SLS Pune: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 11 Reviews

The university's admission process is comprehensive, starting with an entrance test and followed by two interview rounds. Three merit lists are released to confirm admissions. The faculty, composed of graduates from top National Law Universities and PhD holders, is highly regarded, and a mentor-mentee system supports students academically and personally. The academic year is divided into two semesters, with exams in November and May, where 80% of students typically pass.

Tuition fees are around INR 2.5 lakhs annually, considered high for middle or lower-class families. The total cost for a 5-year law course is approximately INR 23 lakhs, excluding living expenses, with a 10% fee increase each year. Additional charges include a Rs. 20,000 institute deposit and Rs. 5,000 library fee. Scholarships are available for SC, ST, economically backward sections, sports excellence, and academic performance. The college has a robust placement record, with companies like TRILEGAL, AZB PARTNERS, and Bharti Airtel hiring graduates.

The highest package last year was INR 21 lakhs, with an average of INR 12-14 lakhs. About 75% of students secure placements, starting from the fourth year. The Career and Development Cell actively assists with placements, and various internships are offered to complement students' academic growth. Students can explore scholarships provided by state and central governments, though the college itself doesn't offer education loans directly. Those admitted through management quota pay higher fees.

SLS BALLB (Hons.) FAQs

Ques. Is CLAT score accepted for admission to BA LLB at SLS Pune, or is SLAT mandatory?

Ans. SLAT (Symbiosis Law Admission Test) is the only accepted entrance exam for admission to BA LLB (Honours) at SLS Pune. CLAT scores are not accepted under any circumstances. You must register separately for SLAT and also pay the SLS Pune programme registration fee of Rs. 1,000 while filling the SLAT form. If you register for SLAT but do not pay the SLS Pune programme fee, you will not be eligible for the PI round at SLS Pune, even if you score well in SLAT.

Ques. What is the weightage of SLAT vs PI in the final merit list, and what is the PI like?

Ans. The final merit list at SLS Pune is prepared with 70% weightage to the SLAT score and 30% weightage to the Personal Interaction (PI). The PI is conducted online by a panel of experts from industry and academia. It tests your personal attributes, inclination towards law as a career, overall personality, communication skills, extracurricular and co-curricular activities, and elementary knowledge of law. It is not a technical legal interview; rather, it assesses your overall suitability for a legal career. Candidates are advised to be well-prepared on current affairs, their reasons for choosing law, and any co-curricular achievements.

Ques. Can I appear for SLAT on both dates (December 20 and December 28)? Which score will be considered?

Ans. Yes, you can appear for SLAT on both dates by selecting both slots in the application form. If you appear on both dates, the higher of the two scores will be considered for the final percentile calculation. There is no normalization between the two slots. This gives aspirants a second chance to improve their score, which is a significant advantage over single-attempt entrance exams.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for first-year BA LLB students at SLS Pune?

Ans. Hostel accommodation at SLS Pune is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. The campus has multiple hostel buildings (Daffodil, Daisy, Orchid, Tulip, Kopou) with varying fee structures depending on the building and type of sharing (twin or triple). Hostel is not compulsory, but it is highly recommended for outstation students given the campus location near Pune Airport in Viman Nagar. Students are advised to apply for hostel early as seats fill up quickly. The hostel security deposit of Rs. 20,000 is refundable at the time of vacating.

Ques. What is the difference between BA LLB and BBA LLB at SLS Pune? Does it affect career prospects?

Ans. The BA LLB and BBA LLB programmes at SLS Pune differ only in the first-degree component: BA LLB integrates humanities subjects (History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology) while BBA LLB integrates business administration subjects. The law courses in both programmes are identical. In terms of career prospects, both degrees are equally valued by law firms, corporates, and the judiciary. BA LLB is generally preferred by students inclined towards litigation, civil services, policy, and academia, while BBA LLB is popular among those targeting corporate law and in-house counsel roles. However, there is no formal restriction, and graduates of both streams are eligible for all legal career paths.

Ques. What is the total cost of studying BA LLB at SLS Pune for 5 years, including hostel?

Ans. The total academic fee for 5 years is Rs. 25,30,000 (Rs. 5,06,000 per year x 5), plus a one-time refundable Institute Deposit of Rs. 20,000. If you opt for hostel accommodation, the annual hostel and mess fee ranges from approximately Rs. 2,50,000 to Rs. 2,97,600 depending on the hostel building and sharing type. Over 5 years, the total cost including hostel and mess (assuming no annual increase) would be approximately Rs. 37.8 lakh to Rs. 40.2 lakh. Actual costs may be higher due to annual revisions in hostel and mess fees (typically up to 10% per year), books, travel, and personal expenses.

SLS Pune is top ranked private law school in India. Fees is definitely little high as for an academic year around 4 lakhs has to be paid to study from here. It is a tough gig to get admission here but once you get it the fees can be arranged via bank loans and even the college provides a lot of scholarship not just for students of reserved caste but to students who are EWS families.
