SLS LL.B. FAQs
Ques. Is the 3-Year LL.B. at SLS Pune a full-time programme? Can I work part-time while studying?
Ans. The 3-Year LL.B. at SLS Pune is a strictly full-time, on-campus programme. Attendance is mandatory and strictly monitored. Students are expected to be present for all lectures, seminars, and practical sessions. As noted by alumni, unlike some government law colleges where attendance is flexible, SLS Pune requires students to attend college full-time. Internships can only be done during vacation periods. Working part-time alongside the programme is therefore not feasible for most students.
Ques. What is the AIAT exam pattern and how should I prepare for it?
Ans. The AIAT (All India Admission Test) for the 3-Year LL.B. at SLS Pune consists of three components: a Writing Sample (two subjective questions on social, political, and legal issues, 40 marks, 65 minutes), 10 MCQs on general knowledge, legal reasoning, and reading comprehension (20 marks), and an Online Psychometric Test (10 marks, 20 minutes). The total is 70 marks. The writing sample carries the highest weightage, so candidates should focus on developing clear, structured arguments on current legal and social issues. Reading newspapers, following legal developments, and practising essay writing are the most effective preparation strategies.
Ques. What is the actual placement scenario for the 3-Year LL.B. at SLS Pune? Is it comparable to the 5-year programme?
Ans. Placements for the 3-Year LL.B. at SLS Pune are generally considered decent but not at par with the 5-year integrated programmes in terms of volume. The batch size is small (60 students), and many students pursue higher studies (LL.M.) or judiciary exams after graduation rather than campus placements. Students who actively participate in moots, internships, and clinics during the programme tend to secure roles in law firms, in-house legal teams, or litigation practice. Top performers have been placed at leading law firms. The Career and Professional Development Cell facilitates campus recruitment, but proactive networking and internships during the programme are critical for strong placement outcomes.
Ques. Does SLS Pune offer any international exchange or study abroad opportunities for 3-Year LL.B. students?
Ans. Yes, SLS Pune has active international collaborations with over 20 universities globally, including Penn State University (USA), University College Cork (Ireland), National University of Singapore, Deakin University (Australia), and several European universities under Erasmus+ grants. 3-Year LL.B. students may be eligible for student exchange programmes, summer schools, and international conferences facilitated through these collaborations. The EURASIA project has also incorporated EU studies electives into the LL.B. curriculum. Students interested in international opportunities should contact the SLS Pune international affairs office early in their programme.
Ques. What is the waiting list process at SLS Pune for the 3-Year LL.B.? How many merit lists are typically released?
Ans. SLS Pune typically releases two merit lists for the 3-Year LL.B. programme. For the 2026-27 batch, the First Merit List was announced on 23rd January 2026 and the Second Merit List on 5th February 2026. If seats remain vacant after the second merit list, a third or subsequent list may be released, though this is not always the case given the high demand for the programme. Candidates on the waiting list should remain available and keep their documents ready. A waiting list number of 3 or below generally has a reasonable chance of conversion, depending on the year and the number of candidates who decline their seats.
Ques. Are there any scholarships specifically for the 3-Year LL.B. programme at SLS Pune, and how competitive are they?
Ans. There is no dedicated entry-level scholarship for the 3-Year LL.B. at SLS Pune (unlike the 5-year programmes which have SLAT-topper scholarships). However, once enrolled, students can earn the SIU Merit Scholarship for Semester Toppers, which is awarded to the top 4 students in order of merit from each semester. This is a performance-based scholarship and is competitive given the small batch size of 60 students. Additionally, students from the North-East Region, economically backward girl students from SIU-identified villages, and students with disabilities may be eligible for specific SIU scholarships. Government scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) are also available for eligible SC/ST/OBC/Minority/PwD students.
