Course Curriculum Overview

My interest in computers and technology made me choose this course and the increasing trends also made choose this course. curriculum was i would say is progressing some subjects seem irrevelent in 1st year but after that you will like it and enjoy also , in short inetresting subject in 2nd year and 3rd year also. Area of improvement will be , ability to choose optional subject of thier own choice , not dependent on the number of seats or who came first method. the frequency of exams is 6 months but you will get knwo that it will take only 3 to 4 months to complete syllabus and other days include holidays and all. exams are easy if you study in advance and be disciplined throught the semester.

Campus Life

Internships Opportunities

Did not do internship but got to know that over 350 students from our batch were hired for internships, with stipends ranging from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 40,000 per month . Top recruiters like Godrej, Snapdeal, and Decathlon have come to our campus, offering profiles in fields like marketing, finance, and more. When it comes to placements, our college has an impressive track record. The highest package offered during the 2023 placement drive was a whopping INR 36 LPA, with an average package of INR 5.70 LPA .

Course Curriculum Overview

My course is B.Sc computer science hons and curriculum is recently updated as a result of nep 2020. We have three core subjects, one value added subject, one skill enhancement subject and other one is environmental sciences.since curriculum is update ,it focues on skill enhancement by making student learn about programming language and new subjects ehich are helpful to them.one suggestion from my side is that du should focus more application based learning rather theoritical learning.

Campus Life

Faculty

I can't say for the whole college but in our department the ratio was around 1:20. They were good and approachable too. They had great insight to solve our queries. Don't remember the name but the librarian were best. They understood our situation and didn't fine us unnecessarily. And the worst faculty would be lab assistant they were just annoyed every time . We had 5 exams per semester and usually 1or 2 students used to fail.

Campus Life

We used to have proud in our library as it was one of the best in whole university so they had a very vast range of books and journals. Classrooms were average like they did not get air conditioners but had good ventilation. Also had projectors which were used 2-4 times in whole year. We also had many sports teams which used to play for our college and compete at the larger stages.

Their are many fests held across du open for all du students, their are many student hang-out spots near all du colleges and this college specifically is next to a mall. The library is fairly well-kept and the range of books is also helpful, the tech facilities for computer science students are sub-par but the tech facilities for the commerce department is legendary due to bias and favoritism, this college is known for its sports facilities and it shows from a firing range to a competition level cricket field. Their are too many student led clubs to even remember and all are doing incredible work

Faculty

5:60 faculty-student ratio, some members of faculty are very approachable but most are not, the computer science hod is very friendly and approachable, the entire english department is friendly, most of the commerce faculty has a holier-than-thou attitude. 6 exams per subject in 1 semezter including practicals and internals

Course Curriculum Overview

The curriculum was highly relevant and comprehensive. It aligns with industry needs by covering programming, data structures, AI, and emerging technologies. It balances theory and practical skills with modules on algorithms, databases, networking, and software development. Hands-on projects and internships prepare students for real-world applications. While strong in fundamentals, periodic updates to include technologies like blockchain or quantum computing and more focus on soft skills can enhance its effectiveness.

Faculty

The faculty was not that upto the mark as compared to other colleges. Some teachers just read the pdf from english to hindi and was like unit is completed. The marking scheme was good 5 marks for attendance..So need toh worry about getting detain if you didn't attend any class still you can give exams and only 5 marks will be deducted from your internals. Course structure was same as btech course including all the topics from dsa to programming languages

Faculty

Most of the faculties are where educated and they always help the students to get through all the exams. The head of our department Dr apratim nag sir is a great teacher, also Dr Rajashree Krishna nath and Dr Indira dey. All of them are well educated and they always help all the students they also encourage us to give exams related to physics. If I talk about exams so in every semester we have to give internal exams and then we have to give the university exam for passing our semester and then we need to give the practical exams. But practical exams are not for all departments. Most of the exams are very easy the internal exams are easy as well and the marks add up to the final mark. Internal exams are of 20 marks and practical exams are of 30 marks there for the internal and practical exam adds up to 50 marks. The rest 50 marks are from the University semester exams. The exams are very moderate to difficult some questions are repeated from the previous year papers. So if a student follows the previous year paper and attends the class properly then he can get through all the exam. The marks are given as CGPA and sgpa.

Fees and Financial Aid

The admission fees was 7000 for my course. After that there were no additional charges after I took the admission. Before my semester exams I need to pay a lump sum amount of 900 rupees. 600 for university form fill up and 250 or 300 for centre fee payment. 2nd year we need to pay 5000 for new admission and in 3rd year we need to pay 5000 for the last admission. In this way this is the amount I have been paying. Apart from this we get rupees 1000 every month in our bank account for buying books from the Government of Assam. And there are many others scholarship schemes also for 12th students. And one more thing that I want to include is that the student who are economically backward that is the people who have their annual income less than 2 lakh or so they can apply for fee wavier where they are exempted from pain any kind of examination fee. This is need to pay rupees 200 for the centre fee. Also there are other scholarship schemes by the government of Assam that the students can apply. Campus Life

The infrastructure was not that much developed. Fest occurs once i in a year but not every year in the month of february There was a shortage of books every time I visit library. It was really dissapointing. There was not that much sports and extra curricular activities on the campus but yes there were some clubs which were no that much active.

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose this course because i wanted to study computer science and get a degree in it. The course policy in my branch is not much effective and does not makes you market ready. Rather you have to focus on your skills and other sources to study. For teaching they should focus on practical things also.

Ques. Why is the cutoff for computer science in Thapar lower than that of NIT Jalandhar?

● Top Answer By Ayush Agarwal on 03 Dec 22

Ans. The cutoff for computer science in Thapar has seen a fall in figures. This is because of the decrease in the fame of this college. There are so many better and popular institutes that people usually don’t consider Thapar as their first choice. Even big companies prefer students from IITs, BITS or DTU. Students themselves opt for IIT because of its tag. They know the IIT tag will always be a boon for them. The general decrease in its popularity has resulted in lower cutoffs and the situation seems to be worsening over the years to come.Read more

Ques. Which is the better college between Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and ARSD College for a B.Sc. in Computer Science (Hons), mainly in terms of faculty and course-related infrastructure such as computer

● Top Answer By Praniti Arora on 26 Nov 21

Ans. It may not be right to compare the colleges under DU among each other. As most of them have similar curriculum and teaching techniques. But if infrastructure is considered Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC) is far better than other colleges under DU. As it is a newly established institution, the facilities provided are upgraded with the latest technology.  They also are known to have a very highly experienced faculty, some of them even having 20-30 years of teaching experience. DDUC is popular for its Science and Commerce streams. Therefore if you wish to choose among DDUC and ARSD College for an Honours degree in Computer Science, it is suggested that you go for the former rather than the latter.Read more

Ques. Which course is better, an MSc. in finance from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management, Mumbai, or NMIMS, Mumbai or MSc. in financial engineering from IFMR, Chennai?

● Top Answer By Apoorva Katnik on 14 Mar 23

Ans.  If you are considering pursuing a Master of Science (M Sc) degree from NMIMS, it is important to do some further research on the recognition of the degree. However, an MBA from their Mumbai campus can be a good option to consider. On the other hand, IFMR offers only MBA and Ph.D. programs, so it is not possible to pursue an M.Sc from there. As for JBIMS, it is the most prestigious institution in Mumbai, but there have been some concerns raised about the accuracy of their placement salary data. Additionally, the selection process for their M Sc course is quite competitive, with only 30 seats available for the program and a large number of candidates competing for those spots. Considering your interest in finance, it would be beneficial to aim for admission to a top-notch business school like XLRI, which is renowned for its finance program. Another option would be to gain experience in the industry and pursue a finance course such as CFA or FRM, which would make you eligible for admission to world-renowned business schools such as the Indian School of Business.Read more
