Likes

Various big companies offering a good package comes to college every year and a good number of student get placements every year.
A good faculty having a great mentor skills and expertise in different subjects, teachers are helpful and coordinator.
There are not as many fests as in other colleges but we do have a good number of clubs and societies that makes college life interesting and exciting.

Dislikes

The annual fest is very nice and happening but the regular college life is close to hell if you are an average student.
The fines are more in this college and students faces a lot of problems
The professors are unfriendly and sometimes very rude and not understanding. also i find them pretentious.

SXC Kolkata is a gem of a college.

Likes

Best in class facilities for the labs as computer labs here are of top quality.
Girls have complete freedom as even though the college is run by father's, girls get equal opportunities here.

Dislikes

Very strict in attendance and dress code as one has to maintain both at all costs.
Strictness is so rigid that personal creativity and expression too sometimes take the back seat.

Computers are so vast that masters is mandatory and therefore I have certain plans for that. However big scale IT companies come here and students of Computer science Hons have had placements worth 6-10 lakhs easily. My plans are to appear for the job interviews but not taking any as I want to study more.

SXC is invaluable to me!

Assignments and projects related to industry are provided to B Com (Hons) students.

Dislikes

Very strict dres code as we can freely move inside the campus but we can't wear what we like.
Girls are not allowed in the morning batch as that batch is reserved only for boys.

Placement Experience:

Highest package of our program has been 20 lakhs. Companies like EY, DeShaw, ITC, CESC and many others which are multi billion dollar groups were the ones which are invited for placements. Batch size including morning and evening is of 400 students and nearly 200 gets placements in dream companies. Roles of business analyst and accounting are provided and SAP is taught in our college so those who know that gets job easily.

SXC is an old pedigree!

Likes

SXC Kolkata has the best academic calendar as it has taken care that students should get unwinding time too.
Students have started and incubation centre and have brought in sponsors to fund start-ups.

Dislikes

College timings are not for lazy people like me as the lectures begin as early as 6 am.
If one hasn't made it to the college football team, he is not allowed to play on the turf.
Dress code is also very strict as even on days we are allowed civil uniforms, we still can't wear if it's not traditional.

Placement Experience:

Companies of all domains like the Asian Paints, EY, Nestle and HDFC Bank among all of them come to SXC. Biggest placements so far has been of 20 lakhs or so when one of the student was placedat such a package in 2024.

SXC Kolkata is a niche college!!

Likes

College has enough security as everyone inside the campus can feel as secured as they want to.
College auditorium is the best part of our whole infrastructure as it has been upgraded and it's now of highest standards.
Students quality is amazing as most of them are the ones who have scored over 90% so one can imagine the kind of intellectualness they must be having.

Dislikes

Dress code is mandatory and without that entry is denied.
Since I am in the morning college of SXC our classes starts as early as 6 am daily.

At our college placements are good and many core companies or finance and IT are here for placements and intenrships as well. Average placements from what I have checked is around 4-5 lakhs per year for B.Com (Hons) students.

SXC means love with hardship!

Likes

Placements are quality and luckily both morning and evening college gets same opportunity for placements.
Infrastructure is amazing and has everything inclusive be it a great library or best auditorium.
Faculties are top level as all of them have secured medals from their respective universities from they come.

Dislikes

There has to have a hostel as most students are outsiders.

Placement Experience:

Placements wise there's no partiality as both the colleges have combined placements round. Around 400+ B.Com students sit together for placements and around 250 of them were placed in 2024-2025 batch.

SXC is super special!

Likes

SXC has a library which is bigger than that of Calcutta University.
Our college also has a bakery and it is best desert centre.
We also have two auditoriums and guest lectures and events are also held in those auditoriums.

Dislikes

Since we have all three branches of Science, Commerce and Arts, it is an over crowded campus.

Placement Experience:

EY, PWC, Unacademy, and Deloitte are some of the big names which came last year and has been coming since long. SXC is renowned and placements are great as even B.Com (Hons) have students who have bagged packages worth 20 lakhs or so.

St. Xavier's College Kolkata Review

Likes

Highly competent and qualified faculty that teaches well. Fairly interactive classes.
High level of discipline - leads to better character growth needed for the corporate world.
Large amount of extra-curriculars offered - helps students build their profile outside of academics.

Dislikes

Outdated infrastructure - no air conditioners in a class room of 80 people with four people sitting in one bench.
Excessive academic and social pressure - almost feels like a school
Unfriendly administration - while professors are friendly enough, administration and security staff may come off and unapproachable

Placement Experience:

The college has a distinguished student placement cell which has successfully placed hundred of students in large, well-known companies. Students in the final year of their course who are interested in getting placed have to register themselves with the placement cell. The placement cell has brought over 70 companies to the campus. Over 550 students have been placed and more the 100 internships offered with the package ranging from 4 lakhs to 36 lakhs per annum.

Through my Eyes

Likes

The rooms have ACs and therefore classes are not hectic duriong summers.
The library is amazing with all course related books available and the reading rooms for a peaceful space.

Dislikes

The day batch does not have consecutive classes and so multiple gaps in between stretch the day. It overall becomes very exhausting.
The canteens have both veg and non veg served. So as a pure vegetarian I can't have anything other than packaged food.
Excessive examinations conducted very frequently.

Placement Experience:

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. Many prepare for exams like GATE, IIT JAM, etc.

My experience at St. Xavier's

Likes

I like the infrastructure. The toilets are clean and accessible, our classrooms are air conditioned, we have two canteens and there is clean, cold drinking water readily available.
the professors are friendly and helpful. They do not intimidate you, and allow you to ask questions and clear doubts freely.
I appreciate the cleanliness and maintainance of the college. The environment is very well taken care of and the staff is to be thanked for that.

Dislikes

I do not like the dress code i think it is archaic to not allow students to wear ripped jeans or sleeveless clothes. It is a hindrance to the students' self expression. Sleeveless clothing is not in any way vulgar.
I believe it is unfair to have a seminar or workshop for over 4 hours, where student are not allowed to leave midway and then not offering them any food packets. I have not seen this in any other institutes.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course theory helps us gain a solid understanding of the subject matter. Film studies and Mass Communication theory classes has laid down the foundation of the subject- from what is a shot and the kinds of shots and angles, to the beginning of radio in India and essays by CS Pierce and John Berger. The course also includes practical classes in the sound labs, editing labs and we will learn to use a camera, as one of the things we will have to do in this course is make films of our own.

St Xavier's College Kolkata- a place that builds leaders.

Placement Experience:

Our college has a very active placement cell that fetches jobs for everyone who needs and deserve it. The highest package was 24 lacs per annum last year and it is only expected to go up this round almost all students to set for placements are placed but in my department specifically most opt for higher studies like myself.
