What Students Say

Likes

Very friendly and interactive environment.Helpful seniors as well as batchmates.Good realtion among seniors and juniors.
Good opportunities for internships and placement.
Being an autonomous college,the choice of syllabus is good,only focuses on necessary topics.

Dislikes

Hostel buildings are very old structured and not properly maintained. Work should be done upon mess food.
Lack of resources in workshops and laboratories.
Being not so close to a large city, there is not proper participation in fests. although scenario has changed in recent years to some extent.

Course Curriculum Overview

Mostly follows MAKAUT syllabus. Only the important topics are focused on, which is helpful for students and helps them to develop a skill side by side. Teachers and staff are helpful and Frank as well as supportive.

Class Size: 63Course Fees: INR 11800 per year

Fees and Financial Aid

Total fees rounds up to 64,000. Yes there is an option for SVMCM scholarship. Faculties will guide you how to fill up the form and avail the scholarship. Many intership offers are available. Cognizant, Capgemini,Accenture,Larsen & Tobro, Ericsson visit on campus.

Campus Life

Classes are well maintained. Our Computer Science And Engineering department is very well maintained and well-equipped.Lust green campus.There should be some work on hostels and mess food.Many clubs (technical,social, cultural,sports) are there, students can get into as many clubs.Seniors are interactive and helpful in these clubs. Special mention to the Jyoti- which is not actually a club but a foundation meant to educate children of surrounding areas,and provide them necessary items.

Admission

Appeared for WBJEE examinations. Applied for WBJEEB e-counseling.At 1st round I got Information Technology branch,went to college for document verification(WBJEE rank card, WBJEE seat allotment paper, class X marksheet, class XII marksheet) and applied for upgradation.In 2 nd round I got CSE and some extra documents such as physically fit certificate, Aadhar card were also required for admission process.

Unbiased Review of JGEC

Placement Experience:

At JGEC,campus placements begin mostly from the 6th/final year semester,when students become eligible .I recent years many well-known companies have visited such as Pinnacle Infotech,Synnova Gears & Transmissions Pvt.Ltd,,TCS,Jyesta corporate Entity and many more.The highest package was around 54 LPA form Google ,While the overall average is 10.2LPA.Many students also take internships, industrial training or prepare for higher studies(GATE) rather than accepting direct placement immediately.The exact percentage of student getting palcement is no where.But last year the percentage placed is 70%.

Placement Experience:

Placement opportunities are overall good, students can apply for the placement form 5th and 6th semester and can get PPOs's companies like Microsoft, google, amazon comes during the placement season and every year, so many students get placed even with a package greater than 2cr INR. The average package is around 18 Lakhs.

Placement Experience:

From 3 rd year 4 th semester the students are elligible for campus placements .So many companies visit our college campus .like tata motors,infosys,capegemini,EY,delloite,IBM,texamo limited,LTI limited etc. Here the average placement is 6 to 7 lpa and highest placement is 17 lpa. 80 percent of students are getting placed .

Placement Experience:

Overall the placement percentage of the college is good for both the core and non-core courses almost near 90%. All the students in there 3rd year i.e. in their 5th or 6th semester are elegible for campus placements. A few companies which visit the college are TCS, WIPRO, TECH MAHINDRA, INFOSYS, IBM, COGNIZANT, HUL, HCL, INDIAN OIL, MITSUBSHI, NJ INDIA, D-POWER,ETC. all the companies offer placement. highest on-campus package = inr 33 lakh where as the average is around 6lpa. After the degree, I plan to get a good placement in a core company and opt for GATE.

Placement Experience:

From 8th semester the students get eligible for campus placements . Some good companies like TCS Capgemini Infosys visited campus . Amazon also visited our campus the highest package is about 22 lakhs and average packages 5.5 lakh . about 80% student of CSE , IT and ECE branches get placed.

Unbiased Review of JGEC

I applied to a few other government engineering colleges but i ended up choosing JGEC.The main reasons: JGEC is a well established,fully government owned autonomous college,with good accreditation.It also has a long history since 1961,which made me trust its academic environment.Compared to other colleges i applied to ,JGEC felt more stable and credible.It also has a reasonable structure and good campus infrastructure,labs and oppurtunities for intership .There is also a good scope for higher studies like GATE.The marks vs rank went extremely high in WBJEE 2025.That's why i didn't get a college i applied for which is near my home. You can take admission by giving WBJEE and JELET only.As it is a government college you can only take admission if you get a good rank .There is also different cut-offs for diff catagory.The overall admission process is was very smooth and systematic....Read More

A Deep Dive into JGEC

I did applied for the Jadavpur University but I didn't get an opportunity there . But it was my and my father's wish that I study near my home and as JGEC is not so far from my home I confirmed the seat here. Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College

According to my West Bengal joint entrance examination rank I said for the counselling in the first round I got Kalyani Government Engineering College with IT department but that was with the reservation under EWS quota with rank 2869. As I was not able to get me EWS certificate my admission there was cancelled and then according to my preference I got Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College with electronic and communication engineering department.
