Ques. Does HGC Offers Training And Placement Cells for its Students?

Ans. The HGC has a Career Guidance, Training and Placement Cell, which has established a network with several recruitment agencies for offering placement opportunities to the final year and the passed out students through campus interviews. The College facilitates student participation in Job Fairs, in which a sizable number of national and multinational companies recruit our students. The Placement Cell regularly organises various programs for enhancing the employability skills of the students through workshops, personality development camps, IT skill development training, etc. The HGC also conducts training programmes for students on “how to face interviews” to increase aspects of personality development and communicative skills so that they can confront any challenge in the corporate world.

Ques. What is ICGC offered by HGC?

Ans. The Career Guidance and Placement Cell, formerly known as 'The Information and Career Guidance Cell (ICGC)´, was established in December 2000 in HGC. The cell was established under the guidance of the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), which took the initiative of establishing such a cell in all educational institutions in the state to provide information about various self-employment opportunities for the students and youth, and also provide mentoring and guidance to help them in undertaking entrepreneurial activities. The Cell was later renamed as the Career Guidance and Placement Cell. They provide Key services like personalised career counselling sessions for students to explore various career paths, Expert talks and seminars on higher education and career options. They also provide Workshops on resume writing, interview techniques and soft skill development, Aptitude tests and mock interviews to prepare students for the recruitment process, as well as Training on communication, leadership and critical thinking skills.

Ques. What Activities of the Career Guidance and Placement Cell are taken up in HGC?

Ans. There are many Activities of the Career Guidance and Placement Cell that are taken up in HGC, as mentioned below.

1. State Innovative and Transformation Aayog (SITA), Govt. of Assam, presented a workshop on “Creating Awareness on Career Planning and Development”. Conducted by K. C. Das Commerce College and organised by Career Guidance and Placement Cell, HGC on 18th November 2023.

2. JOB FAIR, Connecting Dreams, One Opportunity at a Time. The job was held on 17th February 2024 at Students' Day Home, with CII Model Career Centre in collaboration with HGC Teachers’ Unit and Career Guidance and Placement Cell, IQAC HGC. Participating industries were Logistics, E- E-Commerce, Warehouse, BPO, Automobiles, Retail, Manufacturing, and NBFC Banking. Four students of HGC got the job of HR Management Trainee.

3. Board of Practical Training (Eastern Region) under the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of India, in association with Career Guidance and Placement Cell and IQAC, HGC organised a Job Mela on 28th February 2024. There was a walk-in interview where several renowned companies participated.

Placement Experience:

Campus Placements are available for only Computer Science Students as per my knowledge. Students from the 5th semester become eligible to seat in for the interviews and rounds. Companies like Wipro and cognizant visit every year. I m still in my second year so I do not know about the average package that is offered, but I heard it's quite nice. I m planning to seat for the placements too.
