Review on Handique girls' college, Guwahati

Likes

The professors of our department are quite friendly.
Co- curricular activities are given full support.
The environment of the college is very good.

Dislikes

Rooms are quite small according to class size.
Washrooms are dirty and not in a condition to use.
Space is less in the college and we don't get proper space to sit during breaks.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course is good but i feel some things are unnecessary. And it could have been more interesting if some good literature novels were included. I think the university can look again at the course which will be beneficial.

Likes

The faculties of the English department are excellent. Especially Shrutimala mam and Tashrina mam. They have the ability to keep the whole class into their attention for the entire period.
The college location is very convenient plus Dighalipukhuri park is an extra bonus for the bonus.
The college canteen serve decent food for the price you pay.

Dislikes

College common bathroom needs daily cleaning. Also no running water as well.
The college infrastructure is not upto the mark. Need furnishing here snd there.
The classes for the general subject are very congested.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The content mentioned in the course is aligned with the real-world application if you are interested in the teaching profession. Also, the exams could be quite a pressure because the evaluations done by certain teachers are not generous I feel. The course curriculum is completed on time. So in that case it gets demotivating.

Handique girls college - know before enrolling

Likes

The college has a basketball court. The canteen and library is good. There are 2 floors of library and two canteens.It is a girls college
College fest is held every year. Classes are conducted properly.classes like taekondo and variety ofcourses are conducted

Dislikes

Not enough competitions or activities.Infrastructure isn't that great, buildings are old , some fans don't work.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The English honours under guwahati university covers English literature around the world in the 6 semesters. the first 4 semesters and in the first to semesters there is EVs and in the 3 Rd and 4th there is skill enchantment paper. Each semester is of 6 months but the semesters end quickly with only 2-3 months of classes.

The professors are quite active and helpful. They help the students in every way possible whether its regarding the academics or any personal problems
The classes are conducted on a regular basis and the professors and principal keeps the good records of the attendance so that the students never miss out any classes
Seminars and other activities are held quiet often so that the students are able to get a hint of everything and so that it gets easier for us to prepare and plan for what to do next after our graduation and which course to select after graduation

Dislikes

Their is no proper place for holding functions and programs since the compound inside the college is quite small
The toilet facilities needs to be improved since its a all girls college and as girls at times we face many problems because of which it gets difficult for us since the toilet is far
The girls common room is quiet small and therefore during free time sometimes the common room gets full and there is left with no space

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course that I have selected is English. Since it is a literature subject at first it was difficult for me to understand but after attending my classes regularly and after the help of my teachers it became quiet easy for me. The college also use to held sessional exams which helps us in improving ourselves and knowing where our mistakes are. And the finals are also held in a very proper way under the strict observation of our professors and overall it helps us in performing better

Viva la Handique Girl's College

Likes

Independence: The independence in the college campus was marvelous. The way we could roam around in every corner of the campus is just fantastic. Had a great time learning and developing as an individual there.
Support and Guidance: We were divided into groups of mentorship under each student for any life related support. Wheather it's our personal life choices or professional life tensions, we got a mentor for every aspects of life.
Transparent Teacher: The relationship I shared with my teachers were amazing. We could be total transparent with them for any study/non-study related queries.

Dislikes

Oh as all students, 75% attendance. Even if it was not that to achieve but as a student we've got out troubles when it comes to attending early morning classes.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I'm really grateful for studying under the Assam Govt.s decided course curriculum. As I've compared my studies with other universities, I could tell how much more I've learnt in all those years. We've started off from 16th century literature till 20th century modern writings. Not only that, we've also got to choose our own country and specific literature in the 2nd year. Which really made me happy as I always wanted to study American literature. So it was pretty much of great experience.

Never ending ups and downs

Likes

I like the environment of the college. I like the way teachers and students co-operate with each other and the environment is peacefull.
I really appreciate this college and I love my department the way they teach us so professionally, love it .
And the student union are also so friendly. They help us with everything, I love the way they conduct programs .

Dislikes

Our college campus is Little small from different colleges and need to be clean.

Well actually I was not ready to do BA in English but my family suggest me to do that because I got better marks in English so that's why but I know that 12 standard English and graduation English is totally different from each other but still I took English as a major subject in graduation but my surprise I really didn't thought that I could coupe with this subject and this subject really helped me a lot ..

The open space, which allows us to play around and enjoy the nature specially in winters
The library is the most cool and peaceful room in our college
Our college is situated at the most perfect location, its located in the heart of then city of Guwahati on the western banks of the historically famous Dhighali Pukhuri .The serene atmosphere with calm, green surroundings.

Dislikes

Lack of Ac rooms, it's very difficult in summer's to survive the heat and there are less number of fans and the fans also doesn't work properly
Lack of spacious and clean rooms, installation of more rooms are required
There is only one small common room for students which is very difficult to keep up with. Requirement of atleast 2 spacious common rooms

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course as I was interested in studying more about literature and the history of it. There are 74 seats in our course and the teaching method of the teachers are good except some. The term exams are held after 2 months of starting the classes

Likes

I liked the environment of the college and some of the teachers.

Dislikes

I don't like the colour of the uniform as white colour garments are not very preferable for girls.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is good and the faculty members are also very kind and helpful sometimes. As I chosed the English department the total number of students are 74. The faculty members taughts us really well .

Remarks:

It's good, teachers are good. It's one of the top colleges in Assam. Friendly environment. The classrooms are big. Canteen was good as well.There were huge trees. Library was also good. Many facilities etc.
