Three Myths Busted
  • Myth: NEET UG is compulsory for B.Sc Biology.
  • Fact: NEET UG is not the standard admission test for B.Sc Biology. CUET UG, university/institute tests and merit routes are commonly used.
  • Myth: Every B.Sc Biology course is exactly 3 years.
  • Fact: Three years remains common, while some universities now provide a four-year Honours/Honours with Research structure.
  • Myth: A B.Sc Biology degree alone directly makes a graduate a research scientist.
  • Fact: Entry-level laboratory and research-support jobs are possible, but independent scientist/research careers generally require M.Sc and often PhD qualifications.

Ques. Is PCB compulsory for B.Sc Biology?

Ans. Biology is normally essential. Many institutions require Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, while some accept other Class 12 Science combinations that include Biology or Biotechnology.

Ques. Can a PCM student apply for B.Sc Biology?

Ans. A student with only Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics may not meet the Biology requirement at many colleges. Students with PCMB are generally better positioned, subject to individual university rules.

Ques. Is NEET UG required for B.Sc Biology admission?

Ans. No. NEET UG is not the standard admission examination for B.Sc Biology. CUET UG, university/institute entrance tests and Class 12 merit are the major routes.

Ques. Is CUET UG compulsory for B.Sc Biology?

Ans. No. CUET UG is compulsory only when the selected university/programme uses it. Other institutions may conduct their own test or admit students on merit.

Ques. What CUET UG score is required for B.Sc Biology?

Ans. There is no single safe CUET score. Required scores change by university, programme, subject combination, category, number of applicants and admission round. Students should compare their score with the current programme-specific cut-offs rather than a national number.

Ques. Which entrance exams are important for B.Sc Biology in 2026?

Ans. Major routes include CUET UG, the University of Lucknow UG admission/entrance process, JAIN Entrance Test, and CHRIST's prescribed selection process for applicable biology-related programmes.

Ques. Which is better for biotechnology careers: B.Sc Biology or B.Sc Biotechnology?

Ans. B.Sc Biotechnology is more specialised toward molecular techniques, genetics, bioprocessing and industrial biotechnology. B.Sc Biology provides a broader biological foundation and allows specialisation later through M.Sc programmes.

Types of Admission Routes in India

1. National-Level Entrance Examination

  • CUET UG is the major national route.
  • Participating universities use CUET scores followed by their own registration, preference and counselling/allotment process.

2. University-Level Entrance Examination

  • Universities such as the University of Lucknow conduct their own UG entrance/admission process for B.Sc Biology and related programmes.

3. Institute-Level Entrance/Test

  • Universities such as JAIN use JET, while CHRIST uses its prescribed selection process for applicable science programmes.

4. Merit-Based Admission

  • Some colleges admit eligible students based primarily on Class 12 marks and institution-specific merit lists.
  • Eligibility percentages and subject combinations differ.

5. Counselling-Based Admission

  • CUET-accepting and university-level admission systems may require programme registration, preference filling, cut-off/rank processing, seat allotment and fee payment after the entrance result.

BSc Biology Admission Process

  • Qualifying Examination: Class 12 or equivalent from a recognised board.
  • Academic Background: Biology with Science subjects is generally required; PCB or PCMB combinations are commonly accepted.
  • Minimum Marks: Commonly around 40%–50%+, but the exact requirement varies by institution and category.
  • Entrance Route: Register for CUET UG, university entrance examinations or institute-specific tests where required.
  • Result: Download the entrance scorecard/rank and verify programme-specific eligibility.
  • Application/Counselling: Register separately with the university where required and fill programme/college preferences.
  • Seat Allotment: Seats are allotted according to entrance score, merit, preferences, category and availability.
  • Document Verification: Class 10 and 12 certificates, marksheets, ID proof, photographs, entrance documents and applicable category/domicile certificates.
  • Seat Confirmation: Pay the admission/course fee within the notified deadline.
  • Merit Route: Where an institution officially uses Class 12 merit, candidates proceed through its merit list and document-verification process without a separate national entrance test.

Fees and Financial Aid

I was a student of Allahabad University and I can clearly say that it is not a platform to start your further studies after 12th because it doesn't provide exposure neither placements and the environment here is not suitable for any student to study or live in... However since I got my admissions through the government exams my fees was much affordable it wad only 1200 or 1500 rs for a year ....But even though the fees was less they didn't provided hostels or accommodations to be precise....

Faculty

The faculty was nearly awful...The professors never taught our syllabus they either taught 12th level or msc level there was noidway ...We never got the idea of actual exam questions and pattern .. Moreover the marking scheme was unbelievable they gave marks according to their moods not on our answers or content..

There's "Rajya", an annual fest conducted every year with exciting games and challenges held. Books are easily available if you have submitted your fees. You take as many books as you want under your name but have to submit back within deadline which is usually a year. That means you can take books for whole year. There are 2-3 smart classrooms with smart board available. There's sports meet held every year. That is the most fun part. Almost all outdoor games are included with several indoor games as well.

Faculty

Faculties are really friendly and helpful. They're quite approachable and helpful when we need them. Monika Ma'am and Parul Ma'am have been the best faculty throughout my college. They are really friendly and helpful. There's mid term and then there's semester exam. They are moderate. Students failing exams is quite less. One in a ten student. Course curriculum is totally based on semester exam and followed by Rajasthan University curriculum.

Typically, the faculty to student ration is around 30 per one teacher along with the assistant. The faculty which I liked the mist was Chemistry department. We were encouraged not just on theoretical study but practical too. The B.Sc Biology course is divided into 6 semesters spread over 3 years with two exams each year. Each semester includes both practical and theoretical exams. The questions are moderate for those who attend the classes daily. The failure rate is quite low. Those student who wants to improve their marks, they can do so by apprearing in the IMPROVEMENT EXAM conducted by the University itself.

Fees and Financial Aid

College is mid with infrastructure No internship assistance and staff support is below average 2800 is per semester fees for b.sc bio group Sc St students and obc students from mp only get some scholarship benefits of around 8000.Forensic course is good but lab work is mid and internship chance are negligible. Here teachers favorism is very common so it's better for to be as close as you can be to a teacher. No in campus trasport facility Classrooms are also very low quality and you will feel almost fainted during summers due to lack of proper fans and all.Only few buildings are in good condition which they use as their advertisement.Overall mid college.Nothing special than just getting your graduation certificate.

Faculty

Faculty to student ratio is very less Faculties are very less approachable until they do some favorism on you VT sir from chemistry is one of the best teachers you will find as he stands for students Rest all facilities are very rude towards students Two mid examination where mid 1 is written and is of 20 marks and mid 2 is assignment and attendance based of 20 marks then end semester is of 60 marks Exam is very easy

• As it is a state government college, so the fees is very nominal than the other colleges. The year wise fees that I paid was 14500 (my subjects are Zoology, Botany and Industrial microbiology) • There is no other extra fees like tuition fees, Library fees, development fees and etc.. just the 14500 (bsc) Students will get benifits if they are sc, obc, or st, around 2000 to 1000 • One of my friend who is sc gets 1500 deduction. • If the student is from Uttar Pradesh then he or she can apply for UP Scholarship, which will be upto 70% of the fees in a year (in my case I get 10500)

Course Curriculum Overview

• I always liked biology therefore I choose this coarse and Industrial microbiology choose because I like biology of microorganisms • the coarse is very well designed for the students it not only includes the aspects of the coarse but also have extra to learn. • There are 2 exams In 6 months, 1 is midterm and second is semester examination.

The course curriculum is relevent towards competitive exams. Some of my course contents prepares us for real life applications like herbal plants, medicine, kit during survival. smart boards, real life sample, 3D objects should be implemented in classrooms. The exam difficulty level is quite good but the frequency and timing of the exam during 2nd year is too much worse for the students.

Faculty

Our faculty members are good and helpful towards students. Teachers from chemistry department are very helpful. The Level of the internal and external exam is quite good. Approximately 5-8 students fail in 1-2 subjects. The course curriculum is relevent towards competitive exams and real life application.

Ques. Which of these is better in IIT Kanpur: BSC in Chemistry/Physics, Earth Science, Biological Science or Engineering?

● Top Answer By Vidhita Kapoor on 24 Apr 23

Ans. It depends on what you are interested in and what career you want to pursue. My personal suggestion would be to make IIT Delhi your first preference. First, if you are a civil services aspirant, get admission into IIT Delhi in any branch and prepare for UPSC through the various coaching institutes available. If you are somehow not able to make it into IIT Delhi, then invest another year preparing for JEE and aim for a higher rank. Once you are able to make it into IIT Kanpur, again you need to work hard for one year to get a branch change into Civil. You will be competing with geniuses from CS and ME but keep yourself motivated. A CPI of 7+ will make it possible to get a branch change. Attend your classes regularly, complete your assignments on time and you are good to go. Lastly, if you are unable to change your branch, go for pure sciences like Physics, Chemistry, BSBE, or Earth Science. Out of these Physics and chemistry have a heavy workload and it will be tough to cope with your batchmates. BSBE has pathetic placements. Another option is Earth Sciences which in my opinion is the best considering the light workload and job opportunities. The average CPI is lesser than other branches and most of its courses overlap with Civil Engineering. Basically, Earth Sciences is equivalent to Civil Engineering just without the Engineering element.Read more

Ans. You can apply for the Bachelor's Degree Programme (BDP) at IGNOU which includes the BSc programme. One such course is LSE or Life Science. You need to select elective courses in Life Science first. IGNOU has a credit-based grading system. This requires you to complete 32 credits in a single academic year. This totals 96 credits in 3 years. For the first year 16 credits will be from foundation courses. Other credits will be from your elective courses. For a major degree you need to have 48 credits from the subject you wish to major in. In the 3rd year it’s decided whether you have a BSc (zoo) or BSc (bot). This depends on the choice of your subjects. BSc in Biology also required lab courses. These constitute about 25% of your marks and attendance is compulsory. Take a second elective from the rest (maths, physics, chemistry) such that it carries at least 8 credits. If you are still having difficulty understanding the credits visit the university’s official website.Read more
