation year and progress to Year 1. Base UG tuition for 2026-27 runs GBP 25,000 to 32,100 (INR 32.34 to 41.53 Lakhs) per year, with Medicine and Dentistry from GBP 45,000 (INR 58.22 Lakhs).
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEng Computer Science (Software Engineering) | 3 years full-time | Class XII at 75 to 80% including Maths | IELTS 6.5, 6.0 each |
| BEng Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering | 3 years full-time | Class XII at 75 to 80% including Maths and Physics | IELTS 6.5, 6.0 each |
| BSc Computer Science | 3 years full-time | Class XII at 75 to 80% including Maths | IELTS 6.5, 6.0 each |
| Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) | 5 years full-time | Class XII at 90%+, UCAT test, panel interview | IELTS 7.5, 7.0 each |
Sheffield attaches an automatic GBP 2,500 (INR 3.23 Lakhs) UG scholarship to most self-funded international admissions at entry, applied against the first-year tuition invoice.
Insider note: The Class XII cut-off is calculated on the four subjects most relevant to your course, not the aggregate of six. A 65% aggregate with 82% in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and English can still clear a BEng course.
University of Sheffield MBA Admissions for Indian Students
The Sheffield MBA is a 1-year full-time programme run by the Triple-Crown-accredited Sheffield University Management School. It admits a small cohort each September, weighs work experience heavily, and does not require GMAT or GRE - the Bachelor’s transcript, supporting statement, and interview drive shortlisting.
University of Sheffield MBA Eligibility and Deadlines
Admission requires a Bachelor’s degree at UK 2:2 or above (roughly 55% in an Indian 3-year degree) plus at least 3 years of postgraduate work experience in a role with clear career progression. Applicants without a Bachelor’s may still be considered on the strength of five or more years of senior management experience. Tuition for 2026-27 is GBP 32,350 (INR 41.85 Lakhs), and applications for the Sheffield MBA September 2027 cohort close on 3 September 2027, though the cohort typically fills earlier.
University of Sheffield MBA Interview and Test Policy
Shortlisted candidates take a 30 to 45 minute online interview, usually conducted by the Programme Director. The interview covers career trajectory, motivation for Sheffield, and a leadership scenario. English proficiency at IELTS 6.5 (6.0 in each component) is required.
Planning note: Sheffield asks four 200-word supporting-statement questions inside the application - draft them before opening the portal. The four cover career goals, why Sheffield, a leadership example, and a challenge overcome.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Sheffield MBA page before applying.
University of Sheffield PhD Admissions and Funding
Sheffield PhDs are typically 3 to 4 years full-time and admitted on a rolling basis rather than in fixed windows. Entry needs a good Bachelor’s (usually UK 2:1) plus a Master’s; some STEM departments admit strong Bachelor’s-only candidates with research experience. English requirements split by faculty: STEM PhDs ask for IELTS 6.5 overall (6.0 in each component); humanities and social science PhDs ask for IELTS 7.0 overall (6.5 in each component).
University of Sheffield PhD Application and Supervisor Match
The core step for a PhD is identifying a supervisor in the relevant department and agreeing a research fit before filing a formal application. Sheffield accepts self-funded, university-funded, and UKRI-funded doctorates. Some departments run fixed cycles: the Management School PhD, for example, closes on 13 July 2026 for October 2026 entry and 9 November 2026 for February 2027 entry.
University of Sheffield PhD Funding for Indian Students
UKRI-funded studentships pay a minimum stipend of GBP 21,805 (INR 28.21 Lakhs) per year for 2026-27, plus tuition at the UKRI home rate. International candidates can apply for university research scholarships and department-level studentships. Sheffield also runs an Alumni Reward that discounts tuition for returning alumni. See the ranking band in Sheffield’s research-quality context if choosing between UK PhD routes.
Insider note: A supervisor’s "expression of support" email is not a formal offer. The offer only comes after departmental review, so keep applying to your backup schools until the CAS letter is issued.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Sheffield PhD page for your chosen research area before applying.
University of Sheffield Application Process
The application route splits by level. UG applicants file a single UCAS application listing up to five UK universities; PG and PhD applicants file directly through Sheffield’s postgraduate online application form. Steps below apply to both routes, with fee and portal specifics noted where they differ.
- Choose your route. UG applicants file through the UCAS platform (open from 1 September 2026). PG applicants use Sheffield’s postgraduate online application form.
- Pay the application fee. The UCAS application fee is GBP 34.50 (INR 4,463) for UG applications, covering up to five UK universities. PG applications carry no fee at Sheffield’s postgraduate portal.
- Complete the personal statement. UCAS asks for a single 4,000-character statement across all five choices. PG applicants write a course-specific 1,000-word statement inside Sheffield’s form.
- Upload transcripts and certificates. Attach Class XII marksheets or Bachelor’s transcripts, degree certificates, and any board pass certificates.
- Submit references. UG applicants add one academic reference through UCAS. PG applicants add two academic or professional references directly to Sheffield’s form.
- Track your decision. UG decisions come through UCAS Hub; PG decisions come through Sheffield’s postgraduate applicant portal. Most PG decisions land within 4 to 6 weeks.
- Accept your offer and pay the deposit. PG offer holders pay a GBP 2,000 (INR 2.59 Lakhs) tuition deposit to secure the place (GBP 5,000 or INR 6.47 Lakhs for Dentistry).
- Request your CAS and apply for a UK Student visa. The CAS letter is issued after deposit clearance, typically 3 to 4 months before intake.
Before you apply: UCAS lets you edit your application until you submit, but not after. Draft the personal statement in a separate document and paste it in only when polished.
University of Sheffield Documents Required for Indian Students
The document set below covers both UG and PG applications. Sheffield asks for scanned copies at application stage, with certified originals verified at enrolment. Only apostilled or notarised copies of Class XII certificates are accepted where the original is retained by the board.
- Passport bio page: valid for the full duration of study plus 6 months.
- Class XII marksheets and pass certificates: from CBSE, ISC, or State Board (for UG); Bachelor’s transcripts (for PG).
- Degree certificate: or provisional certificate if the final one is pending, for PG applicants.
- Personal statement: UCAS 4,000-character version for UG, 1,000-word course-specific version for PG.
- Academic references: one for UG (via UCAS), two for PG on institutional letterhead.
- Curriculum vitae: required for PG Taught and mandatory for MBA and PhD.
- English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE, unless claiming an MOI or Class XII English waiver.
- Financial proof: tuition and living-cost bank statements dated within 31 days of visa application.
- Work experience letters: for MBA applicants, covering the 3+ years of post-graduation experience.
- Passport-size photograph: as per UK biometric standards, for visa and enrolment.
Planning note: If your degree certificate has not been issued, upload the transcript plus a college-signed provisional letter. Sheffield accepts this for a conditional offer, with the final certificate verified at CAS stage.
University of Sheffield Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
Sheffield does not publish a single institutional acceptance rate, but the aggregate figure is estimated at around 85%, based on the university’s access-oriented model that admits most applicants meeting its stated Class XII and Bachelor’s thresholds. Course-level acceptance is much narrower: competitive Management School and CS master’s programmes typically admit closer to 25 to 30% of qualified applicants.
University of Sheffield Admit Rate by Programme
MSc Data Science, MSc Advanced Computer Science, and the Sheffield MBA are the tightest routes for Indian applicants, with limited seats and high demand from South Asian applicants. Foundation Year progression, MSc Aerospace, and MSc International Management are meaningfully easier to enter for candidates meeting the 60% Bachelor’s threshold.
University of Sheffield Deferred and Rolling Decisions
Most PG offers arrive within 4 to 6 weeks of a complete application, and the PG round is rolling. Applying in the first two months of the cycle (September to November 2026) improves conversion rates on competitive programmes, since departments cap intake once class-size targets are hit.
Insider note: Sheffield’s rolling PG review means the 3 September 2027 deadline is a hard end date, not a target. High-demand courses often stop accepting applications months earlier when the cohort fills.
UK Student Visa Process for University of Sheffield
Indian offer holders apply for the UK Student visa (formerly Tier 4 General) once they receive the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter from Sheffield. Applications open up to 6 months before the course start date and are usually decided within 3 weeks of the biometric appointment. Sheffield’s International Student Support team assists with document checks before submission through the official UK Student visa portal.
The process runs in this order: pay the tuition deposit, request the CAS letter, book an IHS (Immigration Health Surcharge) and visa fee slot, complete the online application, attend biometrics at a VFS Global centre in India, and submit a TB test certificate from a UKVI-approved clinic. Financial proof must show tuition for the first year plus 9 months of maintenance funds as set by UKVI (currently GBP 1,136 per month outside London, or GBP 10,224 over 9 months). Funds must be held in the applicant’s or a parent’s account for at least 28 consecutive days before submission.
2026 update: The UKVI IHS rate is GBP 776 per year of study for students. A one-year master’s therefore carries an IHS of roughly GBP 776 (INR 1.00 Lakh), paid up front alongside the visa fee.
Tips and Application Checklist for University of Sheffield
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Sheffield across the September and February intakes. Items mix strategic advice with timeline-anchored actions so the application, CAS, and visa fit inside a realistic 6 to 9 month window.
- Register with UCAS by early September 2026 so the 4,000-character UG statement is drafted before the December scramble.
- Request Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts from your board or college at least 8 weeks before your target deadline; Indian boards can take 4 to 6 weeks to issue duplicates.
- Take IELTS Academic at least 12 weeks before the deadline so a One Skill Retake is possible if a single component falls short of 6.0.
- Secure two academic references whose emails match their institutional domain; Sheffield rejects references sent from personal Gmail addresses.
- Apply in the first 8 weeks of the PG cycle (mid-September to mid-November 2026) for MSc Data Science, MSc Advanced Computer Science, and Sheffield MBA seats.
- Pay the GBP 2,000 (INR 2.59 Lakhs) PG deposit within 4 weeks of your unconditional offer to release the CAS letter.
- Submit visa documents at least 10 weeks before the 26 August 2027 visa-required deadline so biometric appointment slots at VFS India are available.
- Book flights only after visa vignette issuance, and target arrival in the week before the 27 September 2027 teaching start for orientation and settling-in.
Sheffield’s admissions rest on clear thresholds - 75% at Class XII for UG, 55 to 65% at Bachelor’s for PG, and IELTS 6.5. Apply through UCAS for UG or Sheffield’s own portal for PG. The September 2027 window is now open and rolling.

- Management for computer science is really good, when i face any problem, they solve that same day also if i have other problems like in visa or other related things then they have student union where they support the student and give us resolution.
- The university also provide us support in Healthcare, they have dedicated UHS (university health service) they have tied up with NHS and we get appointment on the same day and also it's really good for students.
- They have all the equipments me for students if they want camera, mic, laptops, computers to use, they gave us for free in rent for few days.
Dislikes
- The building is far away, like if I have one class from 12 PM to 2 PM in The Diamond building then they give another class from 2 PM to 4 PM at another building like The Regent Court building which is 10 minutes walk from that building.
Scholarship
- There were two scholarship options I had at the time of application, the first was a scholarship of 2,500 pounds for every student, and the second was 5,000 pounds for only specific students whose profile is good. I got that scholarship because my profile was good as per their admission requirements.
- That 5,000 scholarship is for 2000 students only, as per my knowledge.

- The quality of teaching of some of the professors was top notch. I was quite lucky with a few of them.
- Our campus and the facilities provided to us were actually very nice. We had 2 libraries- The diamond and the information commons which were open 24x7 to support us.
- I think I made friends with students of many different countries. The people in our college were really diverse and came from different different countries which I never thought I would make friends from.
Dislikes
- The complaint I had with my course was it somehow lacked industry exposure and practical knowledge which would have made me understand things better. A lot of it focused on theory.
- Rising cost of living expenses in the UK. It still was used to be better when I was there but recently prices of accomodations and grocery stores have shot up massively.
- The weather could be a bummer for alot of people. Here in Sheffield, it rains almost everyday maybe and the weather is always gloomy. I was okay with it at one point but it used to bother a lot to my friends.
Scholarship
- I don’t know about any general scholarships, but for our course, I used a £2000 scholarship just for simply accepting the offer letter earlier than the stated date. I think that was just to encourage us to pick out this college, and a lot of my friends got into this one. Also, if you do really well in your exams, your tuition fees for the next year will be reduced by half. ( Undergraduate course)

- The University of Sheffield is a very reputable university and part of the Russel Group, which consists of elite UK universities. It has a very strong alumni network globally.
- Most professors are very highly qualified & knowledgeable.
- There is a lot of support available for students from professors, Teaching Assistants, Personal tutors & student services/students' union. Sheffield SU has been voted the best SU in the UK for many years now.
Dislikes
- There is not a lot of support for International students from career service. Most of their support is limited to tailoring your resume & cover letter which is helpful for graduates. However, for students with prior work experience or International students there should be focused support especially with the challenges of getting skilled worker visa.
- A lot of modules are taught in a year. Hence, teaching can feel a bit rushed. The onus is on you to study regularly & attend your lectures to be in a good position.
- For my course of Information Systems, there should have been more electives from Computer Science department. As a Software Engineer I would have loved that.
Scholarship
- Yes, I got a £2000 scholarship. It was based on my application, my results & experience.
- There is a UK merit scholarship from the University for very meritorious students, in addition to different scholarships which are funded by individuals or organisations. You can get a 25-50% scholarship. The criteria vary from one scholarship to another. Generally, they require a strong academic background. A good volunteering or sports background would be helpful.
- Some of my batchmates got a scholarship. However, getting a UK merit scholarship is very competitive.
