SSC West Bengal Admission Process

SSC West Bengal offers admission to various courses ranging from UG courses like B.Com {Hons.}, B.A. {Hons.} to PG courses like M.Com & M.A. in various specializations. The UG admission is based on the marks obtained in the 10+2 examination on the basis of Merit.
Admission to PG courses is based on the marks obtained in graduation. Admission to the B.Ed course is done on the basis of marks scored in Graduation / Post Graduation and 20% weightage is given to candidates based on personal interviews.

Additional INR 100 under the Head University Migration Fees is applicable for students coming from other State Boards, only it is not applicable to SC, CBSE and NIOS.Admission / Semester fees are to be paid by the students ONLINE. Fees refund will be considered on the basis of guidelines issued by Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal.The applicable admission fee is to be paid online by Debit Card / Credit Card / Net Banking.

College provides diverse cultural clubs and societies which enrich students.
College has very well maintained campus and bathrooms.
College has able faculty who impart knowledge effectively.

Dislikes

There is high groupism among club mates. Outsiders find hard to get in or make their place
Everytime there is a college programme if sponsors are not available students are to chip in money.
Classes are regularly cancelled and professors are not there half of the time.

Students view on course curriculum

The practical syllabus with equal amount of focus on theory ensuring both theory and practical is catered to is what drew me to the program. Yes, some practical aspects are taught well which enhances real world applicability. However more practical rigorous syllabus is required. The course curriculum can be improved with the introduction of more Skill Enhancement Courses ( SEC) PAPERs The exams are not that difficult. It occurs twice a year every six months.

Various companies recruiting from the campus

From semester 7 students become eligible for campus placements. Many companies visit like TCS, Mirchi Bangla, ABP Ananda, Zee 24 Ghanta many such companies come. Many new entrepreneurship ventures come too. College has an active placement cell. New companies come every year. Most of the students almost 60 percent eligible people get placed. I plan to go into public relations or advertising after this degree.

What is the total fees of the course and scholarship option available in the college?

The fees per semester is 33000. So the year wise fees stand at 66000. It is a four year programme. Total fees stand at 264000. All batchmates have to pay the same. Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship is available. Shri Shikshayatan provides freesjip to eligible students where entire fees are exempted.

Events organized, clubs and facilities available in the campus

The college has numerous annual festivals like Elysium (media fest), Srijan (college fest) , Shree. Each club has its own fests. Entrepreneurship cell conducts a fest. Bcom students call for many entrepreneurship programmes. All in all Shri Shikshayatan has a robust campus life. Books and accessibility is endless. There are more than 10000+ books. Library is huge. Journals are available too There are smart boards and AC in classroom. Classrooms are mat finished and hi tech. They are huge and spacious. There are projectors. Computer and media labs are available. College provides diverse range of sports like volleyball, badminton, basketball etc. The college has a huge playground. Student portal is there to ease everything. Student Council heads everything. Clubs include Yukti (Theatre Club), Debsoc (debating society), Nrityachandam (eastern dance) and so many more including entrepreneurship club. Student life is vibrant and ever holistic.

Faculty

Only two semester exams twice a year conducted by Calcutta University. Most can clear. Only 10 percent might fail. Course curriculum is relevant as per new education policy. . However it can be further improved upon. CU has its own policies difficult to understand.

Admission Process of the college

I applied in Sister Nivedita University, Seth Anandaram Jaipuria, Muralidhar Girls College, South Calcutta Girls College and Bijoy Krishna Girls College, however I chose Shri Shikshayatan because it's located near Rabindra Sadan Metro Station which is located in a very strategic location easily accessible from all points. In terms of infrastructure too Shri Shikshayatan beats other colleges. Sister Nivedita University has a great campus but the college timings are too rigorous and its more expensive hence I choose Shri Shikshayatan. The admission process is simple and straightforward. The college portal releases forms. One has to create an account, log in and apply for the same. Merit lists are announced on the basis of marks obtained in 12th in due course of time.

Night Life

There is a cafeteria and a gym. The college closes off at 7.30 pm. There is no hostel. Campus is the same campus as that of the school. Hence the campus premises are only available once the school students file out that is after 3 pm. Famous hangout places inside college are Activity Room, Yoga Room, Common Room (includes gym) and the college grounds like temple dias and karate shed available after 3 pm. Basketball court as well. Outside campus students hang out in kathleen, emami market, riddhi siddhi, ac market, forum mall.

When canteen closed, the city opened up.

Likes

The infrastructure is pretty decent with clean and air-conditioned classrooms. The overall campus is also clean and felt very safe.
One of the things that i liked is the discipline. The environment is very strict, structured and safe which is ideal for a good learning experience.
The location is super convenient - being located in the central Kolkata made it easy to and from college.

Dislikes

Campus life overall was dull. There weren't any fests which felt monotonous after a point.

Admission:

I had applied for quite a number of colleges including Lady Brabourne, Scottish Chruch, Maulana Azad etc. I was accepted to MAC as well as lady brabourne. I rejected MAC because according to people it wasnt a good college however for Lady braboune just before their acceptance, I had already paid ssc the admission fees and couldnt back out.

Admission:

I had applied to a few other reputed colleges for journalism and Mass communication including loreto college, St Xaviers University and Amity University. I got shortlisted for Loreto and Amity but couldn't make it to Xavier's and Amity for their cutoff was high and my English marks missed just by 3%. The admission process was smooth and entirely online for the BA in journalism and Mass communication the college doesn't require an entrance test admission is married based and eligibility being 50% aggregate in 10 test 2 and at least 45% in English the cut of typically how was around 80-25% for the general category. Documents are verified after provisional selection and fees of paid through demand draft or online overall the process for student friendly and the college was from with updates and responses.

A Mixed Bag: My College Experience

Likes

The college offers a range of extracurricular activities, which is a plus. There are organisations like LTS and NSS linked with this college

Dislikes

The administrative office could be more cooperative and supportive responding promptly to student's queries and concern.
While the infrastructure and availability of the books in the library are fine but more than half of the books are library copy

Admission:

I applied to several colleges, including ashutosh, Jadavpur university, Presidency, Maulana Azad, and Gokhale Memorials Girl's college. After receiving selection offers from Ashutosh, Gokhale, Maulana Azad and Shikshayatan, I weighed my options. Maulana Azad was rules out due to its distance from my home. Gokhale was eliminated as it did not offer sociology. Ultimately I chose Shri Shikshayatan over Ashutosh

This college is one of the best girls college across Kolkata, I have applied for 3 more colleges where I got a confirmed admission but this college provides us with a lot of extra curricular activities like business event, seminars which would help us to boost our knowledge in our course. The admission process of the college is very easy only we have to fill out the online admission form and after getting our name listed we have to pay the admission fee.

The classrooms are air conditioned and well maintained [11/02, 10:51/pm] Tanisha Shah: The faculty members are supportive and friendly

Dislikes

The washrooms are usually dirty and have no jet sprays
The college students are restricted to access the ground and swimming pool

Admission:

It is one of the renowned colleges in Kolkata especially for ba sociology hons which made me choose this college for my undergraduation. The admission process is smooth and entirely based on merit and there is no GD/PI rounds.

The campus is quite eco friendly, surrounded by nature.
Labs are well equipped and well air conditioned
The infrastructure is good, the best thing is the air conditioned rooms.

Dislikes

Canteen service is not up to the mark, requires maintenance.
College doesn't have its own group or swimming pool , all those are School's property
Washrooms are not cleaned properly, no jet sprays

Admission:

The choose this college because it is quite a renowned one in Kolkata , especially in terms of English honours. I applied and I got a chance here, thus I didn't think of any other college as a backup or anything.

Likes

The availability of many computers and other equipments required by the students in lab is another good thing about the college.
The beautiful flowering plants make the campus look very nice and photogenic space for the students. It's aesthetics is the one that the students most appreciate of it.
The infrastructure is good, the best thing is we get the air conditioned rooms as it gets impossible in summers of Kolkata to attend classes.The campus is quite eco friendly as it is surrounded by nature, there are lots of flowering plants and trees.

Dislikes

There College doesn't have its own ground or swimming pool, all those areas belong to the school. The school's property is portrayed as if it's the college that owns it.
The canteen service is not up to the mark. After placing order we get the food almost when the recess is over. The washroom is another problematic place. Poor infrastructure and low maintenance of the washroom.
There are no jet sprays and most of the time the washroom is kept dirty. Lack of maintenance and cleanliness of the washroom is a major fault of the college.

Unfortunately, SSC Kolkata doesn’t offer online course to the students, however, as per UGC guidelines, you can pursue 2 courses at the same time while the other one should be in open mode.
