Course Curriculum Overview
I personally can't make any comment on the curriculum because I have not yet read the departments specific syllabus as I am in first year but I opted for electronics and communication engineering as I was interested in the ship industry and the working of the electronic devices I'm looking forward to study from next year.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities available in the college are quite dependable you can easily get a research intern under the professors they guide you to get the internships with other professors of their contact too. Some of the seniors have also done internships with big companies like Google Microsoft etc with stipend.
Placement Experience
The placements of a college a quite good the code department gets approximately 90% on campus placement and the non code department gets almost 70% placement the average package is also 6 lakhs the highest package that was offered last year was 45 lakhs and there are internship also available and some of the students have completed internships with very good companies like Google Microsoft etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
I paid total 12336 rupees for 1st semester. My detailed fee structure that I paid for year 2024 is given below: Admission fees : 1000 College caution money : 300 Medical fees(per session) : 50 Student insurance : 500 University registration fees : 500 Athlatic club fees : 60 Social and cultural fees(per session);social : 420 Student aid fund : 16 Student union/committee fees : 350 Magazine fees(per session) : 100 Student health home fees : 5 Photographic club fees : 25 Trekker's club fees : 50 Nature club fees : 20 Student development fees(MAKAUT) : 2200 Library card & college identitity card : 200 Tution fees for three months(July, August & September) : 3000 Technical club : 290 Library caution money : 3000 Other students activities : 250 And for every month the fee is 1000 rupees only. You can also take the SVMCM scholarship if you are eligible from which you can pay total college and hostel fees.
Campus Life
The overall experience of the college is quite happening we have two fest here. One is the technical fest of a college called as SRISTI which contains different competitions having robotics mechanics and computing skills it also has very high prize pools. The second fest of our college is the social fest called as JECLAT which is considered as the biggest fest of North Bengal. We have different clubs here separate for dance music photography entrepreneurship development computing hacking robotics treking and others. Our annual sports also have many games and prizes for both boys and girls.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility provided by the college is very affordable as it is only 32000 per year including both rent and mess which gives two time meal. The hostel rooms are quotes precious it has different number of accommodations according to the availability and the food quality is also quite good.
Admission
According to my West Bengal joint entrance examination rank I said for the counselling in the first round I got Kalyani Government Engineering College with IT department but that was with the reservation under EWS quota with rank 2869. As I was not able to get me EWS certificate my admission there was cancelled and then according to my preference I got Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College with electronic and communication engineering department. The admission process was quite easy I went to the college for the PI reporting in the college. There were guide teachers who helped us throughout the admission process which was completely online and I got admission in the second round.
Faculty
The course curriculum is not really that tough. If you practice the previous year questions you can easily get 9 CGPA and the professors guide you very well . If you complete the notes given by the professors and study the topics given by them you can easily past examinations. Here we have two internals and and end sems.
Night Life
There is one gym one central library in the college and there are hostel canteens in each of the boys hostel for 1st 2nd 3rd and 4 year but there is no canteen in the ladies hostel. There is a common college canteen in the campus. The in time for the girls hostel is 6:00 p.m. for 1st year. It is 7:00 p.m. for the first year boys hostel.
