There are 2 Major Fests in the college namely Kshitij (Tech Fest) and Spring Fest (Cultural Fest) along with many other small fests that happen from time to time. These generally happen during January or February. There are also many other events such as Illumination (Diwali) and Hall Days. The library contains almost every piece of literature thst you are looking for according to your study need. Classrooms are well lit and spacious consisting of a screen and projector in every room and A.C. in some select classes. Almost every sport is offered on campus and there are sports fests as well. There are also inter college and inter hostel tournaments for every sport offered. There are too many student run social groups and clubs to list here and they are of various domains such as drama, finance, coding etc. They elevate a students social life and also their hobbies. Sometimes they also help in the students C.V. There is also a student portal which is uesed for official college info that is hassle free.

Faculty

The faculty to students ratio is good enough and relationship between faculty and students is professional. But all the Faculties were very helpful and always available to solve doubts of students. M D Goel sir of applied mechanics department and Muttha sir of electrical department I liked the most. there are two exams per semester mid semester and end semester the difficulty of both exams were moderate. And I think course curriculum is not relevant according to the current industry requirements.

Faculty to student relationship is good as they bother about our studies.Faculty members have a good doubt solving skill and we can also clear our doubts from research scholars as well. There is a funny incident of mine, as I am a back bencher in the class so, teachers usually scold me to study. In my mid semester I scored full marks in Math and teachers were surprised. My bonding with faculty members is good.Semester system is followed in my institute. Each semester is of 6 months. 2 exams are conducted in each. One is mid semester exam, which conducted after 2.5 months of semester starting. Other one is end semester exam; along with it a practical exam is also conducted. Well, academics prepare us for real life challenges, as balancing assignments, deadlines, and exams trains you to handle multiple tasks.

Our annual fest Spring Fest trends on social media. Our tech fest Khsitij has seen the highest participation among all the tech fests of country. So likewise our sports fest and every departmental fests too are over the top. Even traditional days and all celebrated as festivals over here. A twinning day too has been started. Our campus is spread in over 2000 acres of land which has greenery and all in abundance. Sports facilities and all are God level too and thats the reason why our college has some top level atheletes who performs at the university level.

IIT KGP is the onlh college that has these many branches. Jharkhand anr Orissa are mining states of India and therefore strategically too IIT Kgp becomes an out and out choice. The feed is 3.5 lakhs a year and even the lower caste students gets just 20% scholarships. Merit and sports based scholarships are also there and that again is something which is something not meant for average students like me.

1:30 i.e Approx 30 students are taught or educated by each professor. Faculty to student ratio is very good and the proffs are quite approachable and very helpful. They are all very passionate and outstanding in their fields. They are working on different projects and also provide students opportunity to assist them. I liked the proff of Electronics dept. whose name was oppili prasad as he taught us relating to the practical life and he taught us as if to educate us not jst like to give lecture and go. I also liked maths proff whose name was vineet and he was great in teaching .i didn't like the proff of mechanical dept whose name was srihari as he jst writes the things on board and tell us to read. There are 2 main exams i.e mid sem and end sem exams. The exams are quite tough and needs consistency and great practice in different problems. Each semester, there are also 1-2 quizzes which constitutes in overall CPI. Many students fail in tough papers like MA101 and ME 102 i.e maths and mechanical subject respectively. Some courses are not quite relevant with current times like in computer science we are taught C language.

Technex is the technical fest and it is held in month of February while kashiyatra is the cultural fest held in month of march. The fests are very splendid and are very fun to attend. The campus life is good and the campus is filled with greenery and it also has an old Vishwanath temple where you can jst go for peace and spirituality. The college has multiple clubs like masquerade (drama) club, COPS(coding), ecell (entrepreneurship), quants(finance), IMS and WMS i.e indian and western music club, also has sports club. Sports -boxing, badminton, swimming, taekwondo, lawn Tennis, squash, table tennis, etc many more games are present. These clubs enhances the personality of students and helps them ace more in life. There is a library which has large range of books available for the students to read or to issue for some duration. There are 4 fests held annually in IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The first one is Concetto. It is held in August. It is a techno-management fest and has a huge budget. There are food stalls, tech exhibitions, dance competition, prom nights, comedy nights where Kullu and Vivek samtani came this year. There well huge prize money kept and a no. Of competitions. There were robowars, quizzes, coding wars, etc. We also had DJ night and EDM nights. There were many guest speakers from prestigious and renowned institutions who gave their insights too. The next fest is the largest techno mining fest of India called Khannan. It was held in october. It was organised by the mining department of the college . Since mining is my branch I took part in numerous events in this fest and enjoyed a lot. There were again prize money quizzes, games, comedy nights, EDM nights, dj night, guest lectures and a beautiful bollywood music night. We also have a filmfest organised by our official videography club of college where everyone is asked to dress like their favourite iconic bollywood characters. It was held in September. We have Srijan , a huge cultural fest organised in February first week. It had dance competition, singing competition, photography, treasure hunt, cooking competition, fying kite contest, rangoli contest, edm nights , dj nights and the impressive Star night where Salim- Suleimani came this year. We also have a sports fest called parakram in March month. There are a huge number of books present in the central library of our college. Almost all books related to tech are present. The classrooms are also well equipped with smart boards and digital projectors and cctvs. There are innumerable activities offered throughout the session by various clubs of our college. There are a lot of clubs , social groups and portals made by students. They are supervised by the Students Gymkhana of our college. We have many NGOs run too which hold blood donation camps. We also have NCC , NSS and yoga.

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose the B.Tech. in Mining engineering course because IIT(ISM) is well known for mining since ages. This year it will complete 100 years. The course is relevant with respect to mining in India and abroad. The curriculum is well defined and the first year subjects were nice too. There are impressive mining labs that spark interest in the subject. The course has quizzes , midsem and endsem. Relative grading is there and professors decide the grades. The projects are relevant and budgets are released by the mining department. The projects are for the first year students. Exam difficulty level is moderate. Professors are well experienced and some of them are alumni of this college too. The schedule and timing of the exams are released a bit early. The teaching methods are good. We have lectures and tutorials. The professors are very approachable and have great experience.

Faculty

faculty to student ratio is almost 10 and faculty to student relationship is quite good and faculty are very approachable and they listen each and every doubt of students. mining department faculties are quite good and my favourite is Mr R.M bhattacharjee as his approach is quite differnt from other faculties as he explains the reasons for every sentence he taught. some of the faculties I personally dont like as they just read the pdfs without even undestanding. In one semester there are two exams namely mid semester and end semester ,before mid and end semester there is quiz and the level of exam is above average and almost all students clear the exams.

Fees and Financial Aid

Year wise fees is 1 lakhs 26 thousands rupees in which Rs26,000 is hostel fees and 1 lakhs is tuition fees. there is no any extra fees for registration, admission, development, lab, and any other compulsory charges. for the sc and st category ,there is no any tuition fees and Rs 26,400 is the hostel fees they paid every year. there is merit cum means scholarships for economically backward students that pays their tuition fees for the whole year.

I have to pay 1 lakh as course fee of every semester but through mcm we can get the refund bit only if family income is less than 1 lakh. There is other criteria too available if you come under a family whose income is under 1 lakh then you should have to pay 0 tution fess if above 1 and between 5 then 33 percent and between 6 then 66 percent.

Placement Experience

Placement season is not too good and too bad too. As ot is an iit the preference are given to all of us among others but as you know some low opportunity with respect to higher oits. The two core nranches mining and petro have great Placement season

Faculty

Good faculty to student ratio. Mentors are provided for 10-15 students. Any time approachable faculty. Faculty of the respective departments are very good their students generally. BS Chowdary sir from mining engineering is a great professor for his way of teaching and knowledge. Md soyeb alam seems to be an arrogant professor and doesn't listen to the queries of the students. Exams are on easy to moderate side. Mid semester and end semester examination in each semester. Course is sufficient to write exams well.

Placement Experience

Students can sit in the placements once they feel that they're ready, generally after 3rd year. Many companies like ICICI Bank, Microsoft, Google, Phonepe etc. visit our college for taking the students. Average offers by a company lies around 10. Average package is around 14lakhs combining all courses. Highest package is 2cr. 87% of students got placed. My plans are to get a degree and just opt for a job.

Course Curriculum Overview

The curriculum for the first year covers mostly the basic of engineering as a whole to teach you provblem solving, critical thinking , visualization improvement and human interactions. You may also find some subjects easiers or harder than the other. But each has their own use in developing some part of your thinking process. You may ask sometimes what is even the point of studying things you will never use. But the subjects teach you the way of thinking.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fees is about 150000 per year And the hostel and mess fees is about 64000 per year Their is a fee remission for poeple with family income between 1lakh to 5 lakh per year. Internships Opportunities

Getting an internship is a very difficult task as compared to placements. The biggest negative point is the tactics played by TPC members who always push their friends into getting an internship easily, and cutting upon students who actually deserve. This happens during the end of internships and not at an early stage. The stipened varies from 30,000PM to even 4lakhs per month. The average is 1 lakh PM. Number of companies: approx 100

Faculty

There are 14 section for 1st year students. Around 1000 students are there in 1st year they are devided as S1,S2 to S14. In which each section has around 70-80 students are there. So student teacher ratio is around 80:01. As I already told teachers are very helpful for us specially when the class is start because no one knows more about the subject. Some times it is happened that teachers go more deeply in a concept mainly in physics which may lead to going to bounce for students ????. For me our physics faculty "Ajit Km sir"which is also HOD of physics department is best this is because I am more interested in physics from 9th. And he (phy sir) teaching us with in-depth knowledge like special theory of relativity and quantum mechanics.i remember he is connecting differential equation to machine which is used to measure heart function.. :-There is no such teachers that I deslike them after all they have more knowledge then me that's why they are teaching us ... And yeah I am not satisfied with ece teacher the reason behind it is he is directly writing content from his note. Which is important but it creates some confusion because some time he wrote wrong things on board means other than our syllabus. :- There are 4 exams for 1 semester:- quiz-1, Mid-sem, quiz -2, End-sem Quiz 1 has 10 % ,weightage, midsem -30%, quiz 2-15%, End-sem 30 to 40% .. weightage may be vary depending upon professors and their is also some surprise Quizzes which is not compulsory but our physics faculty conducted one surprise Quiz. This year many students fail in maths exam in my section 12 students failed.. But there is a twist if u failed in final exam after concluding all persentage then u have a chance after End-sem to pass the exam of u didn't clear that last chance then u get back in that subject. And there is no student in our section who failed in that means in our section no student get back... For 1st yr all students have to read all subjects like we are from core and learning python.

The main fest at nitk is engi24 which is held on after mid sem budget of this fest is around 150cr our senior said about it.and other fest are also there like "incident" is 2nd big fest at nitk Our library is too good infrastructure and made in very large area and around 1lakh 26thousand books are there . For 1st year students there is a special building in our college called 'cids' in which all 1st yr student class will be helded and all classes have projector with a large board and fans are there. And 24/7 light are there. As I already told we have a large sport complex in which many games are there and also we have a large ground in which football as well cricket matches are playing by students. We have one basketball court, one volleyball court, 4 badminton nets are there in which around 16 people plays simultaneously. Our college have 4 Gym in which one is central which is very large two is for senior boys and other for senior girls.1st yr students can joined central gym for their fitness.in 2024 there is a national level Swimming pool at nitk . Our college inogreate inter nit competition in which all 32 nits students are participating in all types of games and wining the prices and this inter nit competition is very famous and usefull for athelete students.. There is a student name kirtan proposed his startup named advista which is getting an offer of 4cr from investor and many other examples are there for startup this is because of Fbsc and E-cell like clubs...

Ques. What is the scope and the average salary of mining engineering at IIT Kharagpur?

● Top Answer By Anumita Chatterjee on 23 Mar 23

Ans. The scope of Mining is very limited and can be accessed only if you are truly interested in Mining and are serious about pursuing a career in the same. I suggest you pursue higher education in Mining from an elite foreign university like Colorado School of Mines, Royal School of Mines, and University of New South Wales. This will nurture your technical skills to the best. Another suggestion in this regard is that you can also go for ISM. The enthusiasm for Mining at ISM is like nowhere else. However, if you are after a good package rather than pursuing your enthusiasm, then IIT KGP is a better option. IIT KGP has an abundance of opportunities for the students academic environment is second to none. It offers extensive exposure and is thus most preferred by Engineering students of all branches.  As far as recruiters are concerned, a large number of them offer jobs to students at IIT KGP mainly because of the credibility of the Institute irrespective of the branch. Also, very few companies offer core jobs in Mining. Therefore, most mining students end up with non-core jobs. Some Core Companies for Mining visiting IIT KGP are Tata Steel Coal India ltd Vedanta Resources Jindal Steel Ltd The average CTC is around 8 LPA.  Read more

Ques. How is Mining Engineering at NIT Raipur? What can I expect my starting package to be (roughly)?

● Top Answer By Satyam Purwar on 12 Sept 23

Ans. NIT Raipur Mining Engineering is one of the best in the country. However, the prospects are very challenging so you will have to work hard to excel in this field. If you are confused about any branch, go through its strengths and weaknesses. For instance, a mining engineer gets paid handsomely but his working conditions are very challenging and may even affect his health.  Generally, the placement scenario of branches like CSE, IT, and mining is very good. Last year 62 offers were made to 70 eligible students. I asked my friend for the detailed statistics and here is what he shared  The maximum salary package offered was 55 LPA. The minimum salary package offered ranges between 15 LPA - 25 LPA.  Around 85% of students got placed in various tech and non-tech companies.  Top recruiting companies are Vedantu, Adani, JSW, and Tata Steel.  About 40% of students got internships in non-core companies. Overall, the mining engineering branch is a good choice if you are genuinely interested in the field.Read more

Ques. Should I join IIT Kharagpur mining engineering just for IIT Tag?

● Top Answer By Senjuti Gupta on 23 Mar 23

Ans. Joining a certain branch that you are not even interested in just for the IIT tag is not the most logical decision. One usually decides on a certain branch for 3 reasons; either to get a good package or to pursue your area of interest or to follow the majority. However, in the case of Mining Engineering, this is not the case at all. You won’t be available to avail either of these benefits because of its low demand. In fact you will end up with the following circumstances You will have to work extremely hard in the first year in order to get a branch change In case you are unable to get a branch change, you will start running after POR, join different clubs to work on your non Engineering abilities. During placements you will be more inclined towards Non-Core placements because of your aversion to Mining. Still, if you are adamant about getting into IIT, then join only if  You want to work in analytics, consult or analyst after 4 years instead of Engineering  If you want to pursue MBA from an IIM If you want to switch your field after graduation. The reason why I am suggesting you give up Engineering is that with Mining, you can literally pursue anything other than Engineering. So it’s better you make up your mind for the same or apply to other institutes.Read more

Ques. Is it worth joining mining in NIT Raipur, which I got in 3rd round, in terms of placement?

● Top Answer By Aditya Mishra on 12 Sept 23

Ans. Given your rank of 2900, it would be very difficult to get CSE in these colleges. So you need a lot of luck during the Spot Counseling. If anyone withdraws their admission at the last moment from the CSE branch of these colleges then you might get admission.  There are chances of getting a seat in MSIT or BVCoE, but it is very difficult in MAIT. Here are the recent cutoff trends of both MAIT and BVCoE MAIT Cutoff 2022 Round JEE Main IPU-CET Round 1 19671 22910 Round 2 26701 - Round 3 28594 BVCoE Cutoff 2022 Round  JEE Main IPU CET Round 1 33640 36573 Round 2 41775 41775 Round 3 42573 42573 Although the chances of getting CSE are low, you might get EEE with this rank. You can upgrade your branch to CSE by working hard.Read more

Ques. Which is better, mining in IIT Kharagpur or mechanical in IIT Patna?

● Top Answer By Vishal Sharma on 20 Jun 24

Ans. First of all you need to lose this ideology that mechanical has more scope and mining has less scope. Every field has top notch research going in it and provides dynamic and challenging work opportunities.  I also had the same dilemma and I chose Mining at IIT Kharagpur over other departments for to following reasons:- IIT Kharagpur is famous for its Mining branch which is one of the core branches in b.tech. IIT Kharagpur is ranked 6th in the NIRF ranking while IIT Patna is Ranked 41th . IIT Kharagpur has a Median Salary of 16 LPA while IIT Patna is at 12 LPA . IIT Kharagpur is one of the oldest institutes in India established in 1951. Coal India also comes for recruitment at IIT Kharagpur and international companies like Rio Tinto come for recruitment process.Read more

Ques. Where should I enroll, NIT Surathkal (mining engineering) or PES University (computer science)?

● Top Answer By Aditi Sinha on 11 May 22

Ans. There is no clear winner in this comparison. If you are interested in Mining Engineering and want to learn fundamental and core technicalities, then NIT Surathkal will be better. As an institute, NITK is better than other engineering colleges in Karnataka. It offers better academics, exposure, facilities, and campus life. For Mining, NIT Surtahkal placements are great. Coal India visits NITK for recruiting students. The average CTC received by the students of this bench is INR 5-6 LPA. But if you aren’t particularly interested in Mining Engineering, then you should choose CSE at PES University. In the current industry landscape, CSE offers better placements with cushy salary packages. Read more

Ques. How is IIT Dhanbad (mineral engineering)?

● Top Answer By Ankit Sharma on 24 Nov 23

Ans. As a former student of Mineral Engineering at IIT Dhanbad, I will offer some insight into my department- Advantages The number of lectures and syllabus of Mineral Engineering are quite manageable. With some effort, you’ll easily score a good CGPA in all your semesters. The course will give you free time to study for CAT/GRE/UPSC, or to practice coding. The department allows more freedom to enjoy campus life and perform other activities on the side. Disadvantages You can’t write the GATE exam. Very few core companies visit the campus, and the placement scenario is in a poor state for Mineral students. However, with good communication skills and an 8+ CGPA, you can hope to get placed in a good organization. The curriculum is light, so you’ll severely lag behind foreign university students. The package offered to Mineral students stands nowhere compared to that grabbed by CSE students. But despite the disadvantages, you’ll have to make peace with the fact that your rank isn’t enough for CSE. Also, not everyone in CSE performs exceptionally.  Mineral Engineering (especially at IIT Dhanbad) has very limited scope, but it offers you ample freedom and time to work on your skills and build your future. Read more

Ques. I am getting mining engineering in NIT Raipur. Should I take it or drop a year?

● Top Answer By Ragini Kanodia on 08 Apr 21

Ans. NIT Raipur started with the Mining, Metallurgy, and Mechanical branches. These branches are highly regarded in the institute. An acquaintance of mine who is an NIT Raipur alumnus advises against dropping out. Even after dropping out a year, some students sadly do not live up to the expectations they had set for themselves. The best option in NIT Raipur is arguably mining. Some of the students of NIT Raipur prepared for the JEE to appear for a second time and they were able to score big.  I do agree with my friend that it will be better if you pursue your studies along with the preparation for JEE Main. This way you will have a sense of security and a contingency plan if things don’t turn out as planned.Read more
