Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology (GCELT) is a government institute established in 1919. It is affiliated with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology and has been approved by AICTE. The institute has a 4-year B.Tech, M.Tech, and a certificate course in Shoes and Leather Goods Making. Admission to B.Tech courses is through the WBJEE entrance exam, while MTech admissions are merit-based.

GCELT offers BTech as its flagship program. To be eligible for admission, candidates must secure a minimum of 45% marks in 10+2 (40% in the case of the reserved categories) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. The final selection is based on the WBJEE exam scores. GCELT Cutoff for WBJEE 2024 for General Category BTech admission ranged from 3976 to 11216 ranks. Library: There is a well-constructed library with a collection of more than 18000 books, 16 national journals, and 12 international journals.
Laboratory: The college provides different labs for all subjects in different departments. It has DBMS Lab, Graphics and Multimedia Lab, Instrumentation Lab, Polymer lab and many more
Hostel: The college provides hostel facilities for boys. It provides good accommodation with clean bathrooms and quality meals at cheap rates.

Student view on course curriculum and exams

In the current market, B.Tech is a highly demanded course. After getting B.Tech degree one can have a handsome job in IT sector. That's why I choose the course. Faculties are highly educated and they are very friendly. There are four internal examination in the semester. In the internal exams, getting number is very easy. In the final exam also, if you are a bit regular, passing the exam is not a difficult task.

Top company recruiting from the campus

Students become eligible for campus placement from 6th sem. Many companies visit our college which includes Deloitte, TCS, Hexaware, Infosys, oracle and many more. Last year 42% students were placed. Internship and placement both scenario is better in off campus rather than on campus.

Yearly fees structure and scholarship

In GCELT, in CSE, fees per semester is 6000 And in IT, fees per semester is 12000. Those who are eligible for scholarship, can get scholarship easily. Job scenario is good. Last year 42% students were placed.

Annual fest and various activity in the campus

The campus life is too good. Annual cultural fest is named as RESURRECTION and there is sports fest and tech fest held annually in our college. Library is also filled with books but some of them are old enough. There are cultural club and robotics club and wall magazine club in college.

Admission process and eligibility criteria

GCELT is a government College in west bengal. So through the WBJEE exam one can get admission here. You have to secure a good rank (<7000-8000). After scoring a good rank, there is counseling process based on the rank, got in WBJEE. Then after getting seat in the college, you have to visit the college for verification. Then in the college or the college website, you can find other details about the college. There is SC,ST seat reservation and also seat reservation for economically weaker sections.

Likes

things that i like the most is the college environment is very peaceful and calm. It's suitable for students.
There is no ragging system. Seniors are very friendly and humble.

Dislikes

I mostly dislike the fact that our mechanical workshop is not very well in condition.
The tools and machines are not usable for student.

Admission:

Comparing acedamic strenghts of thus college with others.The quality and availibility of faculities such as librarians, labs, sport complexes and student housing is very good. The atmoshphere and the environment of the college campus is more nice than the other colleges.

Our college location plays vital role for students.

our college is not so moderate. So our lab facility is not so good.

Admission:

If anyone wants to study in this course he shall pass higher secondary with pcm combination with min 60% marks. Then He Shall give WBJEE exam. If he get good rank he can join. In december month online application starts. In april month exam is conducted. exam level is not so tough. To get admission in my college a good rank is needed.

The truth about government colleges in West Bengal

Likes

One will hardly have the energy to visit college regularly so the only thing that i liked is the location of the college

Dislikes

The social life in college is not worth it as there are no tech clubs sports ground tournaments

Admission:

I gave WBJEE and secured a rank of 3230. My marks was 54. I gave a list of colleges along with their respective fields and got selected in this college. Initially I got IT but with passing rounds of counselling I got promoted to CSE.
